The tanooki suit owned. Best in game. Could turn to a statue and let enemies or murderous bombs, bullets, enemies, and the like pass right through. Could turn to stone and land on enemies that normally can't be stomped. It also had all the powers of the normal racoon suit (tanuki's are a species of raccoon in japan). Frog suits were okay for underwater, usually preferred fire flower there.

@dinitis I strongly disagree. Hammer suit was awesome for bosses/minibosses (usually instagib). But overall, the ability to be temporarily immune to all attacks (great for gun stages), have a tail to smack objects, the ability to stomp otherwise unstompable enemies, hover, and fly makes the Tanooki easily the best. Just tried the Tanooki suit on world 8. Did well, the hammer suit on the other hand didn't really shine until I went down the silver pipe.

Like a lot of people are saying, you have to use the frog suit under water, otherwise it'll only slow you down. The suit that allows you to turn into a statue is called the tanooki suit. It gives Mario the same abilities as the raccoon leaf in addition to giving him a way of momentarily hiding from enemies

I think this game is easier in the original. Why? If you die on the last level for example you have to play the whole world all over again (only 3 levels though). Here you got infinite continiues!

The "tanookie" suit which allows you to turn into a statue is great for hiding from enemies, plus it has all the abilities the raccoon leaf gives you

Ah old school Mario...I grew up on these games. I love the New Super Mario Bros Wii because it's back to the old school types of games. I tried Galaxy, but it was way too easy and I just got bored. I remember playing this game with my cousin and aunt when I would stay at their house during the day because it was cheaper than an actual daycare. Good times...good times...

The Frog Suit isn't useless at all. If you use it in the water, you have far greater control over swimming than with normal Mario. And the Tanooki Suit isn't useless either. Turning into stone prevents damage (though you must stand still), and it has the power of Raccoon Mario.
