@shanirideshorsesss it's supposed sound more like, australian or wherever it came from, like the vowels aren't supposed to really be perfectly shaped.
Tried it one more time.. Still not impressed. And, pertaining to the 13-17 yr old comment, so was my choir when we did this. We also only had 5 hours to rehearse. Still sounded better.
goes in and out of time, very bright, sped up a lot at the end. and the time keeper, whether it be a metronome or aboriginal sticks are used too much, and depended on to set the time (pick it up or slow it down) rather than the choir. Its decent, however should be worked on more before it is seen by the public.
the men in this piece have nice open round sound but the women sound very young and child like. This song is supposed to be extremely powerful and from hearing this i dont get that impression, good job on the claps tho!
The women are supposed to sound that way. It's the style. I know because I'm singing it in my honor choir. It's supposed to be really nasally...it's extremely hard to sing like that... Like when they get to the li na's their tone changes completely.
they're rushing and everyone got jumbled. I tried to sing my part but the sopranos kept dominating the altos!!! =( And it's way too fast so it was a bit overwhelming. But it's a good try because the choirs so big, which makes it pretty difficult
It's not a metronome it's actually traditional aboriginal music sticks. (considering it's an aboriginal song). I think we are damn impressive. Remember this is a choir full of 13-17yr olds.
i like music from australia i find it very creative and great. When i was young i didnt like australian music but after listening to it i realised that all music is very creative amd expressive. your/their singers are great
as i recall from the explanation, the song is an ancient Austrailian text calling to the shark (ngana) and fish (mangana) to come to the blue sea (lina). the word 'Ya' is a greeting.
This is such a sweet song... we are singing it right now in my high school choir... it's hard but SO cool.... i agree with some other people who said it doesn't quite sound right... but overall it sounds good
i'm donig this song with my choir and its so fun!! this choir seems a little young though. i understand you don't exactly use great choral vowels, but it didn't sound so right. when ever we perform this, i'll be sure to get a recording of it to see if it is the same as this choir, worse, or better. overall though, it was fast and good :D
Morton Music in Australia publish this work written by Australian composer Stephen Leek. For your interest Ngana means 'Shark'. The setting for this is the Torres Strait between Australia and New Guinea.
And they need the tapping to actually stay on tempo...and they keep itching their faces.... XD

The vowels are terrible....
TheOnlyEasterBeast 4 months ago
We had so much trouble doing this one when I was in St Peters Chorale. No one could clap in time.

i don't like how fast it is...

The written music only allows for female voices at the end. The fact that they have the men singing is an insult.

i would check out the version by andover high school concert choir, i thinks its better.
still... good timing.
bubblybb 3 years ago
Of course the timing is good when a metronome is used.. I've never heard a piece performed with one. That's very tacky.
SheXDiesXToday 2 years ago
actually it sounds more like clavas. It adds more traditional taste.
Epmonito 2 years ago
nonetheless, still loses points for me.
The tone doesnt help me much either.

Translation from Spanish to English:
Its like really fast. I think it should be slower; its an african song with flavor
and i dont like those notes at the bottom but its ok.

wow.... we sung this like 3 weeks ago. this song kicked our butts and you guys made it sound flawless!!! O.o Kudos!!!

apart from the fact that the women sound like young japanese children chasing fireflies...
good timing.

it kinda song of beat at some parts... we're about to sing this at our school on the 22nd.
peachfanboy16 3 years ago
stephen leek is a mental genius. timing is this groups friend. vowels are not.
expression people expression. i do not get the visual of a shark chasing an innocent fish here. otherwise fair attempt (question mark)

free2dunk2003 3 years ago
This is a great rendition of the piece, but they could work a little on their vowels a bit.

Love it. Most people usually make a mockery out of African processionals. But I can't wait to sing that at our regional chorus
Mextorf39 4 years ago
Actually it's not African but Australian Aborigine.

It sure is Australian, about as Australian as it comes. It was written for our school choir in Brisbane, Queensland. We're very proud of it.
