I was at Halle Hewetson elem all the way in downtown Las Vegas, the last blast shook the walls of the school so hard, that dust as thick as smoke came out of the ventilation system. The fire alarms were going off, and they evacuated us. My dad was on the 95 freeway, at about Sunset rd., and got pushed off to the side of the road, I can still remember looking at the cracks in our van's front windshield.
I was 7 yrs old and in the second grade down the road at CT Sewell. I remeber that day still, my aunt still works at Timet around the corner from that place.
This is by far the best documented explosion ever caught on tape. Even better then those atom bomb video's, because of the effect it had on real people and their reactions. I mean that firefighter said "that's it we're outta here, I'm was Scared". Firefighter are some tough dudes, come on they walked into the trade towers when everyone was running out. For one to swallow his nuts and say he was scared, now that's some out of control shit..
As I drove the fire truck closer toward the fire we saw fire trucks parked along the road. Then we noticed the windows were blown completely out of the fire trucks that were approaching when the explosions happened. When we arrived the marshmallow plant next door was burning. We fought that fire as the other Pepcon building was gone. I kept wondering if there were going to be more explosions, but we were fortunate as that did not happen.
I was working at Lake Mead and we heard the explosion. I jumped in the fire truck and headed for Henderson. I met two other guys who jumped in with me near Lake Mead Boulevard. As we went through Henderson there were broken windows in houses and cars everywhere. We drove past the hospital and there were people everywhere outside the hospital who were bleeding and injured. As we drove closer we observed many vehicles along the road that had all the glass broken out of them.
The one from the marshmallow plant reminds me of Mark Twain: "Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Did you know at 2:39 , while Dennis Todd is talking you can hear this:
