I listened to that album and I really dont think that this is as good as most people are saying. Egde used to creative unlike any guitarist since hendrix it seems the best he can now is mix and match hid old tricks. The band was always about the guitar arrangements for me.

Every few years a music act uses an old Dylan lyrical style and updates it. When done in an imaginative way, it's at least interesting. But this song's prose are trivial, and its music sounds like someone using new production tools to recreate their 1990's "Pop" sound, which wasn't especially creative in the first place. I'm sorry. I want to like U2.  Been listening to them since War. But I find this boring in every way I can imagine. Oh well. My two cents.

I don't really think their sound changed so much, I don't know where people see that. This song seems similar to Vertigo on their last album. Through eras however, their sound has changed, for example, this is nowhere close to say With or Without You or One... This is still the Mainstream U2 era/sound that started with All You Can't Leave Behind. In the 80's overall I think U2 had their best era with the Joshua Tree and Unforgettable Fire and War, etc. Today their stuff is good, but not best

This is a completely different sound for U2. You can never say it is not their sound because many of their albums change in sound and style. I think it is pretty good. The lyrical content is too simple for them, but deffinantly not the music and this is not about making money since they have plenty of that. I think this is an experiment with a different sound and they pulled it off well.

And could somebody please explain to him how you pronouce the word "screaming"? So gone are the days when there was substance to both the delivery and content of his vocals. What next? Sorry, but as U2 singles go I think this is pretty atrocious (and I've never knocked them before - I stuck with them through their previous "experimental stages", I think "Pop" is a fine album. I just think that this song sucks and that's only because they've consistently set the bar so high). I've ordered the album - that would be unthinkable ... hopefully it'll arrive before my date with that cliff. Favourite album? It's a toss up between Achtung Baby and The Unforgettable Fire though they've yet to release a truly bad album (even Rattle & Hum had some great songs on it) though I would say that the last couple of albums have flagged a bit towards the end. R.E.M. proved last year that they could produce a record that's vital from start to finish - will U2 be able to do the same?
