  • Thanks for this video series! It was motivation for me to pick up a Mosin, and began my project of re-purposing it into a hunting rifle. The project is now nearly complete. I just want to say thanks for the videos!

  • Hey brother OIF 05-07 here. Not tryin to pretend I know more about guns than you do, but why use fire to loosen stuff up? Heat expands metal , where cold shrinks it. I've got a Berreta M92FS and the barrel and slide lock (I think thats the name of it) doesn't like to go back together easy, so I toss it in the freezer for a few minutes and bam, slides right back into place.

  • really not trying to be a jerk or a know it all here as I really enjoy and benefit from your videos but the correct phrase is "all intents and purposes" not "all intensive purposes"

  • I saw at 34 seconds that there were 3 men in white. Looked to me like the guy on the left is Vassili Zaitsev. Good video.

  • @dkthomps Good call. I can't verify for sure, but I looked through a bunch of pictures of him and the smile is extremely similar. GG

  • #1. Thank you for your service.

#2. Thank you for the video! Awesome detail that is much appreciated for someone that has a lot to learn, like me.

  • which is better a high wall or a low wall?

  • How did you learn all of this? Thorough a gunsmith school? You know your shit!

  • i honor of those that were forced to fight or be killed... :/

  • you know where i can find the pic at :33. tried some searches on google, but nothing. thanks.

  • This looks like an excellent series and you do a great job presenting it. I think I'll keep on watching.

  • That's is where my tooth brush went!

  • Do you happen to know what the mosin nagant firing pin gauge that only has one big notch in it is used for? Came with my mosin i bought today

  • last of the mohicans theme?

  • Does it matter what kind of head space gauge field gauge to use? Are all the head space gauge field gauge the same size or do I have to buy a special kind for mosin nagant?

  • At 0:18 old school anti aircraft fire ooooh yyeeeah

  • damn it now i want vodka

  • i just watched The Last of the Mohicans last night :p

  • what is the name of the song that played at the beginning

  • I cannot find a head space gauge that will work without removing the extractor. Does anyone know where I can find one?

    Thanks

  • Just wanted to say thanks for your amazing series of videos man!!! they led to me buying my first rifle last night.... a Mosin Nagant of course. :D

  • how did you remove the bolt from the gun?

  • Quick question, is it a sign of a poorly manufactured/unsafe M1891/30 if when the bolt is drawn to the rear, such as the way you had it in the beginning of the video, if the bolt seems slightly loose? If I have mine drawn to the rear, I can wiggle the back of the entire bolt assembly about 2-3 cm. up and down.

  • o_o i have to say that is the best ^$%#*&$@ opening i have ever saw about a mosin nagant.

  • I bought a firing pin tool and it's not accurate where is a good site to get them from?

  • funny how you glorify the red army when it was they who committed more war atrocities than anyone...RIP to all who fell to these sick fuckers....the greater evil, less mainstreamed

  • @iraqveteran8888 my parents wont let me get a "war gun" like an ar10 or AK but they say i can get a hunting gun, i want to get a semi automatic rifle in .308win with iron sights. Do you have any reccomendations for me? It just needs to look or seem like a hunting rifle so they'l let me get it. i saw some that only hold 4 rounds but those arent adequate for me. budget is not a problem, just needs to be semi-auto.308win iron sights. A higher capacity than 4 would be nice.

  • If I got a 91/30 thats covered in cosmo, assuming its never been shot, do I need to check the guage before firing?

  • @yoyoyowasuppy I would....yes.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 i have an m44 that has had 2 previous owners one of which claimed to have shot it should i just give her a quick clean then check the firing pin protriosn and roll out to the range?

  • Comment removed

  • @yoyoyowasuppy Just bring a range buddy and give him the honor of test firing it XD.

  • Unfortunatelly.. those who fought patriotic war were on German side.. like Vlasov for example.. there were fighting against foreigner jewish powers who killed their royal family.. it's bit more to it..

  • How do you spell the factory name?

  • @omgiTsmeJon Izhevsk

  • I am looking into buying a sks or mosin, what are things that i should look for before buying? I read in the forums that I should look into the headspace, will there always be a problem with all arsenal refurb?

  • hey man, props on the kia,mia bracelet

  • what is the song?

  • Where do you get a field gauge?

  • my pin touches the 95..what do i do?

  • @deadpope66 Just back your firing pin out a bit then test it till it touches the 75 mark ;)

  • I just wanted to say that your entire series of videos dealing with this rifle are great. Thank you so very much for your time in putting these together.

  • Thanks for the firing pin adjustment tips. I bought two Mosin's the other day (one for myself, and one as a Christmas present for my pops) and his was way out of tolerance. That would have made for a lousy Christmas morning at the range! thanks again for the tips.

  • if your worried about marring metal serfaces in a vise, i req ether lead or a other soft metal and put between the part your working with and the vise.

  • Is there a way to measure firing pin protrusion without a field tool

  • Great stuff.

  • to fix the fireing pin do you just twist the end the the bolt like if you where go to dissicemble the bolt thanks

  • ☆☆☆☆☆

  • Hey where is that music from in the intro?

  • @intercepter01 the intro music is from Last of the Mohicans

  • you should build it like the rare vz54 built by cz for a very short time

  • If the primer is pierced, is it just an annoying experience, or is it the kind that leaves you without a face?

  • @ThaddeusMcSpalding Its just a minor scare usually.

  • last of the mohicans. somehow i only get to see the end of that movie every time its on tv but i love this music. oh and where do you get the field gauge?

  • last of the mohicans. somehow i only get to see the end of that movie every time its on tv but i love this music

  • Wow…@0:45 puts it all in perspective!

  • @Iraqveteran8888 I'm sure somebody has told you this before, but the proper way to pronounce Izhevsk is e-sheh-vsk

  • will an ear gauge work?

  • Comment removed

  • My extractors are burned fast probably cause I was to lazy to take em out, or didn't think the grease got in there to or both. lol But were on the same page, that's for sure. I'm not a copy of you though, I'm using a cheapo ATI black stock I want to float, appreciated always.

  • @hangemhigh2000 There are plenty of extractors laying around out there. Buy one and drive on.

  • Good video. As usual, you are teaching me something. There is a lot to learn about this interesting rifle even if you are not interested in sporterizing it. I own four of them.

  • @rrl55 I hope the damn thing turns out good...thats all I have to say. Half of the battle is doing the work good, and the other is have a barreled action that will deliver the goods.

  • @gearboy12550 ah ha, Obviously you never held a Persian Mauser? Keep your money, it no contest.

  • @hangemhigh2000 If it's not made by a German, it's not a real Mauser.

  • @gearboy12550 Mausers still have to be checked for safe headspace. Out of all the rifles I have dealt with, I have never heard of a Mosin blowing up, but I HAVE heard of Mausers blowing up.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 The Russians always make their stuff with durability and reliability in mind. The Mosin and the AK47 are two examples of that.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Of course... leave out the enfield :/

  • @gearboy12550 - Please, your talking about the Springfield not the Mauser! I love my Mosin though, can't afford the Springfield!?

  • @vulpixgrant Mauser gewahr ist uber alles.

  • @gearboy12550 Lets test my hypothesis, I believe that the mosin would destroy the Mauser because It its better in the survival category. And it had better range and accuracy then the k98. Germans were afraid of Russians with the mosin. Russians weren't scared of Mauser.

  • @matthewHizzle You're comparing apples & oranges. The Mauser is a Mercedes, & the Nagant is a VW. Maybe you're right for the applicatrion. You go get your Mosin all muddy in the field & I'll leave my K98 on the mantle or on display in the museum where it belongs. Your range/accuracy claims are your opinions, & that's it. Comparing the Nagant to the Mauser is like comparing a "plumbers delight" sten gun to a Benelli. Like I said before, k98 = finest bolt action riflemade by a human hand.

  • @matthewHizzle "Russians weren't scared of Mauser." I think you should watch the movie "Enemy at the Gates" starring Ed Harris as a German sniper. It's based on reality. If the Ruskies weren't SHAKING IN THEIR BOOTS due to German snipers, why did they make such a hubbubb about taking him down, ON THEIR OWN TURFF!? Don't you tell me Ruskie Red Commies didn't piss yellow icecubes down their legs on account of German snipers.

  • @matthewHizzle Furthermore, I don't know if you know or not, but most modern bolt action hunting/military rifles are a BLATANT copy of the Mauser. The Remington 700 series is a good example. If Mosin is so much better than Mauser, how come Remington & EVERY1 ELSE didn't steal the plans to Nagant instead of Mauser like they did? Need I remind you that the Germanic people were the 1st to rifle the barrels of their guns? Saying that a Ruskiy Nagant is better than a Mauser is like saying a baboon

  • @matthewHizzle can pilot a space ship better than the man who invented it!

  • @gearboy12550

    your out of your element.

  • @gearboy12550 YOU. How dare YOU Insult a GREAT RIFLE of my GREAT COUNTRY. That was MY FATHER'S first rifle. And HIS FATHER BEFORE HIM. AS WELL AS MINE. IT WAS ALSO MY SON'S. IT'S THE TRUE GUN OF PATRIOTS.

THE K98 WAS A WEAPON OF THE NAZI. HOW DARE YOU.

  • @LeksMishka You're right, I'm sorry I insulted your Marxist RED Commie heritage that's been responsible for the deaths of more people than any other political ideology in history COMIBINED, INCLUDING NATIONAL SOCIALISM. Let me make it up to you, ok? Let's get to geather over a bottle of Stoli wodka, I'll bring a nice potatoe & cabbage borsch, & we can make toasts to comrade Lenin, comrade Marx, comrade Trotsky, & last but not least, comrade Stalin, dah? Kiss my 1/2 Kraut ass, Russiche.

  • @gearboy12550 Well, I suppose that's why we beat your Kraut ass down in WW2 then, You Nazi Scum.

  • @LeksMishka Don't be so proud of yourself, you marauding SLAVS didn't do it all by yourself. You had The US, who Germany was NEVER hostile to, & the rest of the world along with the support International jewish finance ( the same ilk that made up 98% of the Marxist Bolshevik comissars that starved 60 million White ethnic Russians to death & set you on your murderous campaign against The Fatherland.) to help you & it took every bit of it to stop Germany from taking over all of Europa.

  • Holy shit the ignorance of these comments is astounding.

  • @TheWhoaDude and I don't mean the questions about the rifle O_O

  • @TheWhoaDude I know, he's a moron, isn't he?

  • @gearboy12550 yea, germany was innocent, those 12 million were processed into ghettos and gassed in SELF DEFENSE!!!

  • @Dmajorproductions OH, 12 MILLION NOW?! You need to look at the numbers, you're going the wrong way. All those plaques that adorn the concentration camps have ALL had to reduce the number of supposed victims. The 6 million lie has been used over & over & over again by jews in history to generate sympathy for them. & yes it was self defense. A headline in the NY Times read: JUDAH DECLARES WAR ON GERMANY." This headline ran WELL in advance of Germany invading Poland & the start of WW2. In fact,

  • @Dmajorproductions the start of WW2 was ALL about Germany defending itself from the Draconian restrictions set up by the Treaty of Versailles. Germany invaded Poland to take back the port of Danzig which BELONGED TO GERMANY BEFORE WW1. France & England declared war on Germany for invading Poland, but didn't seem to mind that RUSSIA WAS DOING THE SAME DAMNED THING! Look up the Massacre in the Katyn forrest, perpetrated by Russians & blamed on the Nazis. Look it up. IT'S ALL TRUE & EASILY VARIFIED

  • @gearboy12550 im not saying i condone what russia did either, im saying if you are rationalizing what germany did 70 years ago, your a fucking dumbass. nuff said.

  • @Dmajorproductions Read the treaty of Versailles. The only way Germany could have paid off their war reparations was to print it's currency into oblivion. Kinda like what America's doing right now. No modern civilation on earth could be expected to abide by the sanctions put on it under that treaty. & Germany's reaction was only natural. Learn a little more about WW2 from a source other than the jew Steven Spielberg, fuckin' dumbass. Nuff said.

  • @Dmajorproductions h+t+t+p:(2x forward slash)youtu(dot)be/XxkyqtQJtqQ "What started WW2."

  • @gearboy12550 i dont care who started it, im saying youre an idiot if your defending a country who sat quietly and watched as 12 million people just like you and me were systematically killed like insects. and every country is guilty of some form of genocide, but you dont rationalize it, asshat.

  • @Dmajorproductions You spend too much time on Yankeeprepper's channel, & it shows, scrotumring.

  • @gearboy12550 what does that even mean? who is yankeeprepper?

  • @Dmajorproductions Figure it out, nipplecumberbun. Who's Yankeeprepper?! Bwah-hah-ha.

  • @gearboy12550 bwahahaha i dont live on the internet! nipplecumberbun? thats not very clever. just. stop.

  • @Dmajorproductions Not very clever huh? Maybe, but it's a whole lot more clever than "asshat" now isn't it, clitorisbowtie?

  • @gearboy12550 attempting to win an argument on the internet by using made up insults. you win. germany should start a second holocaust.

  • @Dmajorproductions Thanks, taintpiercing. But like I told you earlier. The Holohoax isn't the 1st time the jews have kicked the 6 million figure around. They've used it on numerous occasions throughout history to generate sympathy for themselves. So it wouldn't be the "2nd" if people finally wake up to their scams, LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO, & start booting them out just like the 109 regions of Europe they were kicked out of besides & way before Nazi Germany: France, Prussia, Spain, Vienna, Rome, etc.

  • @gearboy12550 everyone else can see he is a white supremacist right?

  • @Dmajorproductions Why are you addressing me whan you're talking to every1 else? There's no such thing as a "White supremacist," that's just some Marxist PC term some jew thought up that doesn't really mean anything like "African American," "bi-racial," & "physically challenged." None of them are real words. Negro, mongrel, & handicapped are. They're cover "terms" are used to make them "less offensive," just like "white supremacist" is you to denote negative connotations. I'm a White NATIONALIST

  • @gearboy12550 OH MY GOD, PLEASE STOP. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. OR YOUR MADE UP PROBLEMS.

  • @Dmajorproductions YOU really opened a can of worms, didn't you? You responded to 1 of my comments, pal, ok. & now you want it to stop? Sorry pal, I don't have any made up problems, I have enough real 1's to worry about: The USS Liberty, The Zebra killings, en vogue flash mobs of angry "youths," Marxist black militants toting billy clubs & intimidating decent voters in front of polling places, the illegal brown tide horde from south of the border that is INVADING this country, etc. etc. etc.

  • @gearboy12550 NOBODY CARES.

  • @Dmajorproductions No body cares? Well, I beg to differ with you, I care, & I'd bet alot of the people who watched this video would too. & you can't tell me YOU don't care. It's obvious a yellow jacket crawled up your ass over it or you wouldn't have responded to my comment in the 1st place, & you're STILL keeping up with it. In fact, you don't care about it sooo much that you're using all CAPS to show your passion/anger/frustration. So don't tell me you don't care, I'd bet that more than likely

  • @gearboy12550 stfu

  • @Dmajorproductions you've got a big throbbing vein in your forehead as you read this because you don't care about it so much.

  • @gearboy12550 Yes, because Nazis are so much better than Communists.

  • @Symbiot5 Well said. Like I mentioned earlier, Communism has been repsosnible for the deaths of more people than EVERY other political ideology in history COMBINED, including National Socialism.

  • @gearboy12550 I've never heard of a political system taking up arms. People kill people, no matter what their political system or ideology is. The only reason communism doesn't and never will work is because human beings are greedy and selfish. Communism is bad, Fascism is bad, large government is bad, but what does that have to do with a rifle? Mosin Nagant is a good rifle. The Mausers are good rifles. The Garand is a good rifle. The K31 is a good rifle. Last I checked, it's personal preference

  • Really dug the dedication at the beginning of your video. I've never seen so many dead Communists!

  • @gearboy12550 That's not very funny.

  • @merlock101 I wasn't shooting for satire.

  • yet another excellent video, you have one of the best channels on you tube and i commend your effort

  • great vid, as a class A machinist to a gunsmith, a trick we use wken checking visual clearances is to put a post-it note behind the component and visual gauge. It lights it up for a much clearer view. Just an FYI great video.

  • @MrDowneast Great idea thanks

  • Excellent pair of videos, Good job with explanations and thank you! :)

    Ω†

  • Another great video sir. I am currently looking for a field gauge for my two MN 91/30's. This video has answered a lot of questions for me and I would like to thank you. I like the Washington Apples sweat shirt you're wearing in the vid. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and I know all about them apples!

  • Hey they have a nylon stock for the mosin nagant at cheaper than dirt. cheaperthandirt(dot)com/MGR341-1(dot)html do you know if this will work on all mosin nagant?

  • Great opening, honoring a great battle rifle and the men and women who carried them

  • Dig the music from Last of the Mohicans.

  • where did you get that bore gauge?

  • Cosmoline in the stock isnt bad is it?

  • @Mauser2012

No. They all have it. Before storage the entire rifle was submerged in a cosmoline tank. They were supposed to remain there until the no more bubbles came out of the rifle.

  • @littlestoney406 Allowing excess cosmoline to remain in the stock can soften the wood considerably and effect accuracy over time as the wood softens severely. You don't pour solvent and oil all over your modern rifle's stock while you are cleaning it, do you?

  • @Iraqveteran8888

I was just stating that they all have cosmoline in the stocks. If you are going to put this rifle back into service, then yes, it could be bad and should be removed. Plus, a hot day at the range with several rounds through one, makes for some sticky hands.

  • @Mauser2012 Nah not in small quantities, but if it is caked, it's a good idea to remove a lot of it.

  • The tune is actually originally a piece called "The Gael" by Scottish composer Dougie MacLean. They took that tune and re-arranged it a bit for the movie. Great choice of music though!

  • Great video.love the videos on mosins

  • I'm looking forward to the rest of these videos.

  • say after me, ish-ev-sK, izhevsk.

  • @norwegianwiking I know right I have commented like fiftey time on how to say Izhevsk. Its starting to get annoying.

  • @cwbyfan223 I've told you guys, I'm a redneck, I pronounce things as best I can. I ain't one of thems so-fist-o-ma-cated European types.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 Haha I understand but just watch one of marshalzhukovs videos where he has a Izhevsk mosin nagant and listen to how he says it. Its not hard once you hear it right.

  • the germans were soo much better in so many ways with their military during wwII, they lost one man to every 15 russians.

  • @1913lithgow yeah but they outnumbered them 30 to 1

  • perfect timing for these videos. im currently in the market for a mosin nagant.

  • Comment removed

  • Man, WW2 was SOOO complex.

The Russians were just as bad as the Germans if not worse.

But we let them invade poland and subjugate eastern europe without a second thought. Why? To stop the Nazis. Oh the Irony.

Excellent video on the Nagant though, thumbs up.

  • @PrepSurvivor The russains lost more people in WW2 then 3 times what we have lost in all of ours combined, I think the govt. realized this and was not going to through a fit when they took over the slavic countries. The Russains were bad but the were not insane and were not trying to elminate 90% of the worlds people due to their race.

  • @cwbyfan223

I realize this, this is why i said WW2 is incredibly complex.

A human tragedy indeed, still, Stalin killed 20 million and history ignores it.

  • @PrepSurvivor Historians estimate he cause the death of more than that, they typicallly agree on upper 20's to low 30's in millions of his own people.

  • @cwbyfan223 The only difference between them was the Nazi's used a race as a scapegoat and cheap labor source and with the Commies it was class for the same purposes.

    They were both Dictatorships.

    They were both Police States.

    They were both Socialist.

  • @TacticalCitySlicker You're forgetting 1 other difference, the US fought along side the Red Commie Slav Ruskie bastards against the Germans.

  • Phenomenal series. All of your vids could be shown to newbies and they would understand well what you are doing and why. Thanks for being so detailed and thank you for taking your time to upload.

  • This is really great. I really want to get a Mosin Nagan M91/30 and all the info I can get on them the better.

  • Is this the same procedure you'd follow for a K31?

It would be great to see a series of vids on how to get a K31 ready for a first firing.

Excellent vids - professional, helpful and thorough without extraneous detail

  • I wanna see how your gonna remove the original bolt handle and replace it with a curved one for scope mounting purposes. The ATI kit ive seen online tells u to saw the original bolt handle off and bolt on a new manufactured one. No way am i sawing my gun....thats the only reason i havent sporterized my mosin.....luv your vids though man...I wish u would do more AK vids...I would luv to pick your brain about that gun.

  • Looks like you have a good series going here. Start to finish, here's step one dummy, here's step two dummy. Just the way I like it. I appreciate your vids a good deal. Thanks for the Mosin series.

    Wicker762

  • @wicker762 Look at it like this....Everyone that experiments in gunsmithing, especially for their own use, has to start somewhere, and right now, there is someone watching this video that is going to learn something, and there are professional gunsmiths on here that are going to provide their input as well so it is a win win situation for me and the viewers. I may not have the most subscribers on youtube, but I have the BEST subscribers on youtube with the same knowledge and passion as me.

  • @Iraqveteran8888

I agree 100%. I greatly appreciate the step one, step two, step three instructions. Keep 'em comming and thanks again!

  • Awesome. Love your vids. Thanks man.

  • These are going to be some fun videos to watch thank you so much for doing them!!

  • what were those soldiers doing at 0:16???

  • @nightshade288 Firing at aircraft

  • @Iraqveteran8888 would small arms fire have really done much to aircraft? exspecially if your shooting into the air like that you would think allot of its power would be gone, I am probably wrong though

  • @Kooletz71 If the Russians did it, it had to have worked for them at some point.

  • I find this stuff incredibly interesting. Makes me want to move back to Tennessee. My parents have a farm where I could shoot all I want and a big shed that would be perfect for weekend warrior projects like this.

  • : )

  • Great info.

  • how do you clean the locking lug recess?

  • really looking forward to this series, ive got 2 nagants, and i want to sporterize one of them

  • even before the actual video started the song in the beginning alongwith the war pics had me in a deep patriotic mood lol where can i get that track from ?

  • can't wait to see the outcome!!

  • Are you going to use one of those nice Boyds wood stock? Their pepper laminate color looks beautiful.

  • What's the fantastic piece of music I hear in the beginning of this video?

  • ✭✭✭✭✭

  • nice vid.very informative
