I just bought the vocal version on line and made the sax arrangement as close as I could remember how the sax version went that was popular in the '50's.
Thanks for the information. That's very interesting. I just put that in the title because that's what it said on the edition of the music that I bought.
Hi do you have the music notation for this song? What is it called in case I go looking for it in the music store? I am looking for the music to this song. If you don't mind sharing the music.
For the record, Skokiaan is NOT a South African Song, but a Zimbabwean composition. At the time of the composition, Zimbabwe was Southern Rhodesia in the Federation of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland (now Malawi). It was composed by a Mr. August Musarurwa of the Bulawayo Sweet Rhythm Band, which later became the Bulawayo Cold Storage Band.
Give credit where it is due. This is not a South African song but a Zimbabwean song. Of course music being common wealth South Africans adopted it too, so did Louis Armstrong (Satchmo) and many others as the years have gone by.
I remember it from the Fifties. There was a saxophone version that was popular. I have not been able to find the exact recording so I bought sheet music of the vocal version and reconstructed as well as I could remember it.
I have heard this music occasionally in... 1978 and nobody knew about it! I even did not forget the word "Msarurgwa" - it was spelled in russian... Great thanks to You!
