This is the truth...sorry to break it to you so harshly: 100 years from now, when people are looking back at great music of our time, the only hip hop artists that might be remembered are the ones that really had something to say, like Wu Tang and Lauryn Hill.

No one will give a fuck about a Jay Z or silly gangsta lyrics by then.

I love good hip hop, but hip hop's got a long way to go in terms of making truly meaningful music.

As much as I hate to admit it, I would have to agree with you, but I am fairly confident that hip hop will always have a presence in the forthcoming generations music whether its for the better or the worse...well the way it is now, its aiming to be for the worse.

The same could be said for other genres of music such as punk rock.

I think that good hh (and even some bad hh) will have some lasting effects and reverberations on music as a whole 100 yrs from now. But, as much as I love good hh, it lacks the philosophical underpinnings that other great contemporary music, like rock, has already conquered. Unless more hh artists...

@betomas ...step up their game and get to the root of philosophical themes (like Lauryn Hill, some Lupe Fiasco, & Wu Tang), I believe that hh will meet its demise and only exist as a shadow of itself kind of like disco. It's a scary thought to be sure and I hope this doesn't happen, but, like you said, 'rap' is aiming for the worse.
