  • LOL, "You only need one system"? Then why do they tell you to buy the Adam module? LOL, and let's not talk about the endless add-ons in this commercial. Could they be anymore transparent?

  • ah shut up !

but hehehe more like sorry colecovision because the videogame crash was like

    BYE BYE COLECOVISION

  • thumbs up if the guy is sad at the end if because his controller broke

  • That is a big ass phone my god

  • The kid playing ColecoVision looks like Bill Lumberg from Office Space.

  • So buy new systems, or buy buy new expansions. I guess the expansions cost less, but still...

  • holy fuck man, i need to get one QUICK!

  • This commercial used to be on tv during the Yankees games on 11Alive Wpix New York

  • @exposed97

    "Petty", genius.

  • Look how freakin HUGE that thing gets when plugged into the ADAM module!

  • If you don't want to buy a single additional system, simply buy 20 additional accessories. Sorry Atari. (who even bought the 5200, anyway?)

  • Damn!! That's Hot!!

  • Yeah, I hate buying new systems. Buying new accessories is much....... easier?

  • wow, in those time probably there were not any terms for the commercials, it was such a hit in its face, I had Atari 2600 but I had always envy COLECO for its great games!!!

  • anybody who still has either of these should keep them as long as possible and let them appreciate in collector value.

  • now coleco, if there had never been a videgame crash then i doubt you'd still have the colecovision today. sorry coleco

  • Darn it. I can't get my Sega CD expansion or my 32X expansion to plug in my Colecovision.

  • @WebVMan lol o_O

  • Still waiting for the expansion module that will let me display the internet on my Colecovision. Have to use this clumsy laptop computer in the meantime.

  • COLECOVISION FOREVER

  • you still need to buy the adam

  • instead of buying new systems....just buy a bunch of add ons and expansion modules for an older system. That's the same thing...wtf.

  • Coleco was bad-ass, man! Then the market crashed... which was all Atari's fault in the first place.

  • The Angry Nerd has an interesting theory about this console...

  • Aww, poor Atari ;(

  • these look like guys that play ps3 now XD

  • AVGN should have went back in time to warn customers how bad the 5200 is. And I LOL'D at the concept of a company that keeps releasing you new concepts. AVGN picked on Sega especially for that.

  • @Agent1W Read my comment, I swear I read this one just a min after... the same opinion

  • @Malasawas Ah yeah. I never seen a 5200 in use, let alone play one. I would have no choice but to go with AVGN there. He would certainly say that the Famicom certainly saved video gaming.

  • @Agent1W AVGN rocks it all! Btw, my first console was Sega Genesis (16 bit only, not Sega CD, nor 32x). My first machine to be used as ''console'' since it was almost only to play games was the Commodore '64, adorable... such a really huge piece, but nice retro feeling in there. Never used ATARI, of course nor Nintendo (non of them).

  • I like retro electronic devices from 80s and 90s

  • I bought an old Colecovision pack off this guy at a yard sale, he had ALL the attachments and 30 games...and by every attachment I do mean every single one. Way ahead of it's time...except in graphics.

  • If 360 announced an attachment to connect to the PS3, they'd be fuckin' sacked.

  • I didn't know!

  • they really didnt care about copyright

  • i wonder that xbox have a ps3 module and it can connect to our pc...

  • Genghis buy complete Coleco Vision system on eBay. Now he can play baseball, drive car and do his taxes all at same time. Genghis like living on the cutting edge of technology.

  • What they don't tell you is that the prick on the left has parents who will spoil him. That shit cost a fortune back then.

  • Yes it's true - with Colecovision you only "need ONE system". Because Colecovision "expands" to give you super-expensive and completely buggy modules and add-ons. Sorry Atari...

  • dude im 14 and its pretty frickin awsome

  • Adorable ad. It slightly reminds me of the Sega Genesis...

"So you're happy with your rad Sega Genesis with blast processing and all the other things that Super Nintendoesn't.You think nothing is better, but add the Sega CD and play digitized movies where you press a button or two to resume! And if that was the best, add the Sega 32x and play tons of awesome 32-bit games! Sorry, Nintendope!"

  • @RkivUnderground Pfft. Nintendo kicked Sega's sorry ass to become a game manufacturer for other systems.

  • @RkivUnderground Like Colecovision, Sega suffered the same fat with too many add-ons and accessories. The 32X was a BIG mistake, but the Sega CD opened the doors for other game companies and publishers. Real CD-based music in some of the games was a big plus. The limited animation was a minus.

  • i had the coleco adam with the atari attachment, it was my first computer lol god i feel old now

  • It's a good commercial; Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo should use this style now.

  • Yeah, "Sorry, Atari!" in their commercials...six months later it was "Sorry, Coleco shareholders. The ADAM is such a turd it's bankrupted the company."

  • This was in late 1983, maybe winter 1984.

  • great upload! i'm an 80s kid and for some reason i don't recall seeing any Colecovison ads.

it's just a shame the Colecovision had nothin' compared to the (vastly superior) Intellivision.

Even today, you'll be hard pressed to find a working CV due to substandard internal parts, but no so with the INTV.

    (/intv fanboyishness)

  • CV's aren't hard to find today, but they are rarer than INTV that's for sure.

  • @DeepSouthDispatch

Omg, pfffft, the ColecoVision had way better hardware than the Intellivision. Way better graphics and sound too. Intellivision was direct competition with the Atari 2600, with simular styled graphics and sound, while the ColecoVision had superior graphics, speed and sound for its time. The ColecoVision was way ahead of it's time. :)

  • Wow, colecovision looks like it was raping atari back in the day.

  • 0:16 Atari let that slide? I'd sue their ass!

  • They didn't think of it. All console companies had offensive commercials to win customers. Like, once you get bitchslapped, you bitchslap'em back!

  • "sorry atari"....thats cute

  • Comment removed

  • yayy, my favorite gameconsole

  • WOW that Colecovision is getting raped from all sides!

  • SUCK IT NINTENDO!

  • Hey, isn't the narrator the same guy from the atari 5200 commercial?? Talk about playing both sides! Thats cold.

  • 0:23 damn, thats alot of CRAP!

  • atari sued everybody

  • any body remeber that game system that was a green screen it had the monitor built in to the system and cam with the game scamble built it to it it was like the voltex or somthing i remember the thing from when i went to summer camp one year some counseler had it and let the kids play it

  • That's the Vectrex. It was actually a B&W vector monitor and the games would include colored overlays. Built in game is Mine Storm. The current homebrew games being released for that system is nothing short of amazing.

I recently put up a short video of my home arcade and you can see my Vectrex running a few minutes in.

  • ok thanks for the info man it was a long time back ther! see i wasnt makeing it up to feel cool ha ha yeah thats it...

  • What if a commercial today had Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and they said, "And now you can play all Playstation 3 games on the XBOX. Sorry Sony."

  • That would be weird for them to say nowadays..cuz as i recall...aren't XBox and Playstation both Sony products? me think so..

  • LOL, no the XBox is not a Sony product. Think again...

If you really don't have any clue at all, look up in the top left corner of your computer screen right now while you're reading this... Got any idea now?

  • I'm looking at the top left of my screen....... so Apple makes the xbox???

  • *g* good one!

seems like you already know who makes the XBox but act clueless deliberately ;)

  • no blatantly xbox is made by Apple

  • Only the 2600 Adaptor and the driving wheel worked. I have the super action base ball controller, and I can't figure out how it's suppose to work, and the ADAM was known for it's technical problems, including erasing your colecovision games if you left them in the console when the computer was activated

  • SORRY ATARI XD

  • "So if you don't want to keep buying new systems........ KEEP BUYING ADD-ONS INSTEAD!"

  • SORRI ATARI!!!

  • OMFG!!! It's one thing if they allowed an Atari module to be released for it, but they actually ANNOUNCED IN THEIR COMMERCIALS THAT IT PLAYED ATARI GAMES!?!?! Were they just TRYING to invite a lawsuit!?!?!?!?! LMAO!!!

Not even lawsuit! That's like Coleco saying, "Oh yeah, our system plays your games! Ya like that, Atari, huh?" That's almost like some guy screwing your wife right in front of you!

  • The lawsuit DID happen, but it was waived on accounts that an atari is made out of too simplistic, and generic parts.

  • Atari did sue,but actually LOST the lawsuit!

  • Coleco was a great system..but so was the Atari 5200, in fact the 5200 had a pause feature, which allowed you to pause during games, and the 5200 had a much better selection of games, but sadly the 5200 had the issues with their joysticks :(

  • Lol reminds me of the wii. You want ONE system that does everything!? Then buy the WII! And its three hundred and seventy five different accessories!

  • Colecovision was the shit. I played the hell out of mine.

  • Colecovision was easily my favorite system of that generation, but it's not hard to outdo the 5200. I've had calculators that were more entertaining.

  • The interesting thing about this ad is that Coleco is saying that Atari keeps trying to sell you new systems but in fact Coleco is selling you the Super Action Controller, the expansion module to play Atari games, the Driving module and then the Adam module to expand into a home computer. Who's selling new systems???

  • Comment removed

  • i hate when they always say bad things

    about other systems

  • I always wanted a Colecovision because it had better graphics and looked and sounded more true to the arcade....BUT....truth be told Atari had the GAMES and lot of them at that. Colecovision's claim to fame was DK, all it's other games were non-popular duds. Atari had Pacman and everything else. At the end of the day I want a machine that has games not adaptors.

  • Well, the Atari home computers had the best version of Donkey Kong from Nintendo that had all 4 levels.

I was not impressed that the Colecovision version had only 3 levels.

As for the ad, the announcer should say, "Sorry ColecoVision".

  • Oh yeah, but the Colecovision version came first. Then, by popular demand, they started to make Donkey Kong for other systems.

Most versions of Donkey Kong skip the factory level partly because it was way too easy, and also in that it was not an important part to the game as a whole.

  • i have the coleco vision and it really cool whit looping

  • sega saturn had intent and a keybrord to

  • Favorited!

  • "so if you don't want to keep buying new systems there's only one system to buy!"

Yeah, with 50 fucking add-ons, each of which costed almost as much as the system itself. Although I must confess, I owned and loved every one of them!

  • i wanted a colecovision badly

  • they should have said the atari 5200's controller broke easily

  • Imagine today if the Xbox360 played PS3 games, or vice versa. It's hilarious when you think about classic consoles actually practicing this sort of thing.

  • I love how the Colecovision dude looks smugly over at the Atari dude and chuckles. Sorry Atari! lol

  • You only need to buy one system....and 15 other expansion add-ons that you will need to play the coolest new games!!! XD What's funny is that I made my parents buy every damn thing there and the roller controller to play Victory and Slither. To this day, one of my greatest unsolved life mysteries is who the hell stole my copy of Slither. I hope I find out when I die so that I can kick their ass in the afterlife!

  • man i like atari 2600 more cuse its better controls

  • Yeah, don't buy a new system, just buy all this overpriced crap that we will never support!! Man, I miss those days.

  • If I'm not mistaken, coleco got away with making the VCS adaptor because it didn't infringe on any Atari patents. Coleco's adaptor was an entirely original engineered unit.

  • they eventually had to settle in court over this one:(

  • What's your source on that?

  • what are you talking about? Coleco got away with their atari expansion because none of the parts in it were patented by Atari. They even made an entire standalone 2600 ripoff called the Gemeni

  • ohhhhh your 18, so you MUST know EVERYTHING.

  • just saying coleco didn't have to pay atari squat. And the Gemeni does exsist

  • "Sorrry Atarri"

    LOL

  • Wow, talk about competitiveness! And people ragg on Apple about their Mac vs. PC ads. Coleco was ruthless on this one! Hey, but whatever it takes to sell.

  • Of course not like us poor bastards that were stuck with atari only, fuck you!!

  • The Coleco Wheel looks awesome

  • I had that coleco steering wheel. Flimsy piece of plastic, and coleco only ended up making a handful of games for it.

  • Hearing the sounds of Turbo in that ad gave me horrible flashbacks.

  • It's a amazing how much you can expand the Adam. I'm typing this on one right now. I'm a hacker.

  • Colecowned

  • Notice how most commercials you watch from back then are 29 or 30 seconds long? That's because TV ads couldn't go over 30 seconds and the entire commercial break couldn't be longer then one minute. From what I recall anyway. Shame it's not like that now

  • What the hell? Look how hard the boy with the 5200 is moving the joystick! No wonder they dont last long!

  • Maybe he just realised it just broke.

  • even though atari isn't making their own consoles anymore, i still see Atari GAMES being released for arcades and PCs

  • 1. at least coleeco vision works

    2. just c64 that is a computer and people made sweet hombrews with it

  • Actually the computer in the commercial is the Adam.

  • ahahaha so u actually can play atari games in colecovision yeah f with the copyrigths

  • Atari actually sued over that expansion moduel, but the courts said that the 2600 could be reproduced with standarad parts and not only could Coleco continue making and selling the moduel, everyone on the block, even a guy in his basement, could make a sell a 2600 clone with out fear of being sued.

  • That's true I think Sears even started making a ripoff of the 2600 console.

  • I think Sears had permission to make the 2600 console.

  • Strange though, the laws must've changed a bit. In the extreme case, you can build any software product using stanard parts (1's and 0's). Most hardware devices that are patented these days could be build using standard capacitors and circuit boards, such as patented washing machines, DVD players etc.. Can't help thinking poor old atari got a bad deal from the courts (without knowing any details about the case).

  • Sorry Atari is funny XDDDD

  • sorry atari hahahahahahahaha..I had both systems, the floppy controllers of the atari 5200 stunk for a lot of games. THe Colecovision won out, i would still have it too, long story on why i don't anymore.

  • The Coleco could use the same controllers you could buy for your C64. I just would interchange them!

  • and 2600, 7800, and Genesis/Megadrive controllers. However if you have a vectrex and notice the identical pin configuration it won't work on anyother console because it's analog

  • Don't forget Sega Master System, I'm pretty sure those work too.

  • let's see the Playstation 3 plug into the Adam module to become a complete computer system! tee hee

  • Here's your choice for the 80s: Colecovision where you can break your thumb using the controller, or the Atari 5200 where the controller easily breaks.

  • I always thought you broke your thumb on the intellivision controller?

  • @DeanoTheLegend87 I used to get some mean callouses on my thumbs playing Intellivision.

  • Lol...slags off Atari yet Atari are still going if barely.

  • Tough choice to make back in the early 1980s...a game system you can expand upon that has clunky stiff knob controllers, or a barely expandable game system that has loose and flaky controllers.

  • i want one

  • i like how they didnt care that they were making a system that played another companies games.

  • sorry Atari... kkkkkkkkk...

  • wow the powerful adam...they just dont put that kinda of horsepower into computers anymore...

  • It's ashame that it didn't work

  • coleco rocks!!!!!!!can still remember my bro buying it for $400 canadian in 1983.them were the days

  • I remember in 1981 when Atari went for the same price. It's too bad Colecovision never expanded and branched out more like Nintendo did. They were kind of the Sega of the early 80's.

  • i think i`ll go play my coleco vision.
