i have 2004 and 2005. I thought those were the best ones for the PS2. I just bought Madden 12 and while the TV-style presentation is pretty cool, I don't really like the ultra-techincal gameplay where you really have to study opponents' strategies almost as much as the real players do just to be able to understand what's going on. They screwed around with the putting offensive players in motion mechanic and defensive alignments too. They should've left that simple and usable.

Madden 03 was the best all around even though the defense was suspect. Madden 04 is when EA tried to overcompensate for the weak defense in '03 and made "Fear the D" feature and overpowered the cpu defensive A.I... NFL 2K5 manhandled EA and it actually was 2K's downfall with the purchase of the license simply because they were too good and Madden would've went into extinction like MVP Baseball did and that horrible NBA Live.

I think the problem is the engines they use for the next gen consoles, gameplay wise Madden 10 on the PS2 is way better than Madden 10 on PS3/Xbox 360, they should use that engine from previous gen consoles on next gen consoles, 2k did it with APF 2K8 why cant Madden do it ?

I've always said 04 was my favorite even now. I'd say 2010 is second and we'll go way back to 96 as my third (gotta love the training camp) but what I liked about 04 was that it seemed to flow so smoothly. the running animations seemed so smooth as where 05 on seemed to sort of slow down a bit. I've heard people say the player models in 04 seemed a bit too cartoonish. I beg to differ. If anything I'd say from 05 on the players seemed a little too square.

This game is severly flawed and EA has went on record lying about how they would have weekly roster updates, how they could "easily" upgrade and adjust gameplay via updates, and haven't done a thing yet. I'm with you man. Most of the true Madden fans that have played for the last 10 years seem to agree that '05 was the best. The Hit Stick was introduced to go with playmaker. They tightened the defense up. The scores and stats were realistic. Above all, it was INSANELY FUN.
