Many styles going way back put the focus elsewhere. Punk/Grunge/Reggae/Metal.. Many vocalists in those genres have below average voices.

The Arcade Fire is extremely talented.

It just isn't folksy AM pop/rock & it isn't supposed to be.

Even from that genre the beloved Nick Drake did not have a golden voice.

He was one of the best ever.
