lovin this movie, as I sit here with tears streaming down my face. Such a tragic , moving character viggo plays. I think I could watch this a dozen times and catch some newonce I'd missed every time. Penn did himself proud , touching story, fantastic cast. Bravo! Must go and finish crying now.
war did not do this to the frank character...he was born that way....brainless, impulsive and with no self control. I have worked in several prisons and they were full of this type of person. if you look around you will find the streets filled with similar types,,,people who have not progressed beyond 12 years of age

@jethro035181 Keep in mind that individual men handle things differently. It's a good thing that soldiers are required now to get professional help when they come home from a war.

@jethro035181 I agree with u and if I remember correctly in an early part when the dad said that some boys comin back from war are coming back real confused, his brother said 'Frank left confused' meaning he was already like that and war had nothing to do with his behaviour.
Some of us are born with the goals of a thousand men , so its real hard too focus on one. So what often happens is we end up lashed down to one in an attempt to be like everyone else but it never last to long and were back to being confused and angry,and clueless. I always envied people who find peace and satifaction
Good film. Penn always gets it right. The most fascinating, most deeply involving films are the ones about everyday people just trying to find their way through life. It is true that life for all of us could be perfect and happy and beautiful from sunrise to sunset. But for a lot of us, for some reason, we can't see that. Something inside us ruins it all.
