  • What a fascinating woman. She is a true star.

  • B.D. Hyman is such a bitch.

  • Love you Bette! I don't like women's Lib either.

  • I love her boots, they are so beautiful.

  • Love her. A true STAR!

  • It always hurts my heart, these interviews where she speaks so lovingly about BD. Maybe she wasn't the greatest mother in the world, but is any woman? Bette gave BD everything, she wanted for nothing. What a way to repay her by breaking her heart.

  • @bdavis4life Perhaps...but you are seeing their lives from the outside in. You saw nothing of what may have gone on behind closed doors.

  • She was So Funny...she had a "naughty" sense of humor too....Oh I would have loved to have sat around with her at a party with some drinks...I am sure that would have been a real hoot! I am so happy this interview was posted here....I never get tired of watching it.

  • I have always loved Betty Davis' acting, and after I watched her interview I love the person even more. She's delightfully unpretentious.

  • @mjwells100 All the best actresses are unpretentious. Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman and Judy Garland - all great actresses and very down to earth.

  • She is just lovely, just beautiful. A truly wonderful woman.

  • 1971 was the year & she's one of a kind.

  • What year is this interview from?

  • God, she was fabulous...straight, uncompromising, a complete original! She was the real deal.

  • Women's lib has opened many doors but has closed others. There is a price to pay for anything gained.

  • Wow she sure smokes alot!

  • boy....she didn't play. Candid as hell!!! love her.

  • According to wikipedia the beautiful daughter she speaks of unfairly wrote a tell-all book that according to friends and even an ex-husband was an unfair portrayal. Barbara Davis (B.D.) had recently become a born-again Christian and their relationship deteriorated. Of course we don't know what Bette Davis was really like as a mother. She proclaims several times the devotion to her craft took precedent over all things so who knows. But it is a tragic shame for all involved. She died brokenhearted

  • what a horrible title for such a great video

  • @ucha10 It should be Bette Davis comments on suspension clauses.

  • I miss Dick Cavett. These days the talk show hosts are self regarding showoffs. This is a gentleman interviewing a great lady

  • Imagine talking to Bette one-on-one in a restaurant. I am sure you would let it all hang out, the stories she must know behind the scenes. I am sure she doesn't tell everything on talk shows like this.

    RIP, Bette doll.

  • Was a little hurt at first when I saw this clip and she clearly states her non belief in womens liberation. And then I thought about what a silly goose she was for the attentions of a man. Whether she admitted it or not she was one of the pioneers of that movement by her actions and her bravery

  • @Bettedavislover1005 oh get a grip please..

  • I' love to see Bette and Marlene together. Weren't they friends??

  • bette davis inspires me so much...

women can be powerful and confident and ladylike.

  • What chemistry between these two. The lines are priceless.

It's so refreshing to hear someone who knows who she is.

I think her tribute to her daughter is touching. It's hard to 'act' that.

Before Nike, there was Davis.....Just 'DO IT"

I think most actresses should take notes on this...

    Bravo Bette.

  • Wasn't she fun? But above all else, she was CLASS. Thanks for the post.

  • The thing I admire most about Bette is that she was (is) a little 4 letter word that most Hollywood trash is afraid to be, is that tiny word...I call it REAL..Everyone tries so hard to stuff their new movie, produst, clothing line or what ever it may be that their making a slimy penny on into the media...No one is REAL anymore, for god sake half of Hollywoof is made up of cgi!!! REALLY? Since when is a blue freak named Avatar a celeb? Something that isn't even real won awards? Once more..Really?

  • @MissGarland18 it's even worse in pop culture. look at the current state of mainstream music...hell, it isn't even music anymore. It's image. And it annoys me that people really can't see past the artificiality and superficiality of today's pop stars to realize that they ARE NOT about the music or the fans or whatever it is they preach about, like equality and what not. They're about image and they use the profits from thier image to do the same crap over and over again

  • @MissGarland18 and instead of writing songs which reflect who they are, they write silly dance songs and turn around and use the music video as well as fashion as a way of giving their music some kind of concept or some substance. And people call it genius or art. While technology has helped entertainment, something someone posted on youtube never gets old: technology has progressed forward but humans haven't. People are lazy now letting technology do all the work; lip synching & everything else

  • @chilvari...Amen to both of your comments. I am one for sure who will not convert to all of the so called, "pop culture" of today. I really can't stand the way people look up to who they look up to today. The last time I checked, the exploitation of untalanted losers is not my idea of quality entertainment. What we had when Bette Davis was alive was a hand full of precious sand and we've let it slip through our fingers...

  • Delightful...absolutely delightful...what a woman. Wish we had people like her today. Marvelous, simply mah-va-less!

  • it's a shame tht her daughter B.D. had to pull a Christina Crawford

  • Damn, I miss this bitch. :(

  • i adore bette davis!

  • stop saying bitch bitches!

  • "You mean you've liberated alot of women..." I love that remark...then that smirk...I don't give a damn what age she is she's flat out sexy...No it don't mean looks, I mean that attitude and that wit...THAT to me is sexy...A timeless classic woman here people, eat it up while you can because today, we are losing it...I think we've already lost it because now people think Miley Cyrus is a class act...Ha!!! I call it bull shit!!! And so would Bette!!!

  • @MissGarland18 well said and THANK YOU for that. I just can't see anyone today to compare with a class act like Davis.

  • @werentthosethedays, well your welcome, and there's no one who could ever hold a candle to this lady!!! =)

  • lol at 4:11.

  • she's so funny and I love her laugh!

  • Bombast!

  • I love this interview! Her smoking...timeless

  • haha Dick had a huge crush on Ms Davis!

  • I like the way hollywood didn't try to be a secret back then. The earlier Actors and Actresses told everything how it was and how it wasn't. Who they don't like or didn't get along with. Now the biggest thing in hollywood is keeping everything a secret and the media makes money trying to pry an type of info out of them. Now paparazzi are paid millions to not only get a photo but a reaction or info out of them about Hollywood. They should be as vocal as the past actors then they wouldnt b hounded

  • fascinating woman.

  • As an artist I agree with her remarks about how hard it is to have a partner who will tolerate you being an artist. And how dedicated we are and why anyone would want to deal with it. so true!!!

  • Empress Of The American Screen

  • She is tough. I love her.

  • watch at 4:11 it is so HILARIOUS Dick Cavett gets so frustrated trying to get a word in!

  • If only she knew how her daughter would stab her in the back!

  • what she says about her mum? I unfortunately don't know much about her kids...

  • Dressed in black with the Cartier brooch finished with the hat. She oozed class and had such wisdom and intelligence.I could listen to her all day she really knows her stuff.Imagine in the 1930,s and 40,s a WOMAN having the balls to speak her mind and challenge established systems,it was un heard of!!!and kick ass(and boy) could she kick ass.She was and remains as good as it gets in acting and as a person she is just a diamond-rare,precious and valuable.Miss D you are the buisness xxx

  • @bannon1000 I agree, she is such an eloquent, entertaining speaker. She just oozes class and intelligence.

Most classic stars did, actually. Is it just that their interviews were less staged or people now days just less articulate?

  • @toothbrush55 No i think that they had it tougher and had to be more "True to themselves" and today they have managers for every aspect of what they do back then they did not.Take Whoopi Goldberg a great actress especially in comedy but has various managers managing every aspect of everything, total of 14 managers.Bette Davis was a survivor of the system and had to fight and she just was speaking from experience, wisdom and intelligence.....They just do not make them like that anymore just don't

  • @bannon1000 your ghey...

  • @xanthoxylaceae And you're an illiterate moron.

  • Autograph hounds! They're not people!!

  • Such a lovely woman and actress! I really hope something ANYTHING will happen and that old Hollywood class and talent will come back!

  • The reason the actresses today are such boring personalities is because they are only in film or TV is because of their looks and not their talent. Veyr Few have the magic personality that the old Hollywood Stars had. The Studio system may have been rigid and harsh, but they Made movies that can never be made today because of the lack of talent in Hollywood. A different world now.. The "non" studio system today produces few few classic films.

  • "I couldn't MIND an HOUR of what like that was like for B.D." - oh Bette, don't speak too soon!

  • Bette is the tops

  • bweb6, YOU AND BE BOTH!!

  • Todays actresses appear so dull during interviews in comparison to Bette. I could listen to her stories all day.

  • @bweb6 agreed! Celebrities now in days are afraid of being interesting and tend to be safe. Boring!

  • bitch? because she's strong and independent?

    you're an idiot.

  • This woman has such wisdom and intelligence. If you watch this 20 times each time you see or pick up something else.I would of loved to of been around her i bet she was fun.A TRUE LEGEND.Bette Davis was and remains a rare breed even today.

  • She is the BOMB!!

  • Thanks so much for uploading this interview.

  • *cigarette

  • can someone please answer me why Dick says to Bette "can I get that for you or that affends you?"

like when a guy lights a cigerette for a woman it means a woman can't do things on her own or what?

  • Yeah. The need for a man to light a woman's cigarette, open the door for them, pull out their chair, or what have you, was(and still is, depending on who you talk to) considered an insult mainly because men do not do these things for other men. But Bette was cool, she saw it as courtesy.

  • It was still in fashion and acceptable for men to do this then. it was not unheard of--is now sad to say.

  • Bette Davis<333

  • Wow! How sexy is Bette!!!! Maybe not a "conventional beauty" but man! Sexy is a whole other thing!

  • So true!

  • Agree! Loving her laugh.

  • Interesting...she speaks so highly of her daughter in this vid. I heard that they stopped speaking to eachother once the daughter's book came out and that Bette didn't talk to her for the rest of her life. Sad. =(

  • Yes - in Bette's autobiography she says the same thing - that the marriage was bad, but she got her precious daughter from it. That same daughter sadly wrote a vicious book when she got older. I think BD's book came out in the 80s. I read excerpts and nothing in there that BD griped about seemed that bad to me. Maybe she was bit spoiled. On the positive side, Bette had a personal assistant in her final years that she said took great care of her and 'was like a daughter.'

  • I love her laugh. Such a wonderful soul.

  • Genius.

  • I NEVER tire of watching the segments of this Bette Davis interview....

  • Agreed! I could watch them over and over again! :)

  • *Sigh* What a woman, who looked like she would have perfectly fitted my personality and temperament.

    "I'm not woman's lib"

    "I can't marry a man who can't support me"

Oh Bette, it's too bad our paths never met. Maybe in another life.

  • My Grandmother and Bette looked so similar smoked the same way same mout and nose as well. I love her as a dramatic Actress. too bad there aren't more like her in hollywood. Todays actresses really aren't like the real Hollywood actresses of that era.

  • My Nana Lucy loved Bette Davis. I remember when her movies were on TV we all would call and tell her Bette was on TV and she would turn it on. They had the same type eyes and smoked cigarettes. So whenever I see Bette I think about my Grandmother very fondly. My Grandmother was such a wonderful woman. I onder what kind of cigs Bette was smoking on this show filter or non filter? My Nana smoked Pall Mall Cigarettes and Chesterfield King all non filter.

  • Wow

    23

  • LOVE her laugh!! So charming and wicked. She's so lovely. Hate hearing her talk about BD also. I don't see how she could break her heart that way. I bet Bette was a lovely mother and BD is nuts! Miss Davis you are a Queen my dear.

  • I can't handle hearing her talk about B.D.

To think about what B.D. later did, breaking her heart like she did...

Anyway, this is an amazing woman and there will NEVER be anyone else like her.

  • She's got some great insight on life. Wish there was more.

  • like Morrie Schwartz from Mitch Albom's book

  • Icbrec, I couldn't agree with you more!!!! She could of been doing such good things...It really is a shame...The world lost a jewel when she passed...She and a few others like Johnny Carson and Lucy just to name a few made the world a better place....Btw,, Her daughter BD is such a religous nut....check her out on you tube....It's hilarious!!!

  • "you mean you've liberated a lot of women" lol she's so funny , and really articulate too :-)

  • god i miss these days, Smoking on television, things wer better

  • Oh no I'm not Woman's Lib. Awesome

  • Comment removed

  • How shameful and unforgiveable that Bette's daughter turned spiteful on her mother.....what a little bitch!

  • I could sit and listen to her stories for hours and hours! Thanks for the post! Miss you Bette! XX

  • B.D. Hyman - one nasty backstabbing little bitch!

  • i love Bette, she was the real deal, actresses today will never live up to her or anyone else of her era.

  • What year is this from?

  • 1971

  • Thanks for posting these - surely the finest screen actress there has ever been? I always think its a shame that nobody around this time came running to her with a great script - she was still such a dynamic figure.

  • The play she is talking about is "Follies".

  • Funny she says she's not "Woman's Lib"...but she actually was one of the most influential independent Liberated woman

    in the 20th centery

  • "Funny she says she's not "Woman's Lib"...but she actually was one of the most influential independent Liberated woman

    in the 20th centery"

Ah, but you forget: she was a woman. :-)

  • She is an 'independent' woman as many women were throughout history. Being a 'feminist' is something else entirely.

  • She's just being flip, I think.

  • Great! My class will love learning if clauses and things! THXXXXXXX

  • It's amazing to see an actress talk so intelligently. Compare this to Cameron Diaz on Oprah.

  • Cameron Diaz is an actress?

  • Ha :)

  • good question!

  • Cameron Diaz is a ditz and an embarrassment to her gender.

  • I think Diaz is a beer chugging, athletic 'guy' trapped in a woman's body.
