This isnt a dirty hit, just unlucky. Reimer scouts forward a tiny bit just before the collision which is what cause most of the damage.

Gionta wanted to cut in front of the crease to rejoin the play.... for some reason Reimer lunged forward ... who knows what he was thinking...the puck was moving away from the net... maybe he thought he could block Gionta... maybe he thought he could draw a penalty..Gionta actually tries to twist by Reimer but he was trapped between the two players and Reimer's lunge. I think that's why there was no big reaction from the leafs and even Reimer himself

Come one guys, hindsight is 20/20. Healy's broadcasting career leaves a lot to be desired but he was a good backup and has taken his fair share of run ins with forwards. I think the way the masks are, they can cause devastating results depending on how tight you tighten the straps. I know the ones that take a hard hit usually snap the straps buckles off but his were intact and came off pretty willingly. Reimer likely has as Wilson said, whiplash like symptoms so his neck is the issue.
