  • I've always loved this song. Johnny Mercer's lyrics were among his best. This song has one of the most beautiful "bridge" melodies ever written, beginning with "Fate seemed to pull the strings..." I first saw this film in a double feature with "Lillies of the Field" starring Sidney Poitier. Perhaps the greatest double-feature I have ever seen. Charade had everything: Beautiful Parisian scenery, costuming, witty dialogue and a gripping Hitchcock-like suspense story.

  • @dgnoela Just seeing this on a cinema screen would be a dream, never mind as a double feature...

  • This is the fare you used to hear on Easy Listening/Beautiful Music stations. Absolute gem by Mancini and the chorus.

  • I have great memories, although I was quite young, of going to see this film at the magnificent State movie palace in Sydney, Australia. Films like this have long since gone but fortunately the State survives. In those days the characters were still real people even if the situations weren't - these days everythig seems fake, especially the so called actors!!

  • This song is so...dark.

  • One of the coolest movie credit sequences ever. And such a beautiful song too. Of course, pretty much anything Mancini made was beautiful...

  • what kind of Jazz is this?

  • @UberWolfGeist I'd say it was a waltz...

  • @SirBasildeBrush Hello, I was wondering what kind of jazz The Pink Panther theme song is . Could you answer me? Thanks in advance.

  • @Guitardreams182 It's rather unique, but maybe leaning towards "lounge".

  • @SirBasildeBrush it's Henry Mancini style. :)

  • @UberWolfGeist this is not Jazz .... it is contemporary music for the mid 60's... big band musi as they used to call it... best music ever made.... back in those days there was Big bands and they played music like this ... it was truly historical...

  • Oh my, I have heard this in ages. Thank you for uploading, and thank you "Hank," for all the music you gave us!

  • We have truly been blessed in our lifetime to have shared such beautiful memories with those that have crossed our paths while listening to this very talented composer from my home town of Pennsylvania. We miss you Henry........ Never another like you..... a truly gifted man........

  • Henry mancini is the true legend of all time. Thank you so much for posting such an awsom song

  • This video has a wonderful feel to it.. so.. retro daaalink.

  • great composer. great tune. mancini was always captivating.top draw!!!!!!!!! great posting too.

  • @spadge1able Thanks for listening

  • This song was nominated Oscar best song for 1963 but lost to "Call me irresponsible" from the movie Papa's Delicate Condition. There were other great movie theme songs nominated that year too - "Its a mad mad mad mad world" from the movie with the same title and "More" from the movie Mondo Cane.

  • @wyip52 interesting, didn't know that

  • wow really great! haunting stuff dude

  • It´s so beautiful. I love that the music to speak to love. I love forever.

  • The Fantomas version of ths is unconventional, but I quite enjoy it.

  • @Jumperkballs certainly different...

  • Why do I want to hear this song when I'm in the Demon Guest House from Dawn of Sorrow?

  • Sadly, you only hear a bit of this version in the film, under the scene where Grant and Hepburn are cruising down the Seine (and she orders the enormous dinner).

  • @The1962driftingaway know it well.

  • Also theres a rap song with this in it...

suga free what a hit we made

  • This is the theme to one of the greatest Suspense/romance/comedy/action movies ever made. Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn "Charade." Check out the trailer on YouTube. This movie is what real movie making is all about.

  • @dog1701 Seconded!

  • Up until I thought that Ray Conniff did this song.Very nice song indeed

  • @generationll Conniff's verson is great as well, although this is the version for me.

  • 85 geniuses pressed the right button, 2 idiots pressed the wrong one.

  • @key2kingdom I see it's now 3 idiots...!

  • haha :o)

  • @SirBasildeBrush 4 idiots!

  • A masterful composer such as Mancini and, in my humble opinion, the greatest lyricist ever, Mercer, well together.......Magic!!

  • Great music to release the stress!

How thankful we have to be,that musicians like Henry Mancini have a left a legacy of their work for us to enjoy.

  • @franklindavid Great music for a great film.

  • wow... I love this movie !!!!!

  • No thing but love, love, and love for this music and its movie (of the same title)! I love Audrey Hepburn, I love her person, her fashion style, her fashion sense, her personality, her looks, her attitude, her every thing... For me, Audrey Hepburn is the woman of all women... She represents the apex of true femininity, class, elegance, style, and sophistication... ♥ ♥ ♥

  • @roelallen I'd have to agree with you!

  • Great American composer!

He has left a legasy of his scores in film and television, for generations to enjoy.

  • Big Mancini fan since 1968. Thanks for the posting.

  • @MrPolkajohn you suck

  • Holy crap this is beautiful.

  • the turkish version named saklanbaç sing sung by ajda pekkan

  • Thanks, I just took a listen.

  • I`m listening to this right now instead of Glenn Beck........

  • Good choice.

  • @timba58 that's funny. me too!

  • my bad, its "what a hit we make" by mac dre not "oh what a hit..."

  • we in US say charay-de too. look up "Oh What a Hit we Make" by Mac Dre for a remix of this song

  • A haunting meloncholy tune, gentle, light, almost a whisper.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the elegant description.

  • this isn't the original version that went with the film titles. kinda misleading, sirbaselidebrush :o(

just for that, i'm not putting any mayo on your hoagie tonight.

  • I could have, but it's already posted a zillion times. Something different for the discerning YTuber.

  • This is better than the original film version. Thank you!

  • Delighted to hear that, thanks.

  • Superb arrangement from a time when romantic melancholy could still be found in music and film.

    Gone but never forgotten.

  • A favourite tune, and a favourite film.

  • ".....love left the masquerade......".

  • They (US) say Charah-de, we say Charay-de (UK).

  • i tend to disagree...

  • Beautiful! Brings me back to my childhood...

  • Enchanting music along with evergreen Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. Thanks for sharing.

  • Great music from a great movie with one of the most beautiful women ever.

  • Such a Beautiful Song!!! 5*s+ Thanks Basil....Anita...

  • Mancini was a marvel, and those opening credits are pure perfection. Together so atmospheric.

  • Classy, technicolour, Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn. Doesn't get much better than that.

  • Music the way it should be!

    cRAP is just that!

  • Beautiful!

  • Truly beautiful!

  • at 0.40 that looks like a game for the commodore 64

  • sir brush-in 1963 i was in the 1st grade when this cameout. i still love this song. thank you for playin this. now i am 52-wishin i was in the 1st grade. getting old is not fun.

  • My first musical memory of 1st grade is 'Puff The Magic Dragon' ! Thanks for listening.

  • Get yourself a hot chick and go out in style!!

  • Beautiful theme from the movie of the same title. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks. I've added an easy click-for-stereo link top right to help you enjoy it even more!

  • Mancini is a hero of mine! Never heard of this film even though I love this era!

    Thanks for uploading.

  • Well you've got a treat to look forward to! One of my all-time favourite films.

  • This movie has passed me by. I don't think I've seen it.

  • I'm jealous - it's a treat you still have to look forward to!!

I've replaced the actual film version with this stereo track, which is a little different.

  • Almost a year have passed and I didn't see the movie... but I've heard the tune before...

  • You need to get yourself a video club subscription....and get "Vetlanda Goes Hula Hoop: out at this same time for me.

  • great song

  • I love this version which is played when they're on the dinnerboat on the Seine. Was there ever a more gorgeous but sweet and silly couple captured on film? And does a music score exist that could possibly be better than this song in its many incarnations throughout the movie? Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks nauort. I love it to, and Mrs SirBdeB. In answer to your question, there is no better romantic music score to a film than this - it's perfection.
