  • Thank you for the advice I will try the ice packs

  • I have Harrington's rods in my back it has just been over a year since I had the operation and I have had nothin but trouble I'm in constant pain I don't have a social life because I don't feel comfortable being in public I have depression from the operation and I have really bad anxiety since the operation today I have to go for a bone scan and I'm really scared they think I have an infection in my spine

  • hey there. sorry to hear about all your trouble and discomfort since the surgery! I have another friend with rods who was in constant pain and it turned out to be an infection, so they removed the rods and now she is much better. She found relief by lying on ice packs....If they find an infection with you, then you must get treatment some way or the other. Get some emotional counselling if you can too. I hope you feel better. Write me back if you want to let me know how it goes. best, mm

  • hola Marta Yo tambien tengo barras de "Harrington" si quieres podemos cambiar experiencias, hace 38 años que estoy opererado, me he mejorado mucho gracias a ejercicios. Atentamente Jesus

  • who removed your rods? I can't find anyone that is willing to do such a surgery. I have Harrington rods since 1984 and "require revision surgery" whatever that means... very disappointed in the road blocks I've encountered just to see and speak to a doctor without them requiring me to commit to more surgery right away.

  • No offence but the surgery has changes BIG TIME since you had it done. I had it done last august and was walking within errrm 5 days. No excersise can help the fact that you have an abonormal curve in your spine.

Mine was minimaly invasive and they took a rib for the graft. The surgery has come a long way.

  • While I won't argue with the surgery changing (because it has) your situation is not typical. Most patients are still on bed rest for months afterwards and have to wear body casts.

And the excercises can, actually, help with your spine. My spine is an example- I quit dancing and it got drastically worse and I started dancing again (years later) and it's straightened up some. Obviously exercise can't cure it, but strong healthy back muscles can help force your spine back into place.

  • i think you should do your research,

have you HEARD about what the surgery can do?!

    i mean honestly.

    suregery ISNT the only option.

    EXERCISE DOES HELP.

so.. just like.. shut up and know your stuff before you think you can act like you know everything. :]

  • can exercise really help up to a point where the curve doesnt bend much bigger?
