Without going into a (very) lengthy discussion about the properties of various metals, you are looking for a metal (or alloy) that is lustrous (ie shiny) relatively soft (making it easy to polish) not too soft (which would cause it to scratch easily, resistant to corrosion with enough strength to hold its parabolic shape.
Silver would probably work best. Aluminium is good. Gold is good. Steel works but is hard work.

For all I know it's some cheap third-world knockoff. Just bought it because it's an aluminium can. Locally-produced drinks are all packaged in steel cans. Which are really hard work to polish up and don't hold their shine very well.
I suppose that might depend on climatic conditions?
It oxideses noticeably within about a week, gradually goes grey and dull.
But it's pretty easy to buff it up again, once you've done the original hard work of polishing. The top layer of aluminium oxide is very thin, especially if the surface is mirror smooth.
(Actually, although I refer to it as a parabolic mirror, I suspect that the shape may not be a parabaloid but rather a catenaroid surface, which is slightly stronger, allowing them to save a few milligrams of aluminium on each tin. At such shallow angles, though, the difference is minimal and the one is a pretty good approximation of the other. It would make a very small difference to the size of the focal point.)

In this case I used char-cloth as the primary ignition tinder.
Char-cloth is cloth that has been "burned" without oxygen.
You can also use charred wood or charred string, something like that.

A piece of char-cloth - pre charred material like denim etc that's been "burned" in a oxygen free environment. See #7 in the series "Devil's Breath".

(Actually, although I refer to it as a parabolic mirror, I suspect that the shape may not be a parabaloid but rather a catenaroid surface, which is slightly stronger, allowing them to save a few milligrams of aluminium on each tin. At such shallow angles, though, the difference is minimal and the one is a pretty good approximation of the other. It would make a very small difference to the size of the focal point.)
