  • That was sad. It was a beautiful store they allowed to fall into disrepair... granite floors... marble walls... now it's an ugly strip mall. Cheesy at best. The fire damage could have been fixed. Don't let them fool you. It wasn't about a tradition and a "landmark" in the neighborhood... it was all about the money.

  • I remember seeing the tower clock lite up in the night from far away on

    Roosevelt Blvd.

  • I stole about 20lbs of copper out of sears before they imploded it, cashed that shit in for a couple hundred

  • Crazy... I was eight when I watched this from the field next to Cardinal Dougherty High School in Olney.

  • I remember being on Summerdale and Godfrey avenue watching the Sears Implosion on October 30, 1994

  • So very sad. A shame they didn't re-use it.

  • I think they had to do this because it was destroyed by fire and could not repair it or something.

  • @JakePA1979

There was a massive fire in it earlier, so it would have been too expensive to rebuild.

  • OMG! Still my reaction everytime I see this! - sad....

  • I agree. Such a shame a lovely old building like this is destoryed rather than reused. Total shame. Very sad.
