It's kind of stupid that I always here about these late 90's early 2000's pop punk bands on these older bands' videos (Especially NOFX). It seems like everyone wants to hate on the bands I listen to like Blink 182, Sum 41, Simple Plan because they are not really punk. Fans of them know this. We don't think they are punk or care. To me the pop punk genre is just a softer version of punk rock but the bands share a lot of similarities.

I agree with this, and if you look at it, all the quintessential Punk bands had different views on things, Sex Pistols were mega-debaucherous and anti-everything, Ramones weren't very crazy guys and they were poppy and radio-friendly, Black Flag were drinkers and violently anti-corporate, Bad Brains were weed-smokers and heavily religious, Minor Threat were mega-straight edge and mega-anti-racist
