  • Way to post something that you do Not know a thing about dude. Your just promoting a stereotypical image of natives. This sets back a lot of work people do to erase that image Hollywood created. And just because you have powwow footage does NOT make this a "rain dance"!

  • i learned this dance in prison along with the rest of my native heritage...it's origins can be traced back at least 6 months and can be used to bilk whitey of more money

  • all action is known by the great spirit un to which we adress our work and in so doing so we given honour in action to the ancensters . thank you for your splnded work and truth. thou art strange

  • @TheOBERONSTAR You are most welcome and thanks!

  • LOL !! YOU HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO??

  • I am very happy to see the vidoe Rain Dance after you give this

  • Nice Video Rain Dance That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You

  • I Really Like The Video Rain Dance From Your

  • Your Video Rain Dance Is Very Useful Sharing

  • parca e la mine de anu nou! lol

  • ... i don't think these are rain dances... just sayin..

  • @koolaidman555 theyre not ('cept for the one at the beginning and at the end, not traditional rain dance but there is rain and there is a dance in each of them)

  • @rustedtractor Nice job on that reply btw :D

  • the best way to learn is to ask elders, not to insult the native people. by posting this video you spur on the ignorance of the wanna be's. like the "pay as you go" sweat lodges that injure and kill people. if you want to learn about your heritage you must seek out the true elders, approach them with respect, and ask them to teach you in the old ways. a small gift of tobacco goes a long way in getting a true elder to open up to you.

  • Thank you for sharing your insight standnbear. I wish to reiterate that I have posted this video with no mean or blatant insult intended to native people. I would amend the above statement to say that the best way to learn about heritage is to ask elders (all the while possessing an open mind and heart). That's the true spirit in which it was made- too often people have misconstrued the idea as being gullible. I disagree with them. Thank you for your advice and i will follow it with respect.

  • @standnbear mi padre era comanche me gustaria conocer mas de ustedes el me enseno muchas cosas pero me falta convivir mas con los que yo considero mi familia y mi raza yo respeto y admiro todo lo que concierne a ustedes gracias.

  • @standnbear were can you find and elder because im bout 70%native American and i want to learn more about my heritage

  • That is so true! I am a part of the Lakota Sioux nation.

  • really love it,thanks

  • You know, thank YOU. Really. Because you and others like you embody the true spirit of what it is to be "thankful". For most, that is a step in the right direction, for you and myself and others too it is daily practice. Starts with compassion i think.

    Thank you again :-)

  • I'm Native American, well part anyways, and yet I feel so close to my people. I found out I was Native when I was twelve :) Well, at least I figured the reason why I loved to study about my native ancestors.

    Thank You.

  • never judge people who are just always accept culture social people share experience world none wrong . show be respect their culture be happy not matter what where come from just human is human that it

  • Who dose the music because I like it very much and I am glad to have some Cherokee in me

  • White man culture be warned your fake movies with rain dance an fake powwow is not nice im of the Cherokee a true rain dancing Indian an its people like you that make our people look bad white man times soon to come when we will return to our land

  • @Chris231MCF Hey, thats fine with me. I never professed that european settlers with the cross and Sunday School were ever a better way over dancing, sweet, take-you-to-another-realm dancing. Thats right, the Great Father wanted to rid ALL tribes of (this) important heritage, around 1920, At least until it was understood that these age-old ways did not pose a threat to either the great father or his peoples usurpation and total dominance (Read: degredation) of the land.

  • @rustedtractor In my opinion religion is wrong, believe in wat you want, if i want to believe in the great spirit i can, if i want to believe in seye wailo i can. But u wite eye wish u can convert everyone, little do u know that all gods are similar in some way, but u are so ignorant that u think your "great father" wanted to rid us of tradition, that sounds a bit more like the devils words to me. If u really beieve in god than u would relize that wat u just said was completely wrong..apologize.

  • @Manny11596 well not wrong but but more pointless, just believe in wat u want is my point

  • @Manny11596 it's not out of ignorance that i derive my beliefs, rather its out of history books...read "The Last Stand: Custer, Sitting Bull and The Battle Of The Little Bighorn by Nathaniel Philbrick. Great book-you can see that President Grant, the "Great Father" decided to wage war on the Indians, who had promises from the whites that the Black Hills would remain in Indian hands (were it not for gold being discovered). Sounds like Mammon (money=devil) to me. Dont shoot the messenger :-(

  • @rustedtractor i thought u meant god, im sorry, theres just so much confusion and racsim at school, they say they joke but its still racist. so i should be apologizeing, so sorry.

  • @Manny11596 sokay, these are confusing and angering times...peace bro :-)

  • @Manny11596 apologize for what exactly?

  • @Manny11596 Way to go Manny! I hate the fact that as a child, I had Religion Forced upon me just as The native American's had, Of which I am also a part of The Apache Nation. I hate that it was thought by All to be ok to invade an indigienus Culture as The Indians (Yes I said that some people just won't understand) And force them to wear Clothes, Change beliefs, and Be Chastized for trying to be Original And Punished for not Complying But look at the church Now

  • @Chris231MCF Hi, do you know if the rain dance of the indian and the africans and other aboriginal/tribal people are the same? Is it possible that there is on core way to do it? Or are there different ways and all effective?

Anyway, I do not think all "white men" are to be blamed, Sir. They (an basically every other race) know not what the do. Choose love (as your people have always known how). The time is almost here, and it is our Love which will heal OUR land. The earth is not dead my friend

  • Such a beautiful culture

  • time is short, white man

  • Another less-than-half-breed here. & sick of "pure bloods" holding it against me & telling me the "five civilized tribes" are the "nig@@rs" of Native Americans because they "sold out." EFF YOU! EFF YOU ALL!!!!!! That's ALMOST the most offensive racism I've ever been subjected to! ALMOST, but not quite.

Thank you, @rustedtractor for TRYING at least. If you can't offer constructive criticism, if you have to be mean, just spare us...

  • @AlterDimensions (Part 2 of my post) / NOT to rustedtractor but to the harsh critics...

...It is you who makes a bad impression for assuming anyone on youtube is claiming to know anything about ANYTHING simply for posting a video! Hello! It's YOUTUBE! Have you browsed it lately? It's the video version of facebook! It's the new blog! Some people post every random thought they have on their feed, so spare me your hate, I didn't get here by searching for "hate" now did I?

  • thanx for the info

  • Proud to be....Cherokee ;)

  • I like your music and your video not matter what others may say. It has a feeling of falling rain and I can dance to it. Thank you.

  • i am cherokee i am pround to be

  • Some comments here are mean and hateful, when you intend no disrespect at all. But your film is culturally confused, and many people resent seeing their cultures misrepresented and distorted. Most of your film features generic Powwow footage that has nothing to do with a rain dance. Nor do the vintage photos. Also, Powwows are not tribal ceremonial rituals. They're social dances. You should attend some and learn more about them. But your film features some nice editing.

  • @CSFLY77 the film represents who I am. Culturally confused and resented by those who perceive me to be not even a half breed, even worse, an ignorant white man. But what i am is an artist, and i take the risk of ridicule, or more important to myself, redemption. No, affirmation. Affirmation that who i am is a person who has lived half of his life wholly ignorant of his Native American heritage, and who doesn't want to spend the other half in the dark about it. Because he doesn't have to anymore.

  • @rustedtractor you're not the only one. I wish I knew ALL of what makes me but my family knows SO little. I just stopped trying to figure out because I've heard so many different things but not enough about each to actually be proud of. =/

  • @rustedtractor maybe put what the film represents in the discription area. I'm a half breed trying to learn about my culture too. It is a bit misleading and I was a bit angry until I read this comment.

  • @rustedtractor I did not learn my heritage until I was a grown woman and elders in our family began to die. People will say at the end of their lives what they've hidden all of their lives so that they might live amongst the Whites and own property and be represented in courts. Even when it's no longer necessary, it's hard to bare the truth. I'm a card carrying Indian now, and I'm proud of it. I'm half from 3 different grands. It's not the rez, but the Blood/Heart that makes you Indian.

  • im so proud to be a native american <3

  • Look at the bird!

  • what is that ha funny

  • sst

  • and traditional dancers...you just filmed a powwow.

  • @SexyPianist89 Is that what that is? Hey thanks for the insight, I appreciate it :-)

  • and fancy shawl dancers!!!!

  • Those are jingle dress dancers!!! You are ignorant!!!

  • ok you need to watch while playing a hardcore song's breakdown, its like the indians are throwing down

  • OK, I'm doing a project and I have a couple questions regarding this video (just for clarification so i don't get anything wrong):

    1) is the way they're dresses and the colours of their costumes traditional?

    2) the image in the window is slightly blurred, so i couldn't really tell, but the person dancing looked like they were on stilts. were they, or was it just the way the image was distorted? (I'm doing a sculpture for art, and it would be really embarrassing to get that stuff wrong).

  • @ranabanana123

    1) no

    2) no

    hope this helps :)

  • @rustedtractor it is traditional and no they arent on stilts

  • @narutosgirl0328 It is not a traditional "rain" dance and i stated before they are not on stilts. Thanks for your post, much appreciated!

  • YES RAINNNNN DANNNCEEE

  • A: It's already raining.

B: Why aren't you in the kitchen

  • That's the spirit! I recall many snowy winters in the "snow belt" area of upstate NY so i can relate.

  • Thanks for posting this video. I really don't want to go to school tomorrow, and it's below freezing where I am, so I figure if i learn how to do a rain dance it will make it snow and I can get out. Thanks again!

  • Excellent! :)

  • indian's they will rise 1 day better be cearful i keep having dreams about it and i am on there side i am red 100% inside and out and this time youall not getting turkey so can eat and kill ....

  • damn dude you Native Americans get crunk

  • jingle, fancy shawl, grass...whatever you do and you may call it, just listen to the music and dance!

  • Just to let you know, none of these clips from powwows are anything remotely related to a "rain dance"...

  • towi co

  • Beautiful video.

  • Beautiful

  • love the vid if anyone knows were to get free cherokee and choctaw music let me know

  • This look totally awesome! My school is having a College Day and we're going to dress up as Seminoles (becuase the mascot of Florida State is a Seminole) and preform a rain dance. Woohooo!!!!

  • Hou!

Is it not better for all of us that we not succumb to greed?

  • はい、そうです。

  • @rustedtractor houe my name is cheyenne im part cheyenne haha i know that sounds weired but im half native american and i enjoy that some ppl r trying to keep the native american spirit alive

  • Well it was bad that white ppl killed native american kind =(

  • Bad you say, they nearly wipped out the Cherokee Nation. Serveral only survived by hiding in the caves in the mountains of Cherokee North Carolina.

  • There isn't any - not here anyway, its an abstract artistic concept of a dream based on a sequence that more conjures up the Serengheti than the Great Plains.

  • where is the traditional music related to the dance?

  • Your point about the content of this video versus title is well taken, a good point it is. Two things i never intended to do, however, were a) to perpetuate ignorance in any form and b) to give the impression that any race would be the salvation of Native Americans, including 19th Century caucasians who came, saw and conquered. My cherokee heritage is what i am seeking and i embrace the learning that is associated with creative efforts such as this.

Thanks for your comments, i appreciate them.

  • I am a seminole/creek/wiendot. I have to comment on this video to defend the truth. THEIR IS NOT A RAIN DANCE. Only three or four tribes have a rain dance that is actually called a rain dance. To make a video like this and call it a rain dance when you include clips from a pow wow of three different styles of POw Wow dance perpetuates ignorance among people who do not know anything about native american culture. We need to teach truth not " HAU WHITE MAN" culture.

  • That is NOT the truth. The saulteux, cree, assiniboine, nakota, blackfoot and dakota all hold raindances as well as other PLAINS tribes.

  • @7pastorb All forms of dance bring the rain.

  • @7pastorb Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about! I'm Cherokee, I dance women's traditional!

  • @7pastorb there might not be a rain dance, but there certainly is a difference between THEIR, THERE, and THEY'RE. just sayin'.

  • I am cherokee blackfoot and black and live each day of my life as if i am full-blood cherokee i love waking up every day of my life know i am related to these wonderful kind people and i shall let noone tell me other wise.

    Native Pride!

  • I don't believe in mysticism. I'm not one of those people that feel as though Native Americans have some special talent or have the answers to our ecological problems. They are just people like everyone else, but I can appreciate the beauty of the dance and the music is beautiful and I loved soaking it in.

  • Our history is not dilated and false. It evolves with time as with every other culture of people who adapt and survive. Cutlures evolve as time passes by. Those who refuse to develop remain in a state of arrested development while those around them develop and eventually take them over. This is one of the many facts of life whether we like it or not.

  • You are so right! It is each one's duty to make the world a better place for all to live and thrive. It is good to retain the old ways in mind and spirit, but we must advance as humans advance. Live and let live in peace...

  • this is so friggin awesome. :D

  • yea it is i love my heritage hehe my great grandmother taught me this dance when i was 4

  • Moonlight1245, I just want to know does it really make it rain?

  • no it doesnt make it rain when u dance, only 3 tribes have the rain dance.

  • i want to learn a rain dance so bad i cant find anywhere of how to learn

  • lakotas forever

  • arigatou(thanks) for the insight i liked it

  • you bet :)

  • congrats on getting footage of real native americans dancing. you hardly see any nowadays.

  • Thank you, you know that is much closer to the point of this video, and its out of respect too. Respect and learning. I imagine it is mainly for the open minded. Cheers :)

  • Ever go to a pow wow?

  • Im part creek indian and a couple more lol. This is neat. Maybe not a rain dance but it was still worth watching.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :)

  • Cherokee????Muahahahahaha all true indians know thats not a tribe no more whites took that one over. I piss on cherokees too funny moving on!!!!!

  • Thanks for commenting glad you got a kick out of it wow man lucky the next fake tribe you happen upon :D

  • im 100% cherokee(I dont know of a single white ancestor in our family)..we speak our language fluently along with thousands of other cherokee ppl in our community. Just because the CNO decided to enroll people who are 1/4096th doesnt mean none of us are left. We are eastern band, and there are still many Cherokee ppl who live in CNO also. White ppl always claim to be Cherokee. We actually are.

  • Awesome, thank you for posting :)

  • wow!!

i have always wanted to meet you beautiful people.

  • Well I may not be 100% anything, but I'm not going to disown myself just because of it.

  • who said anything about you disowning yourself?

  • obviously you dont hold to the values. Anyone with native American blood is family.

  • Obviously you have no clue what you're talking about and completely misinterpret my words. Noone was suggesting mixed blooded people aren't native...white people who claim to be native knowing damn well they aren't is entirely different. Even then, so long as those white people are respectful of our culture(s) there isn't much of an issue. Unfortunately we find more and more white people who think its ok to enter our circle with their ridiculous voodoo and new age nonsense and claim its native.

  • I get you point on people using Native American spirituality as Magic. And the new age movement makes me laugh because the religions they claim to practice are generally old ones.. I do not want to fight with anyone. I am only part Potawatomi but have taken on all values of my ancestors.

  • there are whites who are native american i would know since they are in my family it goes back to a long line of slavery and the connection between all three and first off voodoo comes from africa

  • really? hmmm...and here i was all this time thinking voodoo was invented in modern day america. No kidding it's from africa genius. My mention of voodoo was a comment directed towards those white "new age" people who claim to have all these ridiculous special powers, they come to our native gatherings, enter our circle, and claim their nonsense is native culture. In old times the penalty for such behavior was death in many nations. People need to think before they act. Their nonsense is a joke.

  • Peacefull reply here ok!

Im white, happen to be born in the new age but was taught for many years by cherokee lady her medicine healing ways. Where would that leave me? Its not just an interest for me, not novelty but way of life for me. I would be ashamed if I ever disrespected the native american people so I hope I never do. I to am offended by "white 'new age' people who think they have ridiculous special powers". Ego is like a disease in them & they miss the magic of whats really there!

  • it is so ironic my great grandma was saying the same thing i hate when they do that also

  • Though I can respect your views on how white people claim they're cherokee. I'm about 10% cherokee but the rest of my is white (british and irish, yay *sarcasm*)

Even though I'm mostly white, I feel as if I cannot consider myself cherokee unless I learn how to reconnect myself to how you people are.

  • Tsa la gi, means Cherokee, and I didn't see a single thing "cherokee" in the whole video.

  • There are many ways to see, my friend. If you looked into my blood, then you would "see" that i am (part) Cherokee.

  • Josey Wales: You have any food here?

Lone Watie: All I have is a piece of hard rock candy. But it's not for eatin'. It's just for lookin' through.

  • osiyo ooh doe

  • cool video but not the rain dance

  • Yeah i figured not....the concept is very abstract, the music i recorded is more like african sounds, all in all it was a lucky venture...thank you for watching i appreciate it :)

    Chris

  • this is the best video ever made!!!!!!rock on!!!

  • thank you for viewing & listening, i appreciate it.

  • u betcha!
