  • wow

  • Guys, ever guard does things and calls them different things differently. The first thing that is established in guard is respect. Respect for teammates, and for other guards, you guys should really respect that she is even teaching you.

  • umm....ppl, this IS a flourish. butterflys are when u have both hands on the flag and you follow the same motion but alternate sides left and right repeatedly.......

sooo idk wat yall all talkin bout....

besides, obviously we were all taught differently.....sooooo....u cn call it wat u want to call it, but we were all still taught the same basics...

  • that is NOT a flourish.

  • Ya, thats not a flourish ;) They are slightly more complicated than the one's your doing ;) But thats okay, you mustve been taught that was a flourish, so, not your mistake really :)

  • those r BUTTERFLIES!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=kVCWlvlUNsc

  • In my guard, they're called rowboats

  • Y'know, every time I see colorguard videos, they always have those ugly tape marks on the poles. We never had them at our school b/c A. you should know where to put your hands and B. your left hand should usually be covering the cap at the bottom. I think having black tape on your flag is just distracting.

  • @sepifi that video is not there so you can criticize, brag,or complain about her and her equipment. sorry but your just making yourself look bad :\

  • @aquarose6 If you can't take criticism, then you shouldn't be participating in competitive activities. HOWEVER, nothing I said was insulting or hurtful, and it certainly wasn't bragging. I only posted what I was taught about colorguard which, quite frankly, I think makes everything look much nicer. Also, I'd like to point out that I didn't say ANYTHING about the girl in the video, only the tape marks on the pole and a common way of holding the flag that I personally don't think looks good.

  • @sepifi well see now? that is a nicer way to make an opinion :). however in our marching band/color guard we werent allowed to criticize others. we were taught to be respectful, its more fun that way

  • @aquarose6 There's critiquing and there's criticizing. You can't get better at mastering any artistic skill without critiques. Criticism would be saying only mean, hurtful things about what someone does or how they look. Critiques are meant to be constructive and honest in order to help someone improve. I think it looks much better to not have the black tape on the poles and to have your hand cover the cap. I'm not saying that to be rude or mean, I'm just saying that because it looks nicer. :/

  • in my colorguard world we never do it on the sides

  • @Sophiagurlh who cares. its not a crime to have things different

  • I just want to say that umm... other people learn how to do flourishes differently and i think you should show how to do them to all the rest of us guard members in the u.s. how to do them the way we were taught. thats all

  • thats how we do rifle flourishes but not flag flourishes. we do them differently.

  • how do u catch it... like for reals

  • I am in no way shape or form trying to be mean but I am really frustrated right now because I do not understand. The way you explain is confusing. I am sorry. Can you try to fix it?

  • dont you just hate those ads at the begining ?

  • Sorry Lol In Our Guard Thats Just A 1 handed Butterfly lol ha ha ha

  • @MrHarttattack22 on our guard we dont have dumb named things like "butterflies"

  • @MrHarttattack22 yeah we call it a butterfly in my guard too. we also do 2 hands but really only one hand is necessary

  • @MrHarttattack22 That's not a butterfly.

  • I REALLY WANT TO BE ON MY COLLEGE COLOR GUARD.. BUT I REALLY NEED LIKE A PERSONAL CRASH COURSE ON FLAG ROUTINES...ALL OF THEM!!! I NEED HELP AUDITIONS ARE JUNE 24TH,2010..HELP ME.. EMAIL ME @ ms.buke09@yahoo.com or twiiter me @Ms_Buke and send me some help...personal help someone that will work with me!!!.

  • ok im sry but here on the west cost, if you don't know how to flourish in first day or week you may have a problem and may need professional help

  • i think its awesome that u not only focus on the moves but the details like free hand as well. if only my guard members would do that

  • thoes are windmills where i am

  • I wish you could be our colorguard.winterguard director.

  • we have a move called a flourish but it's different.

  • idk any moves called flourishes. we call those figure eights....we have butterflies and rowboats too, as far as other comments go, and our rowboats aren't arm motions

  • we call those butterflies...same thing though. sometimes we add a one-handed flip on each side of it.

  • clean the free hand.

  • :) i just learned these today in color guard :) took me awhile to get it double time was the hardest

  • ya know you would a lot stronger and less all over the place if you would keep your arm still and straight

  • They aren't rowboats. Rowboats are arm movements.

Flourishes are butterflies. I've never heard the term flourish, but it's actually very easy. You just go down to the left on one, up on two, down on the right on three, and up to right shoulder on four.

  • WE CALL THOSE ROW BOATS

  • I Signed up for color guard but I'm scared now because I don't think I will be able to do this at all. AHHH

  • trust me you will...the person in the video isn't a really good teacher...its a lot easier than is seems.

  • so its basically a figure 8 only to the side?

  • so basically its a wrist isolation in front of you but you are turned to the side...if tht makes sense

  • So everyone has there own names for things, but flourishes are a wrist movement, not an arm movement. Those are usually called butterflies. These videos suck. I mean, they teach you, but incorrectly.

  • we dont do butterflies like that though...... we bring the flag down in front of us from left to right then bring it behind us right to left before bringing it back to the front. what do you call that if not butterfly?

  • We call those butterflies. Flurries are harder than that and you don't pivot.

  • we call those rowboats flourishes we do with rifles only

  • really good i wanted to learn than from long ago thanks

if there will be any hater comment to me let me tell you some thing first

    FUCK YOU.

  • why would any one send you a hate comment ?

  • bcuz people talk shit about every one.

  • Those are called swoops for us. we only do florishes with rifles

  • ok bitch ya mad ampd. u just made up a move and called it flourishes. every guard has their own shit that they call flourishes and honestly ... its just the way the flag moves.. kill yaself

  • Well that's just not nice...

  • why don't you learn how to spell or talk well that is so ghetto I men this is my first year learning English and I write better than you do.

  • its the way people type on computers fuck face. i wouldnt fill out a job application like that. and before you talk shit maybe you should take your own advice. its i mean not i men asshole

  • sorry asshole this is my first year learning the language this is going to be my fourth language that is why I mistake sometimes but thanks to you I learned that people like you are coaled asshole

  • coaled? lmao nope thats not proper english! back to the books!

  • at least I have less mistakes than you do

  • alright shut the fuck up already damn

  • we call them fishtails and we do both sides.

    color guard madison!!!! lolz

  • oke Very easy to learn it this way, i'm also in a guard in the Netherlands! Where are you from?

  • the guard im in calls these flourishes too, but we do them differently than her. we alternate sides when we do flourishes in our spin medley.

  • Please stop posting videos. You should never teach anyone because you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

  • why don't you do it then ?

  • Every guard has different names for moves... Our guard calls those row boats!

  • we call them extensions. =]

  • butterflies are very different indeed. it goes to the side of the dominant hand and behind the head, not to the other side.

  • Haha, these are a form of our Blue Devils. Cept we're like, Blue Devil to the side! *shrug* Different guard, different names.. right?

  • row boats.

...butterflies are TOTALLY different than row boats. lets get it straight.

  • Our flourishes are completely different from this. These are called side sweeps in our guard.

  • How could you call them Figure 8s?! They are nothing like carves, what my guard calls them, they are much more flow-y and soft then "Figure 8s"

  • wow, we call those figure 8s in our guard. our flourishes are done completely behind our head and back, and it makes a full circle.

  • make sure you keep ur body and florish arm still only moving the wrist. This makes it look cleaner and builds muscle

  • Our flourishes are at the middle of the pole. we drop the flag in front of our face then behind our head then bring it back in front. those are butterflies for us.

  • hey i have something to add why dont you guys just accept that diffrent schools call them different things and may do them a little differently get off her back.. because my school calls them flourishes too. soo back off!

  • we call theses butterflies. our flourishes cum up in front our face then drop down behind our heads and shoulders whilst facing foward and not twisting.

  • We did too when I was in school.

  • We call these figure 8's if you don't turn your body...

  • We Call Those Rowing The Boat And Our Flourishes Completely Different

  • I'd like to say...prove your greater then her is just not the way to say that.

This is also incorrect. Just saying. Not like I know anything though...oh wait.

  • thats really just an easier row. can you please pick up the correct names bc i noticed you somehow thing that everything is called flourish.

  • I have one question ... What flew off while you were flouishing?

  • for those who criticize her.. shut your mouth or post your own videos. prove you're greater than her..

  • My guard calls them flutters, flourishes are alot harder, and you dont pivot in flourishes...

  • Row boats use two hands. Cos you dont a row an actual boat with one hand. THESE are called butterflies.

  • Yeah i agree with aleshafaceyo and the other person

    and we call them butterflys

  • We Call Those Row Boats......

  • At our school we call them "rows"

  • talk about how rude you can be!! she is trying to be helpful for people not for people to criticize her!!

and by the way this helped me lots
