  • I'm worried now. Your imaginary friends look familiar. I'll bet Bob knows where the green grass grows and how to roll a good joint, and I think I remember waking up to Roberta overseas.

    Chocolate works too.

  • Beer cans and roach clips . . sounds like the only way to survie.

  • You rock!

  • I understand that black things absorb light and heat, but would it work if I try to put fire directly on dry straw or it has to be something black?

  • BODDINGTONS! :D

  • don't do the girl persona man its weird.

  • roach clip LMAO! stay stoney my friends stay stoney

  • why we use these roach clips not because we have marijuana and rolling papers or anything

  • 3:37 HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • hahahhahaha. Last quote is great.

  • these vids r sweet as hell!!!!

  • ur rock man

  • The wund iz coming across the puch at 15 knots and out of my orse at twenty, Ye you remind me of my brother, but well done I enjoyed this!

  • its not arson if its your own stuff. classic!

  • I've seen girls with that much facial hair. Lovely.

  • Actually, it is still arson if it's your own stuff and you're claiming it as a loss to your insurance company...

  • This guy is fucking insane

  • I liked the characters that were in your video, they all looked like you though, with different hair and clothes, but you wouldn't do that would you Mr. Survival Man?

  • this man is so alone...

  • @pippop7798

Nonsense. Look at all those imaginary friends.

  • hahahah this shits funny

  • @ThePeterbilt1979

I'm pleased that some people realise I'm actually trying to be funny.

It bothers me a little when people think this is all serious.

  • can i do this with normal soda can?

  • @jerking01

Sure. As long as it's aluminium (which most soda cans are) it shouldn't bee to difficult to polish it up.

    Give it a try.

Good luck. Let's see some video responses.

  • oh god that was sick, but cool,.

  • @joethegreatish

One of the better compliments I've received for this video.

    Cool(ish) username.

  • Awesome vid. Informative and entertaining. Reminds me of a whacky science show for kids :)

  • @BernieDiPumpa

My humour is a little puerile. Surprisingly, most of the views come from adults.

  • Awesome! I love stuff like this; it definitely saved my bacon a couple of times during my younger, dumber days!

  • @eightyfeettall

Careful, eightyfeettall, you know that bacon nowadays is loaded with growth hormones, right?

  • @ROBwithaB Yecch; it seems like most everything is, unfortunately, at least for much of the US (and beyond)! Fortunately for me, however, I live in the urbanized wilds of Northern California, where we sufficiently crap all over all of that "growth hormone" stuff, which is more or less an option, but not so much a painful one unless you happen to be one of those folks who particularly enjoys your bacon chock full of science-y goodness!

  • Soo is that other guy Bob with an R ?

  • @electronicdawg

    R for Reefer.

  • @IWillEatYourInsanity

Who the %^&* flagged this comment as spam???

  • @ 1:23 I am! W00T!

  • @SpikeitropianP

You forcing me to go watch the video again, just to see what you're talking about.

  • @ROBwithaB rofl

  • HOLY SHIT, THATS NOT A DESCRIPTION, THATS A FUCKING WALL

  • @hawnkblade

    Egads. That's not a comment. That's a loud realisation.

  • 3:37 wow that was funneier than try not to laugh videos

  • @rabbitnonkiller

    Thanks.

I like it when people tell me which bits they find funny.

(Although a lot of those "try not to laugh" videos aren't funny at all.)

  • @Raleighthebeast

Viewcount has now moved off this randomly creepy number.

  • Could you tell me what metals will and won't work when it comes to making a parabolic lighter?? Cheers

  • @Bushphantom

Anything that can be polished to a good shine will work.

Without going into a (very) lengthy discussion about the properties of various metals, you are looking for a metal (or alloy) that is lustrous (ie shiny) relatively soft (making it easy to polish) not too soft (which would cause it to scratch easily, resistant to corrosion with enough strength to hold its parabolic shape.

Silver would probably work best. Aluminium is good. Gold is good. Steel works but is hard work.

  • loloolooloololllolololol

  • How unlucky. I'm the 66,666 Viewer.

  • @chicken001ful

    Probably not. Viewcounts freeze arbitrarily.

Perhaps google has some sort of of dark hidden agenda?

  • @chicken001ful I'm the 77,757 viewer. :3

  • i took more time reading the description then actually seeing the video....

  • @nadolny7

Sometimes the description contains useful information.

    And sometimes I just ramble.

  • Comment removed

  • Hah, brilliant. I would never think that the bottom of a can could magnify the sun's rays like that. Very cool to know that if you polish it, it's possible. Luckily, I know if I go camping I'll have some toothpaste :-) Great job Rob--and cool name! ;-)

  • @RobH0629

Anyone called Rob HAS to be a good guy.

  • I like a bloke who doesn't take himself to seriously but what he does and shows you is important enough that it could well save you one day. BTW tried it on a red bull can and it WORKS!!! Thanks for the info

  • "it's not arson if it's your own stuff" CLASSIC

  • 2:28 if you want to burn the sun ! :O

  • @colbyblueclaw

Of course it does. I just showed you how to do it.

    Have you tried it?

  • Of Corse He Has A Roach Clip.

  • @MoraLHD

    Naturally.

  • Best thing on YouTube, good enough to go on the Telly. Bloody Hilarious!! ;oD

  • @Volunteer28

    YouTube IS the new television.

Pleased you enjoyed. Feel free to share this with your friends.

    Or even your enemies.

  • Bob smoked too many doobies. Lucky bastard

  • people act like this guys sane

  • @hectorisdaman154

    Especially this guy himself.

  • Best piece of advice I've ever been given was from this guy thanks to this video:

"It's not arson if it's your own stuff"

    :)

  • @baggervance911

The bit about not going camping with a girl called Roberta is also pretty useful....

  • @ROBwithaB NICE HAT MAAAAAN ;D

  • I love you man. This is fucking hilarious. Thanks man. You got an awesome sense of humor.

  • @MONEYBOY512

Cheers. I'm never quite sure how many people actually get my sense of humour.

I worry about people who think that I'm being completely serious. I mean, WTF?

  • WTF did I just watch

  • @cityofbones0

I ASSUME you just watched a video showing you how to make a fire with a beer tin.

If it's any consolation, I confuse myself sometimes.

  • @ROBwithaB lol

  • holy shit, you are awsome

  • @carbasanlung

    I try my best.

  • you can tell he smokes pot cause he has a roach clip on hand. LOL

  • @4020just

  • @4020just dude hes south african.... no shit he smokes lol.

  • I like that beer brand when I can find it in the states...mmm, beer, unh fire, fire good, beer good, life good.

  • @GrigoriZhukov

    Silence is golden, sometimes.

  • You sound either English or South African :)

  • @Mysterio897

    South African.

  • my project didnt turn out so well i thought i was supposed to jack off with the tooth paste to the women it showed i went to icu multiple burns on my cock ur paying for the the bill iam mentally retarted this ur youre fault

  • @lunnacy

Obviously, I need to give clearer instructions.....

  • mmm sorry but I'm from mexico if I understood everything but I do not understand is that you burn before passing it to the tinder???

  • @2098mariano

In this case I used char-cloth as the primary ignition tinder.

Char-cloth is cloth that has been "burned" without oxygen.

You can also use charred wood or charred string, something like that.

In video #7 I show how to make char cloth.,

  • It's not Arson, if it's your own stuff. I really enjoyed that.

  • I would go camping with you and rabberta no maater what just to learn from you awsome!!! keep it coming

  • @falsomknapper

Actually, I don't recommend going camping with Roberta.

  • a roach clip haha you smoke weed

  • @The420makaveli

    Bob. It's my friend Bob.

Me, I have to be a role model for the younger survivalists and pyromaniacs.

  • Might not work in the english weather.

  • @pigsnoutman

Well, it might work in summer.

    All two weeks of it.

  • just subscribed! thanks, very good video man. not too sure about that chick though, lol. ...borrowed the rotch clip from your friend eh? lol enjoyed this vid bro, good job!

  • survivor man did this :O

  • @Arkenarge

Except that he cheated. If you're talking aobut the time he was in the Kalahari Desert, I challenge him to show us how he actually made fire. I'm 99.99% sure he cheated.

Wandering away for half an hour and then arriving back to find some grass smoking?

    Nah.

    The sun moves.

Grass is not a great solar target..

The mirror was obscured by the grass.

The tin he used wasn't aluminium. (I defy you to polish a steel tin to the require mirror finish.)

So yeah, I'm pretty sure he edited.....

  • please edit down to 30 seconds. fire kicks ass.

  • @TomofHelatrobus

    That's god advice. Thanks.

  • r u south africa?

  • @misterawesomface

Indeed. South African born and bred.

  • im in the north pole just now , why isnt the tin can making a fire?

  • @logan32571

The six months of darkness might have something to do with it.

Or maybe Santa thinks you haven't been a good kid.

  • Dude no offense but you could make your videos more accurate by far. Laugh is also nice in life but that`s not really funny, but good try though.

  • @hellerase

What do you believe is inaccurate here?

  • mmmm VB!!!

  • I really lol'd at 3:45 xD Man, your videos are awesome, I think you will be first person on youtube I'll click "Subscribe" for :D Your videos are funny, educational.. so together it means they are pure awesomeness in AVI. format (or wtf is it) Thanks for uploading :D

  • @vojmor

Thanks for subscribing. Will post again soon.

  • buy a new camera because your videos are very creative

you have a youtube future! :)

  • @alexvat1995

    Thanks.

A new camera is definitely part of the plan.

  • boddington pub ale......goes down like milk

  • @riverbandits415

More of a lager lout myself.

The weather here isn't really suited to ale.

But my favourite beer is, um well, the next beer.

The local beers here in South Africa are packaged in steel tins. Very difficult to get those shiny enough.

I needed an aluminium can for this, and the Boddingtons was the cheapest imported beer at the local bottle store. Having said all that, I drank the beer, of course

    And it wasn't bad.

  • @ROBwithaB omG!!!! THANK GOD ANOTHER PERSON FROM SOUTH AFRICA! HA :D THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE

  • @ROBwithaB omG!!!! THANK GOD ANOTHER PERSON FROM SOUTH AFRICA! HA :D THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE

  • @JoshAndJoshMusic

There's quite a few now, in fact. Slowly but surely, we will take over YouTube.....

    Mwuaahahahaaaa.

  • @ROBwithaB Fuck yea broseff

  • do you really have to polish it for 45 mins? so the entire process will take over an hour roughly to make a fire? thats a disappointed, but still very useful to know. thanks for the video!

  • @H3ArTLeSsJeRk

Depends on your polishing compound. But it is a time-consuming process, yes.

There are definitely easier ways to make fire.

  • @H3ArTLeSsJeRk yeah but if you polish it you can cut the can down and always have your fire starter

  • @AtScrysTV2

Yup, it's not a bad option.

  • Hilarious and helpful, thanks a lot :)

  • Hey dude, got a match. Well light a fart with it. Another way to make fire.

  • im sorry but i dont like the way you do your videos..

you could show us 101 ways without talking so much bullshit

  • @effeXxX

    Different strokes.

I'll be putting up a series of summary videos of each method, probably less than a minute each.

Just text, no talking. Would you watch those?

But you're welcome to find someone else who knows 101 different ways to do this and watch those videos instead.

  • @ROBwithaB gee thanks , now i have to go find out what @effeXxX said lol

  • @effeXxX you're a cunt, aren't you?

  • Thats NOT toothpaste, THATS JIZZ!!!!! XD

  • @conorfarm3r

Great for hair gel, apparently. Not sure I'd want to brush my teeth with it.

  • @conorfarm3r lol

  • NO RATINGS KILL HER KILL HER!

  • roberta is so sexy im going to sub to u mate

  • oonga boonga dood

  • this is definitley going to be my science project!!

  • "whos the sexy man"

    i laught a lot

  • What's the black thing that starts the fire?

  • @PersianMusic2000

A piece of char-cloth - pre charred material like denim etc that's been "burned" in a oxygen free environment. See #7 in the series "Devil's Breath".

Other things will work too, tinder fungus, bark-fibre ball, certain punky woods. I'll be showing various options in future videos.

  • Your hilarious man.

  • Your hilarious man.

  • LOL "AND REMEMBER... ITS NOT ARSON, IF ITS YOUR OWN STUFF!!!!!" OMG I ALMOST HAD TEA COME OUT MY NOSE I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD!!! AND FYI YES I WAS DRINKING TEA.

  • @firebug0001 I work in a shop and I saw that just as a customer came in and i burst out laughing :P

  • @lexacor LOL

  • @firebug0001

This guy is South African, not English...

  • @PersianMusic2000 yeah, i know. I was drinking tea.

  • @firebug0001

Well anyway do you know what the little black thing is at the end of the clip that starts the fire? I wanna try this tomorrow.

  • @PersianMusic2000 the rod thing? thats a sweedish firesteel. for more info, just google "sweedish firesteel"

  • @polysemousncrk

Electro-magnetic induction is very well understood and utilised in thousands of applications every day. There is no cover-up. There is no such thing as a "free" energy motor. There is no "revolution".

  • Interesting technique, thanks for sharing it.

  • thumbs up for Boddington's!!!

  • rob my hand hurts!! but my feet are warm

  • how come i don't hear the classic clitter clatter of the widget moving around inside that empty Boddington Ale can?

  • @Martinius169

The can is full. (Much easier to polish a full can.)

For all I know it's some cheap third-world knockoff. Just bought it because it's an aluminium can. Locally-produced drinks are all packaged in steel cans. Which are really hard work to polish up and don't hold their shine very well.

  • @ROBwithaB My mistake. I naturally assumed that any beer can within a mile of you would be empty ;)

  • How long will the can stay polished and shiny?

  • @Ultranerdguy

I suppose that might depend on climatic conditions?

It oxideses noticeably within about a week, gradually goes grey and dull.

But it's pretty easy to buff it up again, once you've done the original hard work of polishing. The top layer of aluminium oxide is very thin, especially if the surface is mirror smooth.

  • never wear a bikini again

  • @vidman454

Very sensible advice, that, for a grown man.

Which I am probably going to be obliged to ignore.....

The intended purpose is comedic ather than aestheitic.

    Obviously.

  • awesome dude

  • @MrLevi29

    More on the way.

I happen to think the fishbowl one is pretty cool.....

  • "It's not arson, if it's your own stuff". That's beautiful! :))

  • @hellicks

And not entirely true, I suppose, if an insurance company has an interest in said "stuff".

  • Are you Jonathan winters love child?

  • @c9ari

Sad to say I had to go and google the name. A "... comic with a madcap wildness..." amongst other things on Wikipedia.

I'll take that as a compliment. Thanks.

  • @ROBwithaB

It was a compliment. LOL Maybe your Roberta should meet his Maude Frickert

  • awkward...

  • this did not take 2 parts

  • my nan went all quiet when i shew her the guy in the bikini

  • @mre1010 i love your use of the word shew. genius.

  • @mre1010

Grannies have often seen far more of life than they might lead you to believe....

  • 3:35 is the best ; (bob) cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool,oonga boonga duuuuude.----EPIC----

  • @Naughtonator

Or maybe a parabolic mirror ?

(Actually, although I refer to it as a parabolic mirror, I suspect that the shape may not be a parabaloid but rather a catenaroid surface, which is slightly stronger, allowing them to save a few milligrams of aluminium on each tin. At such shallow angles, though, the difference is minimal and the one is a pretty good approximation of the other. It would make a very small difference to the size of the focal point.)
