I've always loved this song. Johnny Mercer's lyrics were among his best. This song has one of the most beautiful "bridge" melodies ever written, beginning with "Fate seemed to pull the strings..." I first saw this film in a double feature with "Lillies of the Field" starring Sidney Poitier. Perhaps the greatest double-feature I have ever seen. Charade had everything: Beautiful Parisian scenery, costuming, witty dialogue and a gripping Hitchcock-like suspense story.
I have great memories, although I was quite young, of going to see this film at the magnificent State movie palace in Sydney, Australia. Films like this have long since gone but fortunately the State survives. In those days the characters were still real people even if the situations weren't - these days everythig seems fake, especially the so called actors!!
@UberWolfGeist this is not Jazz .... it is contemporary music for the mid 60's... big band musi as they used to call it... best music ever made.... back in those days there was Big bands and they played music like this ... it was truly historical...
We have truly been blessed in our lifetime to have shared such beautiful memories with those that have crossed our paths while listening to this very talented composer from my home town of Pennsylvania. We miss you Henry........ Never another like you..... a truly gifted man........
This song was nominated Oscar best song for 1963 but lost to "Call me irresponsible" from the movie Papa's Delicate Condition. There were other great movie theme songs nominated that year too - "Its a mad mad mad mad world" from the movie with the same title and "More" from the movie Mondo Cane.
Sadly, you only hear a bit of this version in the film, under the scene where Grant and Hepburn are cruising down the Seine (and she orders the enormous dinner).
This is the theme to one of the greatest Suspense/romance/comedy/action movies ever made. Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn "Charade." Check out the trailer on YouTube. This movie is what real movie making is all about.
No thing but love, love, and love for this music and its movie (of the same title)! I love Audrey Hepburn, I love her person, her fashion style, her fashion sense, her personality, her looks, her attitude, her every thing... For me, Audrey Hepburn is the woman of all women... She represents the apex of true femininity, class, elegance, style, and sophistication... ♥ ♥ ♥
sir brush-in 1963 i was in the 1st grade when this cameout. i still love this song. thank you for playin this. now i am 52-wishin i was in the 1st grade. getting old is not fun.
I love this version which is played when they're on the dinnerboat on the Seine. Was there ever a more gorgeous but sweet and silly couple captured on film? And does a music score exist that could possibly be better than this song in its many incarnations throughout the movie? Thanks for posting.
Thanks nauort. I love it to, and Mrs SirBdeB. In answer to your question, there is no better romantic music score to a film than this - it's perfection.

This is the fare you used to hear on Easy Listening/Beautiful Music stations. Absolute gem by Mancini and the chorus.
