  • but does it blend? :-?

  • AT 1:20 isn't he like... virtualy grabbing some boobs?? What was that guy thinking about??

  • breast massage

  • i c wat u did thar

  • Comment removed

  • Like a kinect

  • @NitroReviews yeah except this won't capture (spy on) your entire body and the whole room you do your goofy 'dancing' in. This isn't to imply I'm unimpressed with the kinect (that 3d mapping stuff it does is really sweet) but you could say this technology is a little more sensitive towards your privacy to say the least.

  • Porn is going to get a whole lot better.

  • @Phluffey Yea. How about psychology of porn ?

  • I want

  • Excellent production on this one!

    Kudos!

  • Put this in games!

  • This is a good narrator, plz remove the bitch...

  • WOW! well done new scientist! THAT 's INTERESTING!

  • Doesn't seem expensive. So that in turn means that if you buy one you pay 5% material 15% development and 80% "we just want money".

  • really good idea integrating older grid light technology to work as new

    Very very cool

  • WOW!!! now that's technology! I am speechless........

When can we see it hitting any products? I will give my eye tooth for that!

  • Seems similar to the technology that Neonode have patented for use in screens

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • When he moves his hands it looks like he of touching boobs...

  • Future is here xD

  • That is pretty cool;

Could we clip like 2 or 4 of the sensors on a desk?

It would be cool if I could use my entire desk as a touchpad

I could also see this technology being used with Projector Screens

  • FUCK YES

  • Dear Newscientist,

You did it! You have presented a video that is interesting, well presented and concise while being informative. I have reached for the Unsubscribe button several times, only stopping myself because your magazine is so good. I have waited for this video for a while now. Please continue like this.

    Sincerely,

    D.Lawless

  • @dylanlawless1 This is intresting because it concerns your little narrow minded world. Next time unsubscribe and don't post shit like this. This video is not even a new technology... is just shit beeing updated.

  • @lucasmontec Do you have so little in your life as to feel the need to stand up for Newscientist? I'm sure they don't need you to hold their collective hand.

By trying to make me look inerudite only demonstrates the converse nature of your statement.

To add insult to injury my comment didn't even mention the motif of the video, only the form, so to say i am "narrow minded" and "posting shit" I must insist that you sir, are a moron. You are the tick sucking blood from the neck of society.

  • @dylanlawless1 Finally a good answer! God! I was waiting so long for this! I'm so sorry, usually in this channel people are so dumb and stupid in their comments that I gave up of beeing polite and correct. Well... theres still people with something inside the head. They way i wrote my comment, at least for you that are not a troll, cannot express my opinion about this video, in ANY way. So sorry for beeing unreasonably rude and dumb.

  • This is going to fuck Microsoft Surface in the ass.

  • @D3mi4n hahaha, this is for sho!

  • lol, systems like this are already used in some (few) smartphones

  • 3D scanner

  • unfortunately there is no pressure sensitivity. So using a stylus would be a shitty experience.

  • Ahhhh but does it work with windows 7?

  • Some more sensors and this technologie could be used to build a 3D scanner.

  • This is awesome.

  • See THIS is interesting, and over 30seconds long, this is what we want Newscientist. No more of those 'previews' for nonscientific or technology related videos that have 'more information' at your website.

  • @Aeonhem You only want to see near finished projects and science is more than that.

  • i was ready for him so say at the end

"and hurry, zerotouch is now 50% off at amazon"

  • looks like normal touchscreen technology to me...

  • It would be awesome if they could reconfigure the way they are distributed to infrared sensors instead of having a framework that defines a 2D surface, you could get a sensor configuration as a box or cube to obtain results from 3D virtual figures .. . programming in three-dimensional planes.

    Im interested.

  • is this the same tech as konami's mocap arcade games???

  • I had an idea like this 4 years ago.. why dont i ever go with my ideas I COULD BE RICH by now lol

  • @TravvyG yea

  • So, can we line up a few of these in a row and get a 3D interface to go with a 3D Monitor?

  • Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant!!!

  • did he died?

  • This can be used to navigate disaster sites in Google Earth

  • what about disaster sites?

  • would this be cheaper than a normal touch screen?

  • wow, imagine minipulating your monitor like this instead of using the mouse

or using this to minipulate MRI images

i know there's ppl out there working to make force feedback gloves

image using the data from an MRI, plus the gloves, with this type of minipulation technique

you can start feeling the insides of a patient before you ever begin a surgery

  • My touch screen only allows 2 touch points. Good that they have 20 on Microsoft surface lagoon so they can scare a million fishies

  • but how will this cure cancer?

  • cool beans

  • It's like those optical sensors at stores that make the chime go off, but there are hundreds of them and much smaller. This is actually a great use of old tech.

  • Imagine combining this with a hologram

  • @Sejo323 Like in Mass Effect

  • Did he cure disease and did he died lol

  • @FrankaDith yes he died because they didn't cure the disease

  • @FrankaDith Can i use the body as a multi touch surface now? haha.

I was responding to the top comment ,dont know if you had noticed ?

  • OMG this is awesome! this will work good with a holographic display when they exist. :)

  • thats actually pretty cool, I expect to see these systems at bestbuy in the next couples years, yes?

  • Holy shit

  • minority report G.U.I.

  • A musical grid should be made so that the screen becomes an instrument. The possibilities are endless.

  • There's a bit of lag but this looks really cool! You could just take that frame off your monitor, put it on a paper thin keyboard print out, and use it to type!

  • Sometimes newscientist manages to get me excited. This is such a simple tool, and still I would dare to say it might be better than regular touch desplays, eve in it's current unfinished state. Also, it has so many applications besides touch, like scanning in 3d and so on. I really hope this catches on.

  • Anyone else have this idea like forever ago? -_-

  • I see the basis for a 3d scanner

  • Interactive Porn FTW!

  • @ 1:36, I think that a broadway group of dancers or some group, has been using this technology to dance on a 50 foot wall/screen which interacts with where their feet touch. Been around for awhile.

  • People who talk about cancer and all of that, there is one thing they have to put in their mind. People who work to imrove technologie, can't all work in the only one departement! We all have our own interest! But what you must keep in mind is every kind of discovery, can help in a other field!.... Can this "touch screen" cure cancer? No, not directly. But this tech may be use in some kind of futur traitements against cancer or any other thing. ex: radiation are used for chimioterapie...

  • @Yvessam mabe not radiation but, you know what I mean, I just don,t remember the name.

  • keep your greasy pizza grippin fingers away from my monitor

  • All I can say is...

Give us gesture recognition like they have in Minority Report.

  • @EdouardDubois My colleague works on and plays with this idea on university. He does it with two web cameras and some colours (one colour for each finger ;-) ). The hard part surprisingly is connecting it with operating system.

  • @ojik

Oh I do believe the technology exists and is out there, it's just...

    A) Too expensive to massively implement just yet.

    and

    B) Like you said there is a lot of fine-tuning that still needs to be done.

But with enough time it will become standard, I hope.

  • We are sooo close to 3D touch holograms...

  • @Zlibservacratican japan has those already ;)

  • @HoverboardFan14 Really? Then why are we messing with this junk lol.

  • @Zlibservacratican idk japan even has iced tea coke a cola!

  • @HoverboardFan14 lol I'll stick to mountain dew

  • this is frickin aws0m

  • About time!

TRUE multi-touch interfaces are just in their infancy mostly because of grandpas/grandmas that still think using a pen/stylus type device is a somehow still a relevant, efficient and useful human-machine interface mechanism... EVOLVE!!!

Except for artists that may need to use it to draw free hand like with a pen/brush, they are PURE FAIL.

  • @toulouse666 I wonder long this technology has been on the black market & used for classified purposes? I can imagine some rather interesting military applications...

  • right where do you get one..

  • now this looks promising

  • Can I use for example my huge water-retaining old vagina as surface? Its about time it came to any use for digitial interfacing applications. Surely this is as saving grace for many women like me around the globe wanting to scale and move my photos.

  • this will cure my grandmother's cancer

  • @DeagleBeagle not directly, but in some way, mabe. Mabe this tech can be involved in futur new kind of traitement. But it's not for today.

  • Turn a bouncers face into a touchscreen.....I dare ya.

  • 1:40

    mind = blown

  • *Gasp!* Who do I have to do, to get that thing?

  • Minority Report?

  • does it cure Fags sayin "Does it cure cancer?"

  • @theend1245 good point with your question, but maybe for example it can be an instrument to make faster research to create cures/handling disasters then. Indirecly kinda. Improving faster interaction with computers does excell research to be proactive against bad stuff. Just a humble thougt

  • BUT DOES IT CURE CANCER!?!!??!?!??!

neat. it looks like something out of Star Trek or a really futuristic movie.

  • Comment removed

  • interesting.

  • that is smart! :D

  • I'm reminded of Minority Report's fictional interface when I saw this. This might even not need the "touch" portion of it's name.

  • looks like the dude is grabbin some tits at the beginning

  • @tehcexymeowmix classy ;)

  • @tehcexymeowmix He was molding them about a min later

  • @tehcexymeowmix Your comment was hilarious if you are 14 years old or less.

  • Nice!

  • it look like it lags a bit but very cool

  • I hope it works on Boobs ;)

  • Hells yeah!

  • but is it gonna cure diseases ?

  • @theend1245 no, and it's not supposed to do so.

  • @theend1245 shuuuuuuut the fuck up! you guys who ask for cures for diseases are as annoying as the "did he died" newfags

  • @Linky001 Newfags? This is not 4chan you know.

  • @themightychickens if only it was... then world be a better place xD

  • @Linky001 And you end your sentence with a childish emoticon...

    Gtfo newfag.

  • @themightychickens geez... someone really needs to get the internet out their ass.

  • @Linky001 lol

  • @Linky001 did he died beacause they didnt cure diseases?

  • @Linky001 who did died? hurr hurr

  • @theend1245 Does a car cure disease? how about a toaster?....no? What about a Cell phone or even a pair of shoes?

Well i guess that makes these things useless in your eyes.

    Have you cured Disease?..

  • @CyberNeticRodent i have not cured a disease yet . also all the inventions you mentioned benefit humanity to some extent but i see no use for this piece of crap.

  • @theend1245 Riiiiiiiiiiiiight..... so because you can't think of a use (when i can think of many), what does that have to do with curing disease?

i can imagine people like you saying the exact same thing about touch screen technology when it was first invented.

    ......

  • @theend1245 "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." -- Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943

"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?" -- David Sarnoff's associates in response to his urgings for investment in the radio in the 1920s.

"Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible." -- Lord Kelvin, president, Royal Society, 1895.

  • @theend1245

"but is it gonna cure diseases ?"

It's a vastly more powerful data manipulation tool. Modeling of complex molecules and their interactions could be made much more direct and user accessible than by keyboard commands or mouse/tablet.

Modeling of medical devices, likewise, could benefit.

Why do people like you complain about developments that aren't directly in your interests even when they indirectly provide better tools for achieving those interests?

    Do YOU cure disease?

  • @DeathofSpeech Your comment is exactly what I tryed to explain. I totaly agree with you!

  • @theend1245 go study engineering in college, you're gonna be shocked when you realise none of the classes have anything to do with medical science....omg

  • @Nikon05 haha funny you mention that because Medical science is Real science! people who think engineering/electronics is as important as Medicine are fools like you :P

  • @theend1245 who do you think designs the tools and machines that are used in hospitals you moron

  • @theend1245 without your computer you couldn't spam on this channel... say thanks to engeneering.

  • add depth, some porn, good to go

  • Soon enough, victims in disaster areas will be able to turn any surface into a multi-touch surface.

  • what happened to the old female voice??

  • the water part was f-ing cool! Gimme!!! lol

  • still has massive delays

  • @quadstrike that's just proccessing power of computer though and that's subject to rapid improvement :P

  • bourne identity fuck yeah

  • wow!

  • sweet

  • Cool.

  • awesome... where do i buy one ?

  • I thought my screen had shit on it

  • So amazing, wonder when this will be out commercially.

  • Gimme!!

  • Very cool.

  • 3rd

  • Such a simple concept! The implications are huge though! Awesome! Now for a small projector in the side so you just mount this on anything and it's a screen!

  • first!!!
