  • Does anyone know anything about the painting on the album cover? Very fitting to the album.

  • Wow, what a treat to hear this. Somehow this album missed me and now I'm going to search on line for a "hard copy." Great stuff! But then it's Mingus and expected.

  • im so feelin' panera bread right now

  • now i feel like if i were in a jungle!

  • wow

  • mingus is purely sigh.

  • it sounds very busy, a bit too salty for my tastes, best had with a martin whilst high on crack.

  • Jimmy Knepper must have tacet in this track but is great in Jelly Roll, see there.

This tune reminds me vaguely in its architecture to Love for sale. I feel these tunes were never written down, just taught from the piano, then the different interpretations added to the artistic color. Early Ellington style.

  • Top stuff.

  • Dont sound like no birdcall i ever heard

  • @JustinDanger the title's referring to Charlie "Bird" Parker and his bebop style.

  • @mistlok no it's not. mingus was quoted as saying, "It wasn’t supposed to sound like Charlie Parker. It was to sound like birds – the first part.”

  • One of the greatest records ever made.Ever.By anyone. At any time.Any genre, any musical category. This album remains on my "Desert Island Disc" list, over 40 years since I first encountered it,even after hundreds of listenings. It represents the very Best of jazz, which means the very best of the American spirit. See--you can be very patriotic and very hip at the same time.
