  • One of most favorite and fun songs to listen to.

  • Your parasol is juicy boy XD Satchmo!!!!

  • Apparently his horn has the weirdest boner..

  • @studiomagic yeah I caught the "it looks like rain" part but the part I was referring to was before that. The line he says before "it looks like rain" -- thanks for your response

  • Does anyone know what the guy on the piano is screaming in the beginning??

  • @newt513 it looks like rain

  • I have no interest in ever meeting the 43 people who, for some reason, dislike this wonderful clip. It warms my heart every time I watch it..

  • Great Music!! Two of the greatest ever!!!

  • What year was this in?

  • Maestro!

  • vaya....!!!!!!!!....

  • great video

  • When Louis wipes his face....it is mentioned in interviews of others that Dizzy actually spit a bunch when he said "Parasol". Dizzy is known to spritz (spittle) when he says some words. This is why Louis wipes his face saying "Your Parasol is JUICY".

  • :)

  • happy birth day dizzy

  • Happy B-day, Dizzy!

  • happy birthday dizzy

  • btw, check Dizzy's virtuoso protegé Arturo Sandoval, in action:

  • @roto1892 then you'll have to check clifford brown, tal farlow, elvin jones, art tatum, lionel hampton and buddy rich too. man, the list will keep on growing lol

  • @mudskipper No need for all that fussin'. Just get your prot-amphibian limbs and rudimentary lungs over to my channel and check out my band's new video, "Modern Jazz Clinic". You'll never want to listen to Pelvis Jones, Fart Tatum OR Lionel Hamchops ever again.

    Go ahead now, git goin'...

  • two generations found

  • Aw, man. . .the gods are in the house. . .

  • What the f...

    That trumpet was boss

  • Can anyone pleese tell me a website or anything they know about dizzy gillespie. I have a 5 page report about him

  • @PrivetKaboose Hi. I know he was a Bahá'í. That is something you could mention about his private life in your report. Good luck!

  • Fabulous! Great great musicians. Too bad they are gone! The band in heaven is swingin' and there is a jazz mansion with wonderful artists.

  • I'm only 21, and I feel sorry for the youth who have not experience this work of art.

  • Gillespie grimaces remember me Groucho

  • I'm gonna get a Dizzy Gillespie trumpet so i don't have to hold mine so high when i'm marching! But for Jazz Band im gonna stick with my Holton MF Horn!

  • from which year is this performance? ah...great music...

  • It don't get no better then that I love it.

  • It makes me sick how people dont know anything about REAL music. This...this is REAL music

  • @pg13superstar

Just enjoy it mate. Dont worry so much about what other people enjoy. If everybody liked the same stuff the world would be a pretty colourless place. Thats the whole point of music. Know what I mean?

  • @Ononokpono Too true

  • @pg13superstar

You can't define real music. Sure this is a style and piece of music you like but you can't define it as definitively real.

  • espetaCULAR dois genios do JAZZ.

  • I'd give my right right ball to bring good old Louis back!!

  • is this where the line was drawn between the old dixieland and the new bebop sound the young cats were swingin in that day?

  • Very good....

  • Exquisito

  • Two real jazz legends. Just awesome

  • Hey! That's Jackie Gleason stepping in behind Dizzy and Louis at the end of the video. Jackie Gleason was a great lover of jazz and music in general and was a fine musician in his own right.

  • 00:23 It may be small it may be big -suggestive piano-

  • ahhh the good old days not some gueeto fist pumping faggits even though im 15 ik what good music is

  • 36 people got smacked by the Umbrella Man.

  • This is rap avant la lettre

  • Ol' Sachmo plays again!

  • can anyone tell me why the bell is curved up? I assume its so he doesnt have to keep it up all that much cus i know in marching it hurts my neck holding it up all the time, and so its getting projected

  • @ltownrocker133 It apparently changed the tone of the sound in the indtrument, so he designed it that way,

  • @Me2times,

@ltownrocker133 its because at that time there werent monitors and he couldnt hear him self very good so on that way the sound arrived better to his hears.. these are Dizzy words. Not mine.

  • check out Dizzy cheeks, he was designed for this

  • @igadixila He actually had permanent face damage from playing trumpet how he did. So he designed himself that way. Not necessarily a good thing, but it worked for him.

  • the people in the world not andenstand, the solution is music

  • @ahaaaaaaaaah Are you serious?

  • if i could bring back any musician from the dead, dizzy is at my #1 spot, God he's so motivating to me

  • One of the earliest broadcast instances of "gimme five" that I'm aware of, too.

Great stuff. We should all see more of this.

  • and Chuck Wayne on guitar.

  • and Chuck Wayne on guitar.

  • 36 mental midgets and counting.

  • Some day if I half the chops of either of those guys, I know I will have spent my life well

  • Man I wish they would have made a whole fucking album like this

  • @dagangstah They did: it's called "School Days" and it has this tune on it.

  • What is there not to Love about this? Something in my Brain starts to groove when I listen to Bebop Jazz. One of the best anti depressants on the market. Fantastic!!

  • thumbs up for the piano guy.

  • Wow...the last scene with Dizzy , Louis and Jackie Gleason together.....3 legends.

  • they're almost as good as justin beiber and lady gaga

  • @guyinfl99 don't name these guys with those legends, I can imagine Dizzy and Louis shouting 'we are not worthy'.

  • @guyinfl99 haha those two just subscribed under many different names just to dislike this song !

  • Looks like he went to take a viagra and accidently spat it into his trumpet?!

  • LOVE IT

  • absolutely love the "bent trumpet"

  • I love seeing this....back when us Black folks had something "positive" to say in music - both verbally & musically.

  • @JazzyZenBrotha

    Hey Brotha,

I saw James Brown several times; Stevie Wonder; Little Richard; Aretha Franklin (I am Italian and I brought my son to hear my fave (then, RIP JB) musicians--My son introduced me to Lil' Wayne, and I introduced him to Grand Master Flash....oh, we also saw Prince. Word.

Word. Peace.....but....I know what you mean!!!! oh, and Ray Charles 2 X!!!

  • @JazzyZenBrotha it still exists, not in the mainstream perhaps

  • @JazzyZenBrotha Very true but unfortunately musicians like Louis and Dizzy had to enter through the rear doors of the venues they played due to their color. Back then, the black people were not equal citizens.

  • Comment removed

  • @JazzyZenBrotha we often look back at these nostalgic moments and think it was all good but these times had it's own problems too.

  • @ponchoko - Every time period has its problems. That's a given. But I'm more concerned with (1) the positive messages and (2) the fact that these brotha's know how to actually play an instrument & (3) they put in the hours/days/years of study & discipline to play those instruments.

  • @JazzyZenBrotha You go JazzyZenBrothaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

  • @JazzyZenBrotha I'm white, but I agree with this. I think that there is a stigma around african americans in music today. I really love the old jazz and blues, it helps any problem.

  • @DJTripsixx - I'm glad you agree. Great minds think alike.

  • @JazzyZenBrotha get a grip

  • @contactkeithstack - I already have. That's why I made a such a truthful statement. Hopefully you will take your own advice. Have a nice day

  • @JazzyZenBrotha Way to nourish the image of black society.. 'Gangsta rap' and such isn't the only music black people are contributing nowadays, you know? Damn stereotypes..

  • Comment removed

  • @JazzyZenBrotha You never specified this genre either, you just said 'music', and the first musical genre that comes to anyone's mind (including those who liked your comment) when criticising black music is modern rap. If that wasn't your intention you would have formulated your sentence differently.

I'm not black but I see a lot of talent in most of contemporary black music, just like any other race. There's no need to criticise like this because music is more about individuals than races.

  • Comment removed

  • @JazzyZenBrotha What you say you do is very admirable, but you're starting to take this conversation out of context. I'm talking about the irrelevance of dividing the quality of modern-day music according to race.

  • @pslopez7 - I see. Thank you for the clarification on that. Since I misunderstood, I have now removed my comments regarding that topic.

  • this is so great! always cheers me up, and louie armstrong is really funny too haha

  • Thanks Youtube for this... And thanks mytoxx !

  • Glad that I got to see Dizzy Gillespie and his band perform in the 1980's at my college. It was an amazing night of beauteous music that I felt like I was barely touching the ground as I walked home that night. Wish I had seen Louis perform in concert as well. That would have been lovely. Thanks!!!!!! :{ )

  • Armstrong is having good time! 1:28

  • dizzy looks like a toad when he playes haha

  • Wow! This made my day!

  • Who are these heartless, soulless pitiful husks of men that disliked this video?

  • like anyone cares what I say

    Thank you, weed.

  • One of my fav. Songs

  • dizzie is the worlds greatest...still

  • This is like god vs chuck norris!

  • I love love love this video!!! It is the best.

  • HOLY SHIT! Look at 1:20 ! His cheeks puff so much that they push his glasses.

  • It would of been so cool to live in this era. The music was so good!

  • Both win!!

  • I'll hand it to Dizzy Gillespie to take a corny song like this that you're used to hearing done by bands like Kay Kyser and jazzing it up like this. Reminds me of hearing Les Paul saying something about Miles Davis telling him he wouldn't be caught dead doing a song like Mockingbird Hill because he wouldn't be able to show his face afterwards. But Dizzy Gillespie doing Umbrella Man and making it work shows true genius.

  • <3

  • Man, I had no idea this existed. Fantastic - thanks for posting it, mytoxx.

And Jackie Gleason, right at the end!! Must have been on his show in the early 60s. I remember watching this show a few years later. Loved him, loved all those old vaudevillians, hoofers and singers who cropped up on TV back then. They were bigger than life.

None was bigger than Louis Armstrong. I love the way he harmonizes with Dizzy here.

  • God bless youtube! would you ever see a clip like this on mainstream tv? I doubt it... and I mean no disrespect to Wynton, Freddy, Clifford et al, but for me, these two remain the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time, a pure joy to behold and listen to, thanks for posting

  • @peaceness888 the enjoyment of music is a timeless factor.

you were born when needed be.... spread the music...keeps it alive....pops an' the diz appreciate more than either of us will know....fo' sure!

  • Thoso Blasckies could teach a thing or two to the actual blacks.....like music, 50cent is bullshit...

  • Louis was really enjoying himself! He must have just smoked!

  • @mrmabstoa

  • Man two legendary cats blowing them trumpets. How awesome is that?

  • Gillespie remember me Groucho Marx.

  • that shit was fucking beautiful did u see the look on louis face it was genuine not that fake smile he usaully does wow

  • I love dizzy, but which one of these guys is on speed? XD

  • they don't do it like this anymore....

  • What kind of world are we living in. Damn near everyone is all about commercialized fake-ass music and refuse to listen to artistic passionate music like this. 35 dislikes? We can't all enjoy the same stuff, but how could you not love this music.

  • @BboyFlimsy to be fair, 2,203 people liked this. The dislike ratio is like less than a percent. So Insignificant.

  • @arzgania Not necessarily. It just has a very low probability of being significant.

  • Armstrong's phrase at 1:37 to 1:46 is pretty amazing.

  • @citywidelawns that wasn't armstrong man, it was dizzy...

  • @citywidelawns i'm right your wrong

  • That guy on piano clearly has tourettes

  • Jackie Gleason was a pretty hip guy.

  • two of the greats!

  • I love those frames Dizzy has wish I could a pair!

  • @mrmabstoa

those looks like some Ray Ban Club Master

  • questo brano l'ho cantato di fronte al grande dizzy.....non ho avuto il piacere di conoscere louis

  • There's a really cool story on how these guys met on this day.

End of a era for Louis, Start of an era for Dizzy :)

    Nice recording.

  • @cloudfan101 How did they meet?
