There's an English patch out there for the original King's Field. I beat it once. I used save states, but it was a pretty good game with a fun challenge, despite being fairly short and crude (feels more like a prototype, not as polished)

ummmm... no. this game was from 1994-95, not too long after the playstation launch. at launch, the psx did not have analog support, it was basicly a SNES controller with a differently shaped outer casing. in order to compete with the n64s god-aweful controller, the analog and rumble was added when the duel-shock controller was released, in 1998 (america) ...

Ahh yeah, KF is my favorite game(s) of all time. I started playing them in 2002 and still play them over and over again. I did play and beat kings field 3 (2 in america) and then moved to 2 (1 in america). I beat both of them and then I found a later version called kingsfield the ancient city which is 3 in america and 4 in japan, that was a badass game aswell. Using ps2 graphics! After beating KF:AC I found out that there was the first in japan, I have yet to play the original. :/
Kings Field and Kings Field 2 are the best games I've ever played. It does take a little time to get used to and I started with kf2 and HATED it at first, until I got fire magic, and then after it was pure love. I don't think it is the type of game you can show off at parties because it takes some time to get immersed into the world, but it is well worth checking out. The main projects I have worked on is Last Man Standing Co-op for Doom 3 and Platinum Arts Sandbox, which makes it easy for people to make their own games. I am planning to do a KF like RPG at some point but first things first. Have you played KF2? Its just as good as the first if not better. Too bad kf4 wasn't better, but it wasn't THAT bad. I got kings field 2 in 2000 and i love it. I didnt like it at first just like you but then it ruled when i got to the battlefield right after the first area
you may be interested in the original Wizardry on Apple II. That's what I'm playing now in emulation. I speed up the emulator a little bit, but otherwise I don't cheat.

The elder scroll series blows the kings field games out of the water, but the kings field games are good. Elder scrolls came out before kings field.

Kings Field and Kings Field 2 are the best games I've ever played. If you know how to engage in combat its great
and 360 degree view is awseome which measn u can aim up down left right diagnal etc. you can snipe flying monster with bows and magic
