  • If you haven't sold it, you've had it for a couple of years now. How are you getting along with it?

  • tu la vend???? ;-)

le touché y est, mais c pas gilmour, pas assez subtil! C'est pas le son ds les graves qu'il utilise, ni les aigüs.

  • tu la vend???? ;-)

  • nice guitar !! I read an article about this guitar in guitar player

  • What happens if you tour and play with it for as long as the original, does it look double relic'd lol

  • Gilmours Strat never had green text on the knobs....

  • oh so jealous my friend. One day she will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine

  • Sweet ass case!

  • Is the paint on the knobs green or are the pics playing tricks on my eyes?

  • @joshie4330

    No tricks, knobs are green

  • hey whats the difference between the relic and the other 1 they released besides a grand?

  • @zakkwylde66 Only difference is cosmetically

  • Hey, how do you change the strings to this guitar? How do these tuners work? Thanks!

  • what's the song? I've never heard that floyd song before, and I'm a huge floyd fan, unless it's from their newer stuff without Waters, then I wouldn't recognize it anyway;

  • @JTrials31

It is from newer. Its called Island Jam. It was the demo song for gilmours most recent solo album called on an island.

  • Ma Gilmou per Island jam, non usa una stratocaster, ma una Gibson Les paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a Stratocaster sound, but a tipical Les Paul sound!!!!!!!!

  • I know, I just really like the song

  • Ah, that's why, haven't listened to any of his solo stuff, I guess I'll have to give his solo stuff a chance then. I just really didn't care much for db and mlor.

  • From wich year is the original Gilmour Strat ?

    Thanks...

  • 1969 strat bought by gilmour in 1970 at Manny's in Nyc.

  • Thanks:D,

but when its from 1969, why does it not have the big headstock ?

Did he change the neck ?

  • Yah it originally had a maple 4-bolt neck with the large headstock.. You can see the original headstock on their Live at Pompeii videos..

It also originally had a sunburst finnish and he painted it over black..

Plus many other mods he made to it over the years.

  • He didn't spray it black... He bought it ready sprayed. If you look into Febder history, Fender used to do a lot of that with sunburst finishes that went wrong... If the finish was cocked up instead of scrapping the body or stripping it it was more cost effective to finish the guitar in a base colour.... in his case it was finished in black by Fender.... Obviously because the sunburst had gone wrong somewhere alon the line.

  • @bettsaj

Thank you for that info.. I always read repainted over the original sunburst.. I did not realize that was done by fender.. Really appreciate the correction

  • Aright that's great, u spent thousands on a replica of Davids guitar. The question is, are you worthy of owning one? If u cant play like Dave at least feel like him I guess...Haha

  • No one can play like dave except dave. Thats why he has the original and all we have are replicas.

  • Correction, that's why u have a replica. Im original, I have my own custom ax. Keep rockin though homes

  • Thats awesome man, got any videos with it? I wouldnt know where to begin to custom build a guitar. Is it after the black start specs or your own creation?

  • I was planning on making one of these out of parts. What i am hung up on now is finding the right kind of neck with the fender logo for less then an arm and a leg. If anyone knows were i could find a 57 reissue neck for under 200 that wuld be sweet, or if all parts necks have a fender logo on them.

thanks to whoever may know anything

  • You wont find a fender 57 reissue neck for under 200. Best bet is to keep an eye out on ebay for some MIM or CIJ 57 reissue necks. BUt they still fetch almost $300. BUt that still isnt that bad. $200 for a 57 reissue isnt going to happen unless the neck is damaged in some way.

  • Thanks for the input. I ended up getting an allparts neck with a nitrocellulose finish on it. It's looking like it is close enough to David's neck for my purposes same radius and shape. But yeah you were right about the fenders i only managed to get the allparts one for 180!

  • Oh ok! I was thinking you were going to put a crappy washburn or some other low end neck on. All parts is good stuff. Its basically naked fenders. (no decals) you should make a vid of your new axe!

  • Haha don't worry no half-assing here! And i'm thinking about it i guess i'll see when i get all the parts. Thanks!!!!

  • You can buy special decals on ebay, they look exactly like the ones on the relic replica. You just dip them in water, than aply them on the neck, wait a couple of hours and then you put another coat of nitrocellulose. If you have trouble finding the right decal just message. good luck with the project!

  • Wow, what a damn fine guitar...I would kill if Fender came out with a lefty model

  • you could just do a hendrix on it !

  • @MCLOVIN50

    I too:)

  • You are most fortunate mofo for having aquired such a favourable axe!

  • What is the name of the song?

  • David Gilmour - Island Jam

  • Beutiful guitar!!! You are a LUCKY person and if you don't believe in luck, then you are extremly FORTUNATE!!! Post some videos of you playing it, I've always wanted to hear the tone of one of these magnificent axes!

  • Thank you..

I feel sort of both. I'll post a video of the sound shortly..

  • Thanks for all the replies, folks.

I'm seriously itching to play one of these puppies..

  • where you from dylan?

  • What is the song? Great guitar!

  • Ok- Call me lazy, or unnattentive... but-

What's the difference between the NOS and the Relic ??? Somebody please explain..Thanks.

  • The NOS looks brand new. The relic is "reliced` and looks exactly like David´s with all the dings, chips, dongs and with parts of the paint mssing.

  • NOS=old parts on a new guitar

relic=same as NOS but it's worn with certain chemicals to make it look old

  • ya the rellics are more expensive too from what ive seen

  • isn;t the music from the barn jams? wich are played with a Gretsch guitar? :D

  • yah ;)

Loved the smoothness of the song so I figured why not..

  • indeed it is and yeah...why not :)

  • The idea of copying Gilmours damages on his guitar is a really cool idea hehe

  • i want that guitar

  • Amazing: Yes

    Worth the money: Yes

Up there with Blackie and Lenny: Yes

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PLZ!!! you can tell me what is the title of this song????

  • Its called "Island Jam" and its by David Gilmour of course!

  • I'm a big Gilmour fan. But I don't see why you would spend that much money on a reliced guitar. Few years from now it wont look like Davids. Only way Id buy one is to keep it as a collectors item, and not play it. You could have built one just like it for probably half for what you paid. Still nice though. Jealous?... definitely haha

  • why is it so damaged? o.O

  • :)

Funny, my friend came over the other night who doesnt play, he was messing around with it thinking its just some beat up guitar..

  • because fender does "relic" guitars, this is David Glimour's famous BLACK STRAT, and it has the same damage as Davids' strat

looks pretty cool, but they can't really replicate 35+ years of damage, it looks cool and all, but to my eyes it looks like someones taken a pnumatic grinder (witch is what they do) to the fingeboard

    sweet guitar though

  • it does look like that until you play it for a while. Once you play it for a while the wear marks turn dark and look 100% authentic.

  • beacause it is worn out to give the exact replica of Gilmours strat.

  • Nice barn jam!!

  • beutiful guitar

  • thank you

  • Congratulations on your Gilmour Srat!

I recently completed the book "The Black Strat" and his guitar has quite a history.

You must be a true fan.

  • Thank You

There is no one that im a bigger fan of, or that inspires me like gilmour. This strat is my most prized possesion.

  • For that price where do I stick my dick in it?

  • dont know about in it, but im sure it can be used as a slide ;)

  • I can't believe all the dumbass' that are buying the Fender tribute guitars. I guess there are suckers born every minute. Fender charges 5 figures for a guitar the artist payed 3 figures for. Idiots!!!

  • the minute you were born a idiot was born! you don't understand the meaning of music go watch porn and don't come here again! i could give my left ball to have that strat!

  • Lol, i practically sold my left ball for this guitar, and couldnt be happier.

  • has this guitar a S Vintage model strat block ??

So the tremolo arm stays in place?

  • I just received my Relic Gilmour yesterday... This guitar is wonderful!! for a real Gilmour fan, it has no price... the feeling you have when playing it can not be shared...

congratulation Floydguitar18 for this investment... we are here talking about passion...

  • Fine. Looks nice!!! A black Dream!!!

It was horrible expensive, wasn't it?

If you got too much money, pls send it too me!! :)

  • Lol, yes it was

saved up for it for over a year since I heard it was coming out, still was a heck of alot more than I hoped. Lol, maybe you can send me some cash to finnish paying it off ;)

Was worth every penny though and I dont think ill ever take much of a hit if I want to sell it.

  • Worth every penny? You could have just bought the parts the Custom shop used, and put it together yourself. And then you could have sent the 2000 quid that were left to skisepp0815. :P

  • How much was that guitar? :)

  • I played this DG Relic, it sounded good, but a little difficult to play. Y is the NOS so expensive ? I can see the PRICE of the RELIC maybe

  • I felt the same way at first. After playing it for a few hours I really started feeling it and it feels great.

  • Great, now play the fucker.

  • what song is that playing

  • Island Jam, The promo song from the "on an island" album.

  • Amazing guitar...

  • Cool pictures.

    Amazing DG relic strat!

    Thanks for uploading.

  • Floydguitar78

about the video quality the pictures are perfect if you press "Watch In High Quality"

    THX for sharing the pics!

  • Didnt even notice that button

    Thank You

  • people you really need to get out more.

  • Just out of curiosity, what made you get this version rather than the NOS?

  • I dont play gigs or write music. 95% of my playing is done at home mostly just jamming to my favorite floyd songs. Gilmour is the reason I ever picked up a guitar and its his music that inspires me to play more. The authenticity is unreal, I actually feel like im playing gilmours strat.

I also believe the NOS is overpriced and I dont believe it will hold its value, since its just a guitar with gilmour electronics and not "gilmours guitar"..

  • The NOS is just like Gilmour's, except the intentional damaging. Neither guitars are "Gilmour's", both are replicants. Also, isn't the NOS cheaper than the Relic? It's like Roger Federer releasing 2 versions of a signature tennis racket. One version has worn out strings, chipped frame etc. The other is a brand new replica.

  • (continued) If you plan to play tennis with it, the new version is the better deal. If you plan on keeping it for show, the damaged one would be better as it's a closer match to Federer's own. However, neither would be 100% authentic and both are just the same thing.

If anything, the newer, non-damaged version would be better value for money, right?

  • Not really a good example. A damaged tennis racket would not be the smart choice, neither would a damaged guitar.

The guitar isnt damaged, its just made to look exactly like his, which me being such a huge fan of his makes me feel almost like im playing his guitar.

  • (Continued)

The NOS is just under 4k. If im already spending $4000 I would rather spend the extra $1000 and get the real deal. Now if the NOS was in the $1500 range you still wouldnt be making a good argument to a diehard fan who can afford the Relic, but at least it would make the NOS purchase justifiable. Paying 4k for the NOS makes alot less sense to me than getting the relic for 5.

  • (Continued)

The NOS is only half replica, electronics yes, looks no. The Relic has both the look and electronics of my favorite guitarist ever. So I actually enjoy and apreciate it that much more.

Guess I cant really explain it to someone who doesnt really appreciate it the same way.

  • What do you do when Gilmour ammends his further? When there are more scratches, chips etc. on it? It will cease to be "just like Gilmour's"!

  • But the NOS still isn't the real deal is it? Neither is the Relic. Both have the same parts, except one looks more like the Black Strat as it is now, whilst the other looks like what it once was.

In the NOS, the pickups have been degaussed the wood itself has been artificially aged, they routed out the inside of the body cavity, they routed out two different spots on the body and filled them in with saw dust and wood glue. So yeah, it has been damaged.

  • :)

    Enjoy the pics

  • a very beautifull guitar indeed

  • Thank You Very Much

Dont know what youtube did here, the pictures look sort of squished. On my comp the video i made looks unreal. Youtube streched the images and it got all grainy..
