Don Imus' most recent controversial statement is not an exception to the rule, but the "straw that broke the camel's back." If it be true that America is continuously making headway in increasing its cultural competency, then Don Imus' pink slip was inevitable. If the U.S. has truly made progress on the race relations front, the culturally-insensitive comments that were deemed humorous in the 1970s should not yield the same chuckles today.
