I'm in love with Susan. Who wouldn't be? A voice and an inflection for the ages. Derek? He and Johnny Winter on stage at the same time isn't safe for mortals.
@colemanthesoulman The only problem with that is the physical amount of EPIC onstage would disrupt the Space Time Continum and Michael J. Fox would roll up in a Dolorian wondering when the fuck he is and why we don't have WiFi connections on our eyelids yet.
I saw Santana in London about 3 years ago and he was incredibly disappointing. Pedestrian and plodding compared to how he was the first time I saw him in 73. Once again (Eric Clapton in mind) Derek Trucks is pushing these old timers to new heights: Carlos is so much more on the money in thses clips, and Clapton's recent outings with DT take you right back to when he played with Duane. Derek you are a true inspiration and your new album Already Free is quite wonderful.
@johnmitchel1958 Check out "Midnight in Harlem" at the 2010 Crossroads festival by the Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeschi band (beautiful upload available on youtube). If Derek still leaves you cold, you may just be dead and not know it (but I really hope you like it!)
@jackcame2 I second that. Great rendition. @johnmitchel1958 Watch the Songlines DVD though, I promise Derek will light a fire under your ass and send chills down your spine.
@johnmitchel1958 he is a derivative meaning somebody before him played slide but nothing else, the execution of the sounds the subtleties the vocal quality of what he plays makes him one of the most original players in the history. nobody made guitar sound like that yet.
i would go as far to say he's at least as innovative as hendrix only he wont probably be as big a star cause this music is not as popular in general as it was then
If that isnt Stairway to Heaven then what would you call it?
It is their version of Stairway to Heaven. It sounds like it and has basically the same notes and they were doing tributes to Miles, Dylan, the beatles, and Hendrix via the banner, than why wouldnt this be Stairway?
Duane had a saying, it 1s the notes you dont play that take you there in otherwords don`t fill in, play out from your soul then you`ll be hittin the note!
Ok after some searching.....the medley goes In a Silent Way>>?Son, Father, and Holy Ghost?>>>A Hard Rain Gonna Fall>>>Son, Father, and Holy Ghost. I don't know what version of Son, Father, Holy Ghost......possibly the John Coltrane version.
It is called "A Hard Rain Gonna Fall on the StairWay to Heaven"
If anyone has the rest where they played Pop Goes the weasel and the Star Spangled Banner with pieces of Eleanor Rigby and then part of the Lyrics to "come together" PLEASE POST IT
Oh my fucking GOD!!! This is my ultimate guitar duo......really brings up the notch compared to the Trucks/Clapton Tour. What is this song medley called??
Derek's second song he played on his own set was Get Out Of My Life by Allen Toussaint. Thanks for this video, these shows are amazing. Check out my video also, it doesnt have any audience, etc in it.
derek has so much more soul and feeling than santana. Dont get me wrong, santana stilled played a great show, but his bag of tricks runs out quick. Derek on the other hand speaks to you, and uses different words evertime
But with Carlos its a show... with Derek its just music. I mean, its ridiculously amazing music, the best guitar I've ever heard... but Carlos is more fun to watch. You watch Derek and you say, "Shit... that was amazing.", but you watch Carlos and its not as good but more enjoyable to watch.
derek's solo is amazing on this, seeing them tomorrow in albany and pray they play together like this. You can totally tell carlos is enjoying himself.

@jackcame2 Derek is technically great...but he leaves me cold a lot. I'm not sure what it is. I think because he's
not original-he's derivative.

Superb guitar playing from masters of their craft. I would pay top $ to see them if they come to Orange County. Is Derek still jammin for Allmans...

Sounds a lot like Mellisa mixed with Sam Pi Ti. Never-the-less, it's a cool Santana/Trucks effort. I like it.

derek trucks in my opinion, is the #1 right now. Guy was born to play the guitar.
