You're lucky to have caught the Lincolnshire Poacher number station, it mysteriously dropped off of the air shortly after you got this recording (last transmssion was 29 June 2008).
This is probably the introduction to the starting message of the station. Often the intro includes a phrase that characterizes the message that follows, so 73346 could mean that a dummy message follows or that a message of great importance follows. The tune is probably to identify the station, since they usually operate over many frequencies.
Sorry if that's a bit of a buzz-kill, but that recording most likely isn't the actual message if there was even a message being broadcast at that time.
@Dalekrise The other thing I've seen is that these stations will transmit a number and keep transmitting the same number for days or months until it changes. These could be nulls, could be something, it's the nature of one-time pads.
This station is the "Lincolnshire Poacher" numbers station. It is rumored to be maintained by Mi5 and is located at the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyrpus. Your lucky you got this recording as the station went inactive in June 2008. The broadcasts have been taken over be the sister station "Cherry Ripe"
You know, back in the day, one could watch a Youtube video about WWII and not hear something about CoD. You could also watch a video about numbers stations and not hear something about Black Ops. Will you gamers please go back to whacking off to the Sims and leave us who like real life history and world events in peace?
@nyc14gauge Speaking as a gamer, I'd kind of like it if you didn't insult all of us because of a few annoying people. I was interested in WWII history before I ever played any games about it, and believe it or not, not every person who plays games is a pervert or an idiot. Some people are annoying but it doesn't give you the right to generalize, especially with somthing like that dumb insult. And honestly, if you can't ignore some stupidity on the internet, you have a pretty sensitive filter.
@FredericaBimble Some things annoy me, like people blatantly being offensive. How'd you like it if you said you liked jazz music and someone said you wanted to jump Ray Charles bones or something?
I'm a gamer, and that doesn't mean I wack off to the sims. I'd like that to be clear to him.
@blob450 it's an english folk song not a 'childish song' it's put in because they can. it's recognisable that this station is this station-
number stations are thought to be for spy use (they've not been confirmed directly but they are for spies using a one time pad - making sending messages impossible to crack)
@blob450 The song is used as a signal to indicate the beginning and the end of the transmission. So if you are waiting for a message you start to write the numbers after the jingle.
It's the Linconshire Poacher (Named after the folk song of the same name, which is the little tune it keeps repeating in this video). It started broadcasting around 1988, if I remember correctly.
@SirVladDracula No-one knows what they mean. most people think they''re probably a way of sending coided messages to secret agents abroad, but no-ones totally sure...
Whatever the case, they'd be the perfect way of contacting agents. Low-tech, reachable anywhere, impossible to crack, and all they need is a short-wave radio - something which, if owned, raises no suspicion at all.
My own personal guess would be that they're used with sleeper agents.
Receiving a constant, repetitive signal until the message changes; at which point its time to go to work.
That or its all a bluff so they can go about sending the REAL secret messages. x3
Its a hidden transmition that is used in activating sleeper cells, which are government spies who are subconsciously trained to assassinate or commit acts of terrorism. they are completely dormant until a certain word, or in this case a series of numbers, are spoken. Thats my theory!
@howdyd000 theyre actually just encoded messages, you are right about the spies part but not right about the 'subconcious activation' thing. an agent needs to know when to be tuned in and to what frequency to receive the message, of course. look into 'one time pads', generally they are the means of decrypting such messages and due to their truly random nature during generation they are rendered mathematically unbreakable :) you may be very interested in 'The Conet Project'
@fintonomalley Some say that Call of Duty: Black Ops, was designed as an Anti-Government weapon to make aware the public to Numbers Station, and begin a world-wide attempt to decipher their messages, thus bringing the balance of power back to the people.
It may be almost IMPOSSIBLE to break, but; you know what they say about a room full of monkeys with typewriters.
This question may have already appeared in here, so I'm sorry for asking again... What country does this numbers station come from? According to the pronunciation of "four", it sounds either British or Australian...

Lincolnshire Poacher? "Poaching is the illegal taking of wild plants or animals contrary to local and international conservation and wildlife management laws. Violations of hunting laws and regulations are normally punishable by law and, collectively, such violations are known as poaching." WIKIPEDIA. Where do these station/frequencies come from? do they just sit there and repeat the numbers or do they make a tape loop? I guess we will never know. Some others repeat numbers for a long time.

@DanielChristy19 I think its something to do with having someone having a SW radio on and tuning and find tuning and looking for something. Its quite feasable that the messages change depending on circumstances, like dreams. But often you can find the same broadcast in predicable manner. Its perhaps a way to encode information visually so that it produces mental imagry.

@r0llskyay0 Ah I see. I was just making an assumption with some comedic sarcasm thrown in. I really don't know anything about these numbers things, I just came across it and thought it was funny.
@MrGhostbutter They are used to predict future events the same way that the migration of electrons across a diode can be measured. Any ordinary radio can be made to recieve SW there is usually a diode you cut if that is enough read-between-the-lines for you.
I just wonder the goverment of big countries involved into this how they are laughing when they come to internet and see our conspiracy theory :D Imagine that they are doing that only for shit & giggles :P
Thats the Lincolnshire Poacher.

@VoiceofReason06
it doesnt matter how smart you are, a one time pad is not decodable if you do not have the key

@r0llskyay0 Ah I see. I was just making an assumption with some comedic sarcasm thrown in. I really don't know anything about these numbers things, I just came across it and thought it was funny.

what does 73346 mean?
tubemaster2703 1 year ago
@tubemaster2703 From my knoledge. These numbers are randomly generated and put out on a broadcast with a different frequency every time.
MrGhostbutter 1 year ago
@MrGhostbutter Ah, I thought it was some sort of error code.
tubemaster2703 1 year ago
@MrGhostbutter They are used to predict future events the same way that the migration of electrons across a diode can be measured. Any ordinary radio can be made to recieve SW there is usually a diode you cut if that is enough read-between-the-lines for you.
