i will remember this from the newspaper clipping my brother put on his bedroom door of Bosnich after his last penalty save, getting mobbed. has villa park been as electric since? what a goal that would have been if atkinson had gone all the way!? 0:08
@hazbutler Just the once after (VP) when we beat Inter Milan (and holte End had been demolished) with World Cup stars a few months later without the help of the Holte End. Last time of great atmosphere at Villa Park. Not a great Villa side but BFR Claret and Blue Army had a great ring to it. We went into decline when we signed Liverpool reject Collymore in 97 and never really recovered.
How on earth Villa got through this is anyone's guess! 3-1 down from the 1st leg. Keeper nearly gets Sent off. Equalise the tie with just a few minutes to go. Nearly concede in stoppage time again. Then the Keeper saves the penalty that would have taken the opposition into the final, and they win in sudden death.
I did what any other little 8 year old villa fan would have done when Tranmere were a penalty kick away from winning it, looked up into the rafters of the Trinity Road stand hands clasped together, and prayed for a miracle.
@tomhoneyfield ....i did that exact same thing when we played everton in 85...i was 12 years of age with my dad...sat in the trinity....got knocked out...the trinity got sacked After that.........YIPPEE I AY YIPPEEE I OH.....
I remember having the season review of 93-94 and watching the shootout over and over again! I was only about 7. What a hero mark bosnich was! Best goal keeper of his time by a long shot!
i was there,i was ten i can remember running on the pitch after we won...my uncle said he lifted me over the barrier and i was on the edge of the 18 yard box before he got over
I was in the Holte End that day, great game, Big Ron, Deano, Dalian etc Those were the days! Dalian ran towards me when he scored at Wembley......wagging his finger......those were the days. I have the final on VHS...... doesn't fit into my BlueRay Play ..... Doh !
this has to be my favourite Villa match, it had it all, rollercoaster of a match, & then doing the scum in the final to deny them the treble, priceless
I was at this game aged 17. Obviously I was gutted beyond words when we lost but went away from the ground realising that we'd been involved in one of the best cup ties ever!!! Still a great memory apart from the result!!
its nearly 14 years ago and i still feel sick when O'Brien steps up to take the Tranmere penalty that should have put them through. Thank god for Bozzie the Barmy Aussie!
I too young to follow football at this time but it makes me sad enough watching this 14 years later so I dread to think how I'd have felt if I was there to witness it.
I was lucky enough to be in a box in the North Stand that night with my old man. It was the double one right behind the goal. When Richardson missed his pen the ball hit the glass right in front of my face! It was without a doubt the most tense game ive ever seen.
i was there that day it was my first game at villa park .. in the north stand upper .many people had left to get to there cars on the 85th min .but my dad made us stay there .which was grt on the 89th min villa scored great day 4 the team and a super day 4 me cheers dad lol villa fan 4 life
i no ma dad was in the back of the holte end that day he said it was the most of excitement for a game hes ever been for ups and downs n that. i was only 2 at the time wish i was ther
remember watching this from the back of the holte quite simply put...for sheer excitement this is the greatest game ever played at villa park we're through...we're out...oh hang on...yeah we're out...oh...shit we're definately gone this time..fuck we're through
The letter of the law is if you denied a clear goalscoring oppitunity by a foul you are given a red card.. Bosnich got a yellow and everyone bar that kenny lunt of a ref knew it.
aww, when people gave a shit about the league cup. brings a tear.
