@d4mi3nBr0th4 These weights are more for fishing on the beach where there is only sand on the bottom. for logs and rocks you may want to use a silver dollar or tear drop sinker. best bet is carolina rigged egg sinker with texas rigged bait.
@RobbinsJoe surffishing(dot)tripod(dot)com do not add the 3 W's at the beginning. The link is in the video info. Geocities went down so I had to revert to an old saved version of my website but the info is still there.
I made some crude spider weights using small sections of rebar that I found and coat hanger legs wrapped in gorilla tape. (I told you they were crude) but they worked fine, buried in the sea floor and sprung with the mouse trap affect like they should. I will be making some nice ones in the future like in this great video .
To twist the eye up i would get one of those thing that you use to twist wire to hold re-bar together when pouring concrete!! It would be alot faster...
Well I don't loose them and if I do loose them there is always a 20-30 long "SHOCK LEADER" on them so all I have to do is let the rip tide stretch it out and go out and snag it up and I get me gear back. Not to mention that with these weight I just run a new wire through the bottom when the legs break off. I have a couple of weights I've been using for over 10 years.
I actually drilled those nail holes with a nail that had the head cut off. The Ounces depends on how much lead you pour into the mold. this weight was about 5 ounces. Go price a 5 ounce weight... You're looking at about $6
To get the lead...Go to a tire shop and ask them if they have any old lead to sell or give away (They use it to balance the wheels). or if you know a plumber, ask him/her. I probably have over 100 lbs of lead that i've collected over the years. (It's all melted into one pound bars.
Spider weights are used in the surf (Fishing from the beach) They sink into the sand and the little arms hold your bait where you cast it, They also set the hook most times when a big fish takes the bait.
be very cautious about any water falling into the melting pot, especially sweat. also you really should wear safety glasses. Manny, i think your vids are great!

That would be good if you have one handy but for just making a few weights it's not worth the cost.

Could use a cordless drill to wind them up fast if you really wanted to. Great video series you have.

Be very cautious about lead fume inhalation, wear a respirator.

WARNING: Do not put hot lead on anything wet - It will pop and send hot lead everywhere... Believe me I know!
