I'm both a Nightwish fan and a B5 fan, and I like this song. But I think for B5 clips, only Babylon 5 soundtracks can really bring out the "taste" and emotions. Not to mention the music used here was edited in a rather stiff way.
President Clark established some kind of racist dictatorship on Earth and was also trying to do so on Earth's colonies. Additionally he was using shadow technology to strengthen Earth cruisers. The Attack was to free Earth from this dictatorship.
Btw. his last order, before he shot himself was to destroy earth by it's own defense grid.

No Earth was not attacked, at least not after the Earth-Minbari War (which on a sidenote was not that long ago). But many people had fear of the unknown, and he used that.

Technically, Earth WAS attacked again, but the Drakh were the assailants. It took place in the movie, "A Call to Arms." It obviously took place before the episode, "Sleeping in Light."
It's a very long story, but the EA President, Pres. Clark, who was appointed after his predecessor was assassinated (by Clark and dark allies) had an iron grip on Earth and our colonies. He resorted to morally repugnant methods to keep all in line, and Sheridan had enough. The alien fleet is there to provide logistical support, and defend themselves, if required. The Earth Force ships attacking the defense grid are on Sheridan's side. Clark was a terrorist, and Sheridan et alia knew this.
this is by far the best babylon 5 video that i have watched on youtube. really good job and ty. i like to play around with poopy windows mm and slap out a few poorly made vids. but this vid is absolute class :)

I finally figured out what the Earthforce Cruisers reminded me of--- They look like the Leonov in 2010. Go back and see for yourself, they surely were JMS's inspiration. Even the panel fins look like the ones on the B5 station itself.
The Leonov looks much much like an Earthforce Cruiser.
I thought that when I first saw the cruiser in b5, its a nearly exact copy of the Leonov with a stretched hull, same rotation module almost. Hard to say they stole it but they sure as hell watched 2010 the night before they had a B5 design session...wink wink.
That makes total sense, and any time you get sci-fi creators who are fans of foundation sci-fi authors you should get good results. Too bad that creativity was shackled later with low budgets and terrible writing, poor editting and a basic loss of all that made B5 good. Crusade and Rangers were ridiculous, and Lost Tales sucked dong. Dont beat a dead horse, JMS, launch a new one! With BSG success and ending its time for SciFi we can get behind again....
In my opinion, BSG (the new one) has. It has a very detailled and thrilling story arc, the actors are good, the dialogues are thought-out - and: this time, the space scenes are good, too. No, they are not good, they are absoluteley incredibly unbelievably amazing, astonishing, kick ass, great and so on!!
lol well said, actually I got a little depressed when I watched BSG for the first time, stopped watching it my brother convinced me to start again and - who'd have thought - I really liked it...
no, there were still a few gaps to fill in with the telepath war and londo's descent to being a drakh pawn but what would've been great was if boxleitner had been sinclair so no story arc damage, and if they hadn't had to wrap up the whole story in 4, and if ivanova hadnt left
mm looking back on it the special effects might have been the main reason i loved that show... but it's hard to pick just one.. god i can't wait until the dvd movies

JMS has actually said it was an homage to Arthur Clark's realism in 2010. All Earthforce cruisers were based on the CCCP Alexi Leonov.
In fact so is the naming of "President Clark".
Oddly enough in 2010, there is a momentary clip when you see Time Magazine's cover, for the US/USSR 2010 Carribean standoff.
Clark is shown as the US President, Premier Kubrik was a picture of Stanley Kubrick.
