  • Fast, slow, whatever? Yeah right! Has anybody ever seen him play slow?

  • he best teaches himself I think

  • Even though I don't play this style it is very inspiring to watch the man do his thing.

  • He has same voice as Joaquin Phoenix :)

  • I don't necessarily agree with the amount of shifting he does and how he doesn't seem to let his hand open up; where I'm getting at with that is I like working my stretches to the limit first, and if even good stretches won't let me get the tone I want then I'll shift positions.

  • @ChronoGXay

I'm trying to learn how to shift effectively. There's a HUGE amount of range you can get by shifting, which is great for impressive arpeggios - there's only so much you can do on the same position in the neck. It's a little difficult though, since learning to do something new makes me feel like a total newbie. >.>

  • is it me. or does he sound and look like elvis ... on crack..

  • Press pause in between in the different pieces and play them again if you like. I find it a quite helpfull video actually.

  • haha he`s the guitar playing version of ozzy osbourne

  • The guy is a legend, but if it does not stop drinking will soon be talking to Ozzy Osbourne

  • He doesnt just play fast,,his technique is fantastic!

  • Hi, Can some please tell me what's... Figure 2a and so on.. Any lesson tabs available for this. Thanks.

  • economic picking or alternative picking ?

  • Hi! I'm Mickey Malmsteel 0:33

  • yngiwe is god

  • bibigigigididkitigi...usually i do it...gikibitibiiiitkikipigi...if that's to difficult you can try...gigibitilipigitiki...or...litjikiiiibigigigbititikibikik, Wow!! This lesson was really helpful! ;) Great guitar playing though. :)

  • haha he is using rocky balboa's speaking technique "..ain zust plaiinh dom kno wam buin.." ahahah aaadrianne

  • Yngwie can give you his récipes, but you've got to know how to cook first.

  • 0:55 hahahahahahahha what tha fuck r u saying!?!?!?!!?

  • PAUSE AT 5:17 !!!

  • yeah blahblahblah..same shit over and over and over and over again and blahblahblahbla

*and this comment will be receiving many negative, both votes and comments :P

  • and his picking technique is awesome and economic pure

  • His an Asshole but an amazing guitarrero !

  • @stillAfreak2008 Do u know him?

  • @Mr4000killer Yip ! and now ? his an ashole,trust me !

  • @stillAfreak2008 Fair enough...Great vid´s on ur channel Btw

  • and they do their way of doing that

  • the way that he plays that is like the wat that he plays this with that involved with this

  • his brain works at the level of speed that his playing is.

  • Buddy's gonna be buried in leather pants.

  • For anyone who can't figure it out, Yngwie uses a lot of economy picking.

  • @ShredableGuitar If you look close sometimes he seems to be picking with the little finger as well as the pick with/in the same hand ie his right hand, almost like he is using 2 picks

  • ... Haha I'm seriously laughing at your comment. No. You must be slightly blind. He anchors his little finger on the pickguard however.

  • Lol he plays fast, he talks fast, he thinks fast, he probably even drives fast! Make that 1045 likes. Love this vid!

  • he might be kind of arrogant, he might like to show off. but seriously. he knows his shit and he's damn good at what he does

  • Comment removed

  • I don't like his new stuff tbh it's way too fast for me. I liked him when he was in alcatrazz though

  • COME ON HEADSTOCK, HIT THE FREAKIN MIXER ALREADY.

  • like it..............

  • He's like yeah.. i fuckin' did that in the end of the first solo :D

  • now i'm starting to learn and understand the yngwie's style

  • don't really get how people say this guy is overrated. Quite simply he has a different insight that most players and developed his own style of playing. He inspires many guitarists. sure sometimes it can get a bit much after a while but he is the best at what he does.

  • 7:02 I Dunno!

  • I wonder if he masturbates in that speed.

  • ... still looking for my jaw. it fell

  • hes pretty good

  • me"I Cant play hell faster than this!"...

    Some guy "How?"

    me"Did you see that!"

    some guy "see what?"

    me" Exactly"

  • That chromatic run at 0:25 is just ridiculous.

  • too much reverb.....i love his tone in the 80's without that much reverb...

  • He seems like a pretty intelligent guy with a great grasp on musical theory. I have ea lot more respect for him than I did before. Yeah Yngwie!

  • when he picks, is his wrist floating?

  • Since when did Bill Murray play guitar

    Only kidding great guitar player

  • "it looks like you're knitting" hahaha

  • in the diminished thing hes talking about, is he going up and down the diminished scale? or up and down minor thirds?

  • Wow, it's almost as if this was shot in 1986!

  • man i hear alot of timo tollki in his playing. im guessing tolki was influenced majorly by yngwie

  • Those who have any negative comments for YNGWIE are either to Lazy to pick their instruments and Practice to perform like him or lack Creativity....

think 10 times before you post any comment for a guitarist who is an inspiration for thousands of guitarists for that matter Musicians out there...!!!

    so..... Please...!!!

  • mumblemumblemumbleSHREDmumblemumblemumbleSHRED

  • The word "freak" comes to mind!!

  • oo i didnt know that ywngie plays diminished

  • does the guy whos interviewing him know what he's talking about? LOL

  • All (ok, mostly) guitarists go through the period of playing, all of they in the beginning want to play as speedy as possible..and when they realize some things, when they "grow up", continue to play, but slower..blues,.... Yngwie was older.. but still playing 300 per hour...hm....(◑‿◐)

  • @juliancro

.........that's pure jealousy speaking....no matter who or how old a guitarist is, there is not a one who wouldn't kill to be able to play like Yngwie. It is the ultimate achievement, this is guitar playing at the highest level, with impeccable technique. It's not a phase, and has nothing to do with growing up, everybody who says Yngwie is one dimensional is just jealous that they can't do it.

  • @blacksabbathish

My friend...I don t want to play like him,.. first... because I can t play like him, and second because I do not like this way of playing...I respect him, he is a guitarist who developed his style, and develop your own style is the culmination of of guitar playing, I did not say that I like or not like in the commentary below, I'm just saying the conclusion (◑‿◐)

  • @blacksabbathish no man, i'd kill to be able to do a bend and give chills to everybody like slash, or write some of te most kickass riffs in history like jimmy page. but i wouldn't kill to be able to go up and down a scale lightning fast.

  • @mkwlord Well, the really, really difficult thing is to play lightning fast. Very, very few can do it. Also, a guitarist like Yngwie Malmsteen (who is the epitome of guitar-perfection) can of course play slow. Slash on the other hand does not even come close to the speed of Yngwie; Slash simply doesn´t have that capability. And don´t get me wrong here; I adore Slash and he is one of my favourites and Guns N´ Roses are my favourite band! Plus that Slash has written some of the greates riffs ever!

  • @MrJamesLongstreet yes man i agree. yngwie's technique and speed are truly unmatchable but isn't emotion what's music is all about?

  • I wanna kill a 6 headed beast with my electric junk! Fuck a dog with rabies! YEah!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm always completely in love with his note choices. Some of those bends make me wanna just fuck something.

  • There is no one like him, that's for sure.

  • i have to say there is always a one of a kind player and that is yngwie.

no yngwie may have meant nobody trying to play classical style on electric.

he is an inspiration to all guitar players and others. good to watch.

  • 7:33 is the best of all thing played!!

  • i saw Kirk Hammett shout at Lars once during a jam "Hey slow down I'm not Yngwie!!" I laughed so hard at that.. Kirk is awesome, and so is Yngwie. Now please don't waste time here trashing Kirk, or comparing the two

  • it looks like he's not even trying at all,he just does it FUCK XD

  • wheres yngwie from?

  • @JrodMcKenzy Sweden

  • @JrodMcKenzy

    Stockholm, Sweden.

  • This isn't a lesson. This is pure guitar masturbation.

  • @TheAmazingUploader For a guitar noob.. I guess you could jack off to this.

  • I could probably jack off to this if I tried hard enough. Still doesn't change the fact that it's pure egotistical crap.

  • do any of you guys have girlfriends? is that your mum at your bedroom door tom the shit-artist??? Hahaha!!!!!!!!!!! Laterz you LOSERS

  • What this man has in technical prowess, he lacks in communication skills.

  • this would be helpful if i knew how to play better

  • His picking technique is something that should be studied by every guitarist, IMO. Flawless.

  • @k1llin1t u r right mate

  • @k1llin1t only if he would care to slow it down a bit

  • i really love how you can still hear the detail of the pick hitting the strings!

  • @TomTheGuitarist diminished arpeggios normally he explain, but in one part conbine the harmonic minor sclae whit the diminished scale...

  • "it looks like you're knitting" lol

  • mmmmmmm bread and butter

  • his speaking reminds me of Sydney of mind your language

  • this ,,,,suitable for those already learn the music theory....and I think Yngwie Music is unique...that's why many people wants to play like Him....

  • 5:16 he gave all guitarists a finger

  • great guitarist but i think he was drunk when this video was made

  • Comment removed

  • Thats Rocky with long hair )))))

  • When he makes trills he pours magic dust over the guitar with his right hand :D

  • worst guitar teacher !

  • 0:33

is needly to say "I'm yngwie malmsteen?"

  • douche

  • the biggest secret, is to practice with so little tension, that you don't even fret the notes (unless its really low action and detuned with light gauge, but most people are medium action and in E standard, because they're all sheople guitar idiots). And restrict yourself from going faster unless your tension does not increase. Tension =/= speed, its twitch muscles and muscle memory, not strength or tension. use shortest movements, no tension, if your fingers come up high, too much tension.

  • @fenderwangcaster Hey you know i was searching for someone else who had the same thoughts as me and what you've said here is so right almost all guitarist do have a really low action.I have a doubt though if your strings are really low do you have to adjust the truss rod to avoid string buzz?

  • @ishani859 it depends on string tension. If they're light gauge strings and/or tuned to a lower standard tuning, then expect buzzing. A little buzzing is good though, it makes the guitar sound more full, bright, and punchy and cool without having to slap it hard. Mine is really low, tuned 1.5 steps down, and it just has that acoustic guitar sounding buzz, like when you hear people like steve vai, tommy emmanuel, or peppino d'agostino play. Play lightly and buzzing won't be so severe.

  • 42 losers who quit playing guitar for trying to cover malmsteen's solos had disliked this video

  • @underoath115 or think (like me) that he is overrated or just didnt like it

  • @TheRealSonicYouth well i dont think he is overrated , he is a legend , and thanks to him many guitar players are inspired , if u think about yngwie malmsteen in album and band terms then u dont understand what yngwie really is all about. even if you dont like yngwie style you still ow him respect , i think michael angelo is overrated but doesnt mean i dont respect the guy for the awesome stuff he is doin while playin his guitar , but anyway i can feel ya , you tried yngwie n failed , its ok

  • Watching this only verifies how little I actually know.

  • I actually had to paus the video and use a magnifying glass to see if he had 6 fingers on his left hand.

  • He talks Like a Drunk Person...Another shot please heecupp!

  • 1:20 ..my head hurts :S

  • I think Swissgar from Metalocalypse was modled after Yngwie. He says.....sweeps...sweeps...sweeps......ok, youre on top of the mountain! And remembers, yous only cheats yourselfs when you use "crappy" guitars playings! LOL! Just check out "Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle" Lesson here on YouTube. It's hilarious!

  • This makes me want to have a big bonfire with all of my guitars and roast marshmellows ! Everyone's invited ! He makes it looks so easy, but its 100 times more difficult than it looks- I've been play'n for bout 30 years- I'm NOt Worthy !

  • Press continuously 4 and you'll know the Malmsteen's favourite band

  • @TheVexHead Sodom rules....lolol.Cheers.

  • @AbraxiS666 Thrash Metal rules :)

    Cheers

  • Eddie, Lynch, Yngwie, Zakk...nuff said

  • pause at 5:17..... :O look his finger

  • Translation, I learned to play horizontally as well as vertically.

  • I believe if he ever finger banged a chick she would die instantly

  • Don't get me wrong,I love Yngwie, but this lesson is no good haha what's up with the alternate picking thing??I recommend everybody to go watch Paul Gilbert or John Petrucci Lessons. You will learn more there :P.

  • Even when Yngwie tries to be sloppy, it's still clean.

  • I don't see why everyone isn't considering this as a guitar lesson... To be quite honest, Yngwie has better things to do than to make guitar lesson videos aimed at an audience who has just started to play guitar.. This video is aimed at guitarists who know their music theory, who know how to play guitar, and just want to improve their skills and riff solos and what not.. He's not here to tell you what your fingering should be and what notes to play.. It's just a general idea on what he does...

  • @d3strukter Ahaha well said. So true though :)

  • @d3strukter Exactly right. He just gives the big picture of what he does.He isnt a teacher and he definately doesnt want to be.Anyone who has played at least a bit he would know that he is heavy in sequencing scales and instead of wanting tabs for everything they could just take their favorite scales and sequence them to death. But nowadays they need tabs even for nursery rhymes. But nowadays we are filled with instant gratification noobs. They wanna learn something yesterday...and without practice.

  • @d3strukter perfect definition. if someone is watching this video and needs to watch it very slowly to get what he is playing shouldnt even be watching this as a lesson.

  • @d3strukter Agreed. This is a guitar lesson, you just have to know what the fuck he's talking about... Which, to be honest, isn't that difficult. Frankly, every musician should learn theory, regardless of whether or not they want to play professionally or just for fun. Theory is the building blocks of music. If you know your theory, learning to play is so much easier, because you know WHAT your playing.

Personally, I love playing around with Phrygian modes. Fun little mode with a cool tonality.

  • 0:55 wut u say? lukdatdisdisuhh

  • true master...

  • 1:03..it's basicly the scale.. but you go ilke (movements with hands like cutting somthing).. bi didiu didiu babadidiu dido(8)..

    LOL!

  • His picking hand barely moves. Perfecting your technique seems essential. Time to get to work.

  • 1:20 :"This guitar player playin this..and and I wanted to listen to him and they they uh..way of doing that and on that goes..and I wanted to challenge myself..."

Dear Mr. Malmsteen. I dont give a shit what you wanted. You call this a lesson. Where is it?!

Thank you for your wisdom and teaching Zen Master.

  • Comment removed

  • @PureDiamondFilms I know he isn't a good teacher, but this is clearly meant for someone who is already familiar with his theory.

  • Listen to all that delay!

  • crazy

  • How is the Pizzicato technique different from just regular pulloffs? I'm so confused.

  • @HexagonHeat83 theres a different feel to it, and tone.

  • It's not genius. It's 16000 hours of practice.

  • @system566 you have to be a genius to practice that much. Do you? Guess you're not one either !! ;-P

  • 42 people dont know a thing about good guitar playing......

  • i learned all that he played ....its easy......

  • damn his tone sounds great!

  • @jazz69cat Most guitarists sound good in the studio ;) His tone was retched live lol

  • @jazz69cat tone is all in the fingers my friend!!!

  • One thing he said about the picking thing is VERY useful, "do whatever it takes", so it may not be strict alternating, it might be some economy picking too, then change to sweeping, and back n forth....but it's becomes a FEEL thing. There's nothing wrong in that.

  • yngwie!

  • Yngwie always does the same damn run :l

  • @xJustynLx He does in your gay ass world

  • @Rushguitarist1

You like Rush. I don't even need to say anything else.

  • @xJustynLx you fucking tool, why are you even watching this?

  • @xJustynLx because you have nothing bad to say you pussy

  • @xJustynLx rush is a great band, you're just to retarded to figure it out

  • @xJustynLx same runs my ass

  • His right hand is really impressive. It barely moves!

  • There's no G in an E phrygian dominant scale...

  • @liquidman2 Yeah. Its a G#. In minor phrygian dominant i think it turns into A because of the sharp 3rd.. OR hes is playing a flat 3rd

  • @contrapuntalslunk or just phrygian.

  • Can some1 explain why every1 says hes so arrogant?

I'm seriously asking because idk much about this guy other than he is a great guitarrist

  • @666ThrashManiac He's done things like make a video where he says, "If you do want to play along, this is the tuning. I've tuned it to E Flat." Then he plucks a string and looks at the camera, and says with his face, "Suck it, bitch!"

  • 0:56

    Yngwie:dadudadadisave

    (plays epic)

I cant undertand him but he dont need words when he uses his guitar

  • @ryudragon12 lol..i was thinking about that too..XD

yeah,he's fuckin awesome when he plays his guitar

  • haha, major turd

  • LOL

If it's good it's good...you need good ears.

This guy and I think alike so much it's not even funny.

  • GUITAR IS NOT ABOUT PLAYING FAST

  • @YanksFan162 It's about that and composition, which Yngwie has. ^^

  • @Spjungen no thats classical music and some jazz. rock (and blues) are about putting human emotion into music, not about making it sound like bach got his hands on a guitar.

  • @YanksFan162 No...composition is anytime you actually write a piece >>

Which Yngwie has done...he just happens to also be able to play fast.

Plus who says emotion and playing fast are mutually exclusive?

  • @Spjungen many great guitarists can play extremely fast and dont because they see no point in it (clapton, frusciante, edge, gilmour). and obviously composition is important. and how can you put emotion into your playing when you dont have the time to bend a string or hold on to a note because of the ridiculous speed you're playing at? malmsteen is all composition and no feeling or emotion at all. he might as well put the notes into a computer and let them play it...it would sound the same

  • @YanksFan162 of course it can sound "better" playing slower, like wyldes older stuff or as you mentioned Clapton, Frusciante.... (though frusciante sucks ass) but its all up to taste. This is like a discussion over whether you should play clean or distorted imo. Playing fast at the right place can take a good composition to a whole new level, where as "slow" bends etc. can make a great song out of shred. For the best of both worlds, listen to Paul Gilbert. No one fucks with him <3

  • @DarkFottloch i can't understand how you can utter wylde's name in the same vain as clapton or frusciante (who is one of the most influential and important guitaists of the last 20 years).just as you said, fast playing can make a good composition better. but it also sucks all human emotion out of it i guess it is a matter of taste-i prefer music that conveys emotion and feeling, whether fast OR slow. however, "shredding"and most fast playing is just an ego trip to show off, no passion needed.

  • @YanksFan162 Yeh but it depends on the focus of the song. Some songs are very emotion-based while others (or other parts of the same songs for that matter), are more focused on composition. When it's about composition, which it clearly is most of the time with Ygwie (which I appreciate because nowadays pretty much all music is in fact about emotion and all that crap) that's what you have to look for.

Also maybe the technical parts are his way of expression...you can't assume there's no emotion.
