One minute he's saying "Normal conversation! The weather! Too hot, too cold!" because she tells a joke. And the next he's telling her "Be yourself. Be yourself." No wonder this woman slipped into mental instability.

This section of the film almost unbearable to watch, especially the full context of watching the entire movie. Just gut wrenching. Some of the best acting, and directing of actors, in the history of film.
