@Lucyballet1994 Only 1 'top'class' company that stands comparison with companies from around the world - that's the RB of course. Nothing to do with population numbers or the pool from which to fish for good dancers. It can be traced back to very poor teaching standards in the UK. If I had a pound/dollar for every time a parent says 'my daughter's a ballet dancer, she passed some exams/she can do the splits'(!) I'd be a billionaire. Crap teachers R responsible 4 ruining potential dancers......
@Lucyballet1994 con'td.... and with the freedom of movement in Europe, Britain's ballet companies have many highly-trained 'foreigners' as principals and soloists. Even the Royal does not have ONE British-born and British-trained prima since Bussell retired, nor are we likely to get one in the foreseeable future. Apologies for venting!
@MrKLT1945 true :( not to be biased but my teacher's very good, one of her best friends is Wayne sleep (irrelevant to her teaching but I'm just being a show off :') ) dancers at my school are very well trained, but I agree there's so many 2nd rate dance schools in the UK, I have friends that go to them, I see them dance and you wouldn't even think they'd been trained in ballet. :| it's a disgrace, I wish I was a russian, top training there!
@Lucyballet1994 yes, if I could turn the clock back I would go for Russian method too! What happens here is many ppl 'teach' but don't tell their pupils the truth, which is that ballet exams having nothing to do with prof. training & what they do is actually mainly recreational exercise, not the entry ticket to pro. ballet. We have many crap prof. schools too. In Russia & other countries 90% of UK ballet teachers would not be allowed to teach as they are not ex-profs. Depressing.
America is soooo lucky having so many top-class ballet companies. This is awesome. Thanks for posting!
