Dorff is born in 73 and this is movie from 1987, he was 14 then. why the fuck he looks like he is 7 or 8 years old. i guess some kind of growth dissorder. anyway great movie!
Even though it was obvious this was more for kids, it wasn't afraid of being genuinely scary. This was back when it was okay for a kid to be scared. Where we had faith they weren't going to grow up traumatized over a freaking movie. Sure this scared the crap out of me. Sure I was terrified and had a few nightmares, but nothing that comes from my soul will traumatize me. I got to FEEL thanks to a movie... now with today's movies, there's nothing to FEEL anymore...
This was a favorite of mine as a child. I recently purchased it and rewatched it and... IT'S STILL GREAT! I have a different appreciation for it now. The special effects are amazing. Both practical & claymation/stop-motion. The pace/plotting is great but it fizzles out a bit at the end when it gets a little to "big" for itself. Overall though, a forgotten gem.
see why cant movies now a days be scary like this was in its time. this is from 1987 and it still creepy. none of the movies today give the same feeling
Ever since i saw this movie id sleep with a rope and a bat. I'd dangle the rope under my bedding hoping a hand grabbed it so i could beat it with my bat. I still sleep with the bat...

i remeber this movie finally found it after so long. watched it a dozen times when i was a kid. didnt wnt to know what was underneath the house. i always checked for holes
Great production design! Some of those optical effects still come off looking pretty good. I feel that in many cases, you can invoke a much better reaction from the actors when the crazy supernatural thing happening is actually a prop or device on the set with them rather than some CG graphics that aren't really there. There was obviously no choice in the 80s but I wish they'd still invest in actual optical effects these days a lot more than relying solely on CGI.
I remeber this movie & I loved it. It had everything but no over the top sex scenes...back then I didn't like movies with allot of kissing but with adventure & not like some magical lame stuff for babies but something scary & tough. Well I was just a kid who had a mom who didn't understand allot of english so she let me rent scary movies without thinking about the ratings... I remember watching Alien... that might have been a mistake...but the Gate to me was so cool...
Kiddie?! This was an 18 cert in the UK, that's like NC-17 in the USA, I don't think it's intended for children, though yeah sure I watched 18s way before I was 18. Just saying.
This movie was the reason I was scared to look under the bed or even go near my bed. I would take a run off and fly through the air and land on my bed because I didn't want arms from under the bed grabbing my legs. I was 6 years old. lol
i saw this movie like a decade ago...never rememberd the name although,Never forgot about it....till now i decided to look for...i Googled and googled for like an hour...Finally found it..Finally...
I remember is that guy hitting the ground (1:15) and all those little guys running in the trailer as a kid. The 80's had some good horror movies based on great stories and special effects.
Showing this movie to my gf right now. We went to see insidious and I decided to show her a REAL horror movie. the scene where the nerdy metal kid dances w/ his mom and realizes it's a dog still gives me goosebumps. that is seriously messed up. and I love it.
I always wanted 1 of those rocket sets but the price of those toys were out of my league as a kid.. closest I got to a real launch was always bottle rocket fireworks lol
What I miss best and most about 80's Horror was the fact that it was all about atmosphere and suspense and not relying so much on cheap gimmicks like cgi fx and cardboard stars of today.
I was full grown when I first saw this, and I thought, "Man this is going to mess some kids heads up good!". I knew it was seen as a teenybopper flick like Goonies, so lots of kids would be blindsided by the very weird shit going on.
OMG could someone help me remember the name of this movie where a spaceship lands on a farm or huge yard and theres this boy whos in elementary school people in this one scene have like bar codes on the back of their necks. the monsters look like balls or puffballs. i cant remember!
they put a Lot of work into this movie & they did it right~! I especially like how they played the rock record backwords and incite the demon's passage
This film was one of my kid/early teen favorite films. It's originality is so convincing over much of the BS horror crap of today. I also liked the following year's release "Pulse" which also was a very intense film for me. Those were the days of movies ............ along came the mid-90's and cinema gradually changed. Nowadays they say toothpicks (i.e. Paris Hilton ) and cosmetic plastic surgery mediawhores (i.e. Kim Kardashian) are beauty - well there's the REAL MODERN DAY HORROR FLICKS 4 U.
Good memories. I wanted something like this to happen to me when I was a kid weirdly enough. The main thing I remember was the kid had a chemistry set and I always wanted a chemistry set, also the big hole in the ground and those little creatures. Rock n Roll and horror movies in the 80's!
