Its fitting to give some of the best flyers in this war some of the best planes in this war. The P-51 Mustang and the Tuskegee Airman are a fitting combination.
@Sidewinder5O4 As a United States Army Officer who lays gladly puts his life on the line everyday, theres no greater confict within me, how do i feel about about my country, and how does my country, feel about me? this has me crying as we speak
@DrHavoc1: They flew anything they were given. And if some of you will forgive my saying so, the P-39 was a bit meh compared with the P-47 and P-51. Although I admit it was probably better than the P-40.
@NobleKorhedron The Russians didn't think so. They received 5000 of these machines threw land lease and used them against the Germans to great effect. The central placement of the engine gave it unusual maneuverability and allowed to mount a heavy 37mm cannon that fired threw the propeller. One shell from that thing took out any German aircraft.
@NobleKorhedron Its very dangerous to not experienced pilots, easy to enter tail spins and hard to get out of. Those planes killed a lot of people in the process of learning.
@NobleKorhedron In a plane with a conventional engine layout, when you stall(lose airspeed to the point of falling, wings can't generate lift without speed), your engine will drag the nose of the plane down, you will gain some speed, and if you were flying high enough, you will be able to recover from the spin. The cobra, however, had its engine placed in the middle of the aircraft, so if you stalled, the plane would spin uncontrollably.Getting out of this required lots of skill.
i was a green card (cizizens with a green card earning their citizenship by serving in the U.S armed forces 3 out 4 yrs of good conduct service will earn ur citizenship) serving in the US Navy as a corpman during the war in Iraq and we were treated with as much disrespect as here. my division was called the united nations division. After I receive my citizenship i became a SAR swimmer bc no one in my ship wanted that job. i saved 2 fishermen from drowing in Bahrain.
wow, flying b-17G's and getting shot to hell. shows just how great and lucky the memphis belle was when they flew the lighter armed F model 25 missions casualty free.
One thing I never understood about this movie was that their fighters didn't sport red tails. That's the symbol of the Tuskegee Airmen in general and the specific markings of the 99th in particular. They had several P-51s that they clearly repainted just for the film, why not splash some red on them?
14 years after the Little Big Horn, the 7th Cavalry was entrapped in a box canyon, and if it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry, there would have been a second massacre of the 7th Cav.
The Buffalo Soldiers, 9th Cavalry was rewarded with Presidential Parade Escort and Guard Duties for accomplishments, furthermore; the 9th Cav. received as many citations as most of the white cavs.
Read the epic novel, "Rescue at Pine Ridge", 5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
Big typographical error at 3:45 in the video. The 22nd BG flying B-26's and later B-24 Liberators was in the P.T.O. in 1943 and 1944.I'm sure they mean the 2nd BG instead which flew B-17's in Italy.
It's infuriating that even when they were out there fighting there were a bunch of Jim Crow assholes back in Washington commissioning bullshit "studies" and other such like things to try to say they couldn't do it.
@fidan2fast It was for both. Hitler felt that the Russians were better off as slaves or dead. and the Jews were better off dead! If Nazi Germany had won WW2 Who knew what they would have done espicially when Hitler was looking for a 1000 year "Master Race". I wish I could say that War was fought over racism, unfortunately I don't think I can nor do I have enough to back it up. Just my two cents. Take it for what it's worth.

If Nazi Germany had won WW2 Who knew what they would have done espicially when Hitler was looking for a 1000 year "Master Race". The Airmen fought this war because like other americans at that time their way of life was in jeporady as well as to prove to white america public they can step to the plate and get the job done. and they did that!
I think the depiction of why losses were heavy are inaccurate here. Escort fighters just didn't have the range to go all of the way and Germans just held off attacking until the bombers were unprotected.

I'm sorry to say this...But being Black I refuse to watch this movie. It's really sad to me how my people were treated...I was in the US Navy for 8 years. I often wondered and even wrote a letter to Senator Patty Murray here in Washington..I asked here why you did you need to have a college degree in order to fly a fighter plane...No one in the Navy could tell me why and ever pilot i spoke to told me "There college degree taught them nothing when it came to flying the plane" Racism Period.
In the Canadian Military as well, every single pilot, whether it's fighter, transport, helicopter, trainer, or anything capable of flying, ALL pilots are required to have a University Degree, before even being accepted to start training.
@MrJournalism101 from haynes1776 I just want you to know that it was wrong the way Americans: black, japanese, native, ect were treated During World war 1 and 2. I cannot blame them for wondering "why fight for a country that treats you like a second class citizen and no body and repays you by lynching you or spit in your face and being hostle? The only way to over come these racist attitudes was by serving their country with honor and courage
@MrJournalism101 from haynes1776: Im sorry, but i just dont share your point of view. Being a black american myself, i was appalled at what happened those days, but I have no feeling of hatred or bitterness towards those who discriminated other americans because of color, race, religion. As jesus says "Love your enemies" "forgive them, for they dont know what they are doing". Think about it.
@RMSTitanic87: Was he real? Or was he just made up for the movie? I know these guys really fought the Germans but was Benny real? Or an amalgam of other black men for movie purposes?

they didnt.
