Hear Egyptian Lover on a Modern Rock Station of all places... On KITS in SF in the mid 80's. It was mixed between 2 other Mod Rock dance classics. Even BACK then, EL was breaking dance barriers.
Yes, breaking barriers for sure!! A TRUE talent. Didn't discover E.L. till about '89 (just 14) but on my dance team at that time, we performed to MANY of his jams. I'm STILL crazy about him!!! Love you, "G.J. the DJ"
Egyptian Lover and The Unknown DJ are the forever The Greatest!!!!! These songs could come on in a club today and people will still go crazy!!!!!!! love it!!!!!
Never heard of it. And I knew a lot in those days. But it sounds too modern.. more new age 80's (made in second half of the 80's). So I looked it up, it comes from his 1996 album 'Piramix'.
I'm 42 years old and grew-up on Egyptian Lover as a teenager and in my 20's religiously. Wikipedia has their DATES wrong on 2 of his albums, they show "Get Into It" as 1998, and "Pyramix" as 1996, they're WAY OFF, I bought "Get Into It" in March 1990 just before my 23rd birthday, and bought "Pyramix" just after Christmas 1993, so unless The Lover Re-Issued those albums later I don't know. I still have the Pyramix cassette tape and it says 1993 right on it.
Yeah this song "The Lover" as well as many other older songs he put on the "Pyramix" album, but "The Lover" was originally on the album "One Track Mind" 1986.
VeryGeneric1, this is a fantastic post!!! Been lookin for E.L.'s shit off and on for couple of years on youtube. Forgot how f&(&*#@g good this guy was on the techno and synth. You have got to upload more!! There is alot of old school funk fans out there that appreciate good jams! This is da sheeet!! thx.

Absolutely EPIC. Great job. Nothing better than Egyptian Lover. OWNS MY SOUL. Always brought the house down to the dance floor.
