Hi...just out of curiosity, is the [g] in Afrikaans pronounced like [r] in French?

@mughaleazamfan Hi, there... No, the 'g' sound is produced by closing the space between your soft palate and your tongue so that it sounds fricative (friction of the air from your throat). The 'r' in Afrikaans is either produced by rolling the tip of your tongue while speaking so that it vibrates slightly or the way the French say it, in which case we call it 'brei'.

I like your videos! I am somewhat conversationally proficient in Spanish, and a native English speaker, but recently became interested in learning other foreign languages. I read in a few places online that the easiest language for native English speakers to learn was Afrikaans, so I went looking for some videos and found yours. I had no idea there was a language so similar to English out there! I always thought Spanish was the most similar, but Afrikaans seems to share many more similarities!

thank you so much. My father came from south africa to the netherlands when he was 17. Now i'm almost his age and dieing to go on vacation together with him. But we don't have te money. So we made an agreement, if i gether the money and learn the language he would pay half of the money and we'll go in 2 years from now, so thank you so much for posting this vid. if it all works out it'll be a dream coming true!!
