@thatthingthatitdoes well its not so easy to know, best thing is to use a 60 watt, 100 watt and 150 watt soft white bulb where the uvb light is going and see what wattage u need to get the basking temp right then thats the size megaray uvb bulb you'll need the same for a halogen flood light to make a 2nd basking spot without uv, cause everyones set up is different you'll need to do the little test to see what ur needs are, check out the small lighting habitat video
Can you help me out I get very confused so I was wonderin if you could tell me the most simple & best way to get what I need for my iguanas & where to get them easily without going online when you say halogen they have them at wal-mart & places like that, is that the same thing? You also say kalven its that in any normal tube light? I just need to know exactly what to get without a bunch of diff. options & figuring & how much all of it will cost me if you can help me that would be great!
hey binty so i bought my green iguana and i got a bulb thats called a repti halogen and it says it has a higher output of UVA and its 150W .. and i got another light dome the contains a regular basking bulb with out UVB or uva how ever im trying to find out with this repti halogen contains uvb ... do i need another light that contains uvb ? i already got 3 fixtures including the red bulb that i put on only at night ..
yea u still must have a uvb light, the reptihalogen is nothing more then a halogen bulb with a fancy name so they can charge u alot more for it, you'd save a bunch of money buy ordering a megaray uvb light they last over a year, another trick is most lights put out uva so their trying to fool ya, then goto lowes & buy a shop light double fixture and 2 pack of 5000K fluorescent tubes the width of your cage, check out the small habitat lighting video to see more
hey I just purchased a pack that had a basking light and a night light which is red.. But the bulb doesn't contain any uvb ... So do i have to get a compact florescent bulb that displays kelvin color and get another one that contains uvb?
yea the key light is the UVB light but i wouldn't buy any compact fluorescent uvb lights they were blinding reptiles last year i would never use one, the megaray uvb light is the only ones i'll use u can order one from reptileuv, com or u can use 2 48" long zoomed reptisun 5.0 uvb lights in a double fixture with the basking light on one end & the red light for night heat or a CHE or megaray heat projector for night heat
hey i watched both parts they are very interesting :) in my red iguanas cage he has on bulb purplt for heat and basking, then one uva-uvb tube light (replaced every six months) and one couler inhancer buld towards the midle. i allways thort that was fine for him. whats your opinion?
well if the one basking light is a halogen used for added light & color +heat so he can bask without UVB thats fine, only 2 of the fluorescent long tube lights are good quality but extreamly low lux good for a minimun amount of uvb to keep MBD away but not enuff for their eyes to work right or to boost their immune system & should be replaced at 3 months, the megarays cost over $35 to hand make they put out 20 or more times the lux to they know to close their pupils to protect the inner eye from
high levels of uvb like they would see in natural sunshine, then depending on the megaray if its self ballasted it puts out more heat for natural basking, then using a 5000 kelvin CF bulb with the same lux output used with a halogen of the same lux output give even levels of colors a much higher lux like in the wild the 3rd eye helps to trigger a boosted immune energy level & allows them to bask with or without uvb to digest while seeing in full color & to feel much better also
very high quality of light is the key found in the latest research on the uvguide,uk & reptileuvinfo, com u get yellows, oranges, reds mostly from a regular halogen, then green, yellow, little blue, purple & high UVB, UVA from the megaray, then blues, purple, green from the CF bulb they all mix their output to best match a real full spectrum as reptiles see it & with matched lux output no one color over powers the others, reptileuv matches them & ur set up its a HUGE improvment & last much longer
um in the uk, we just have heat lights, and uvb's ment to be replaced every 8 months. but i replace every six. we dont hav all the halogen stuff. we have couler inhancement lights but thats about it
theres a supplier in the uk for the megaray lights just click on the link on the main reptileuv site where u can order it all, they make megarays just for europe u can also read more at the uvguide,uk and the uvb_meter_owners group on yahoo is are great sources
ah ok just know that the compact fluorescent UVB light sold my zoomed, exoterra, zilla & others have been blinding reptiles for over a year now so be very careful your not using one the only ways to tell is if its made in china & if u buy a solarmeter 6.5 UV Index meter, you can read the independant report on it in the files on the uvb_meter_owners group on yahoo & also on the uvgide,uk site the other ones wont hurt them just the uvb, Frances at the uvguide is testing a new set of exoterra bulbs
well i use megaray 100 watt uvb lights and a 100 watt halogen and 2-40 watt 4 foot long fluorescent tubes that have a 5000 kelvin color and are not uvb lights this is know as megaray combo lighting and its the best in the world and also the safest and will boost their immune system too.
@iguana71495 i only use megaray uvb lighting and their combo lighting too theres nothing even close to it. i use 100 watt megaray, a 90 watt halogen and 2 48"flourescent tubes with a 5000K color rating for each iguana, and a heat projector for day or night heat
i recently bought a GE halogen color enhanced full spectrum bulb. is this safe for my ig?is it good for him??? i have the power sun bulb as his main basking and a 2 ft uvb flourescent on the other side..i got some vids up of the setup should i change anything?
its safe but a regular halogen would be better, you want it for a 2nd basking spot without UVB & for the yellow-orange color, the powersun will lose 80% of its UVB output in 3 months, same for the 2ft uvb tube so ordering a Megaray 100 watt or the EB 60 watt UVB would last you (instead of 3 months) it should last about 15 months for the 100 watt or about 24 to 30 months for the 60 watt, then get 1 of their CF 26 watt non UVB & 1 halogen all 3 are matched in output from reptileuv, com
that way he will get the same brightness in each bulb so all the colors will be the same brightness too, you should also get him some herptivite and nutribac DF so you can clean out any salmonell he might have and help him digest even better so he will grow bigger & be healthier too, have u had a fecal check done yet? most igs come with worms but you'd need meds only from a vet to get rid of them if he has any so he can grow like normal. later if u can also order a UVB meter its good to have
i ordered the halogen 75 watt 30 par from that site..which megaray the metal halide or the self ballasted..or are they the same. no i didnt bring him to vet yet im goin to make an appointment for next week...besides checking for worms and doin fecal sample is there any other tests i should get done
the 100 watt mercury vapor self ballasted light is a great one to start out with it will give you UVB, UVA and basking heat all in one and its the lowest like $46 should last u about 12 to 18 months, watch my lighting matinance video the bulbs & fixtures should be cleaned every 3 months to get the most out of them to save money, order lights together & save on S&H
that should read S&H lol hey also if u have a 100 watt megaray in the tank on the far end, then the 26 watt CF they have down past the other end alittle so it shines in the tank yet on the shelf too and the halogen down the other end of the shelf for a 2nd basking spot without uvb, that way he will get combo lighting and see in full color and his food will look great & he can bask with or without uvb to digest and feel great!, just an idea based on your setup :)
haha i've had afew people ask me too and i'm still learning myself. i just got back from Nc. picking up Woody after his operation and my car had a hose blow out and i had to rent a truck and tow it home 200 miles! so i wont be going anywhere till the dealer gets my part in lol but it sounds like fun! years ago i drove 10,000 miles one year showing volunteers how to do iguana educational talks but gas was ALOT cheaper then! :)~
have you seen my new iguana room/habitat video yet?
Thx fot the advice:p I wnet to to the vet and he told me most propably was coz of a low temp.. so am gonna buy a heat ceramic bulb! He also gave me critical care formula to give him and she'll be fine I hope!!
ohhh ok thats good stuff to help, you should buy a heat projector instead from reptileuv, com it puts out the heat right where you want it better and has a built in screen cover so they & u can't get burned by it, much safer! and their uvb lights are the the best for making and keeping high levels of calcium & D3 but they make it in their skin naturally like in the wild when under the megaray lights yet they are made safe so not to give them too much uvb either they even tell you not to use
calcium powder with D3 in it because the lights are so good also they sell herptivite which is the best for vitamins & uses beta carotine their body makes into vit.A so they also can't be over doesed by you adding too much & the probiotic Nutribac DF so they can digest best If u follow how i feed mine & use everything i do from reptileuv including the UVB meter they sell, you will never have this problem again & it will heal naturally & quickly everything he sells is for rehabbing sick iguanas
cool, yea he doesn't make alot of profit from the stuff he sells he cares more that people buy the best quality to keep their reptiles healthy & hes helps many rescues and shelters too so thats why i work hard to make videos for his stuff & i get to use his research & others who work with him from around the world to make my videos the most up to date on care so it makes it great. check out uvguide,uk advancediguanacare & uvb_meter_owners on yahoo groups for more info on health & lighting
oh and look on his site you might get your stuff faster and maybe a little cheaper from his distrubitors in the UK or another country closer to you cause every little bit u can save while still buying the highest quality just can't be beat! :) Good Luck & i hope your iggy will be feeling better soon! if u need anything else just ask!
My igy has MBD and damn i want to see her happy again.. she's too young amlost 1.5y old! Im taking her to a vet the only one in the country tomorrow! My god :(
sorry to hear about your iguana, yep MBD kills so many igs every year goto reptileuv, com & order a megaray they also have a couple distrubitors in Europe these lights are made for rehabbing sick reptiles & are hand made of the best materials also watch both of my feeding videos fresh foods are much better then pet store food & u can print off a food list from greeniguanasociety, org also read more at uvguide,uk sure hope she gets better soon email me if u need more help
Thanks it took me serveral months of reading research papers & learning from Bob the owner of reptileuv and Frances at the uvguide,uk Dr.Brames and others on reptileuvinfo, com and uvb_meter_owners group on yahoo to help me learn and theres always more research coming out. :) Glad you liked it and learned some new stuff about reptiles
I need to know what bulbs to use on my green iguana. specific name brands and watts would be preferred.
