ahaha im origionally english speaking and almost fluent in french but i was born on durban southafrica and want to learn to speak at least one of the 11 national launguages i choose afrikaans :)
That kind of refreshed my memory. Ever since I moved to the uk, I can't speak much afrikaans, since I only speak english, and think in english. Dit is regtig hartseer. ):
@mughaleazamfan Hi, there... No, the 'g' sound is produced by closing the space between your soft palate and your tongue so that it sounds fricative (friction of the air from your throat). The 'r' in Afrikaans is either produced by rolling the tip of your tongue while speaking so that it vibrates slightly or the way the French say it, in which case we call it 'brei'.
@MrMoimx Hahahahaha sounds very good, yo tambien estoy aprendiendo este idioma por una amiga de South Africa, yo entiendo el ingles, y ella tambien, pero tambien encuentro interesante el aprender su idioma.
I like your videos! I am somewhat conversationally proficient in Spanish, and a native English speaker, but recently became interested in learning other foreign languages. I read in a few places online that the easiest language for native English speakers to learn was Afrikaans, so I went looking for some videos and found yours. I had no idea there was a language so similar to English out there! I always thought Spanish was the most similar, but Afrikaans seems to share many more similarities!
I like your voice thanks for the vids I think i would like to learn afrikaans and im a step ahead anyone who would try learn this great language at home because my friend called Donovan is a fluent south african that i see nearly everyday haha
Dankie Gavin, :) ek bly in New Zealand en het net nou na die video gekyk. Lekker man! Lekker om die 'taal' te hoor. Ons praat nou maar meestal net engels in die huis en my kinders het groot geword in NZ maar verstaan nog goed Afrikaans maar kan nie praat nie LOL. Dankie vir die video.
thank you so much. My father came from south africa to the netherlands when he was 17. Now i'm almost his age and dieing to go on vacation together with him. But we don't have te money. So we made an agreement, if i gether the money and learn the language he would pay half of the money and we'll go in 2 years from now, so thank you so much for posting this vid. if it all works out it'll be a dream coming true!!
Is it maybe possible that you could make a video showing how to pronounce the words right? I mean, because there have to be some patterns so you know how to read a text in Afrikaans without knowing every single word. (Think you get what I mean :D)
Goeie combinatie , gesproken en , geschreven Afrikaans ik kan als Nederlander redelijk volgen niet 100% ,maar nu hoor ik de uitspraak erbij dat maakt het wel makkelijker.
his voice is giving me orgasms... so soothing.... my goodness

Hi...just out of curiosity, is the [g] in Afrikaans pronounced like [r] in French?

IT's the vowels that I found really different - no wonder you guys sound like New Zealand when you speak English - it's the vowels!
