  • this is a great trap for the small common man...

but what trap should a large common man use?

  • Had it out for a few days now, still no small common men trapped :L

  • is there a video on how you made that arrow quiver attached to your assault pack? i have a similar assault pack and would like to know if you have time. great video keep it up

  • Add some "barbwire" style twisted up sharpened metal to the kill wire with a few nails, nailed up from the bottom of trap for killing rabbits and larger squirrels, they won't pull off the trap.,

  • dave do you still do (dual survival?)

  • Very usefull nice video. Thanks, i never thought of a rat trap. Now i'm getting some.

  • great video. +1 on the cordage hole. learned that one the hardway. victor sells a "pro" rat trap thats made of plastic and its impossiable for the rodent not to activate the trigger when it goes for the bait.

  • The problem with regular rat traps is theyre made out of some kind of soft wood and after a few activations they tend to split the wood theyre made of. I take a chunk of oak and carefully remove the mechanism and stake it into the oak piece that Ive planed down to size.

  • I agree with Mozartghost1791, I would have never thought of this! Great video.

  • Is there a large man's kit?

  • @Mr13born79 The 'small' is describing the kit, not the man, dumbass!

  • Comment removed

  • @jimmyk1love That was the joke, genius.

  • Great idea I'm using this this summer as my friends and family enjoy squirrel from time to time

  • Excellent! Brilliant in fact. Never would have occurred to me.

  • thanks bro, appreciate you too

  • victor rat traps are great. the big ones.

  • wHY not bring the hole god dam wall mart for zi preper situasion for frig saks !!!

  • In Canada it's suggested in the hunters handbook to use rat traps for trapping for muskrat, weasel and squirrel, they work great.

  • Wow something so simple but so useful, thanks, never thought of that

  • If a skunk ends up in it, I hope it does run off LOL.

  • WSPANIAŁY FILM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fucking hell man.. after watching 3 videos i remembered this guy :D iv seen him with a buff bare foot fela on tv :D:D:D

  • High return for a small amount of weight and $. Good stuff man.

  • Great vids Dave You The Man!!....

  • Brilliant! So obvious, lots of us missed it.

  • id want the wire incase in stranded on an island then i can hang myself with it lol jk

  • do you have a video on that modular pack of yours? look interesting

  • how the fuck did i not ever think of rat traps! now i have 5 in my survival pack cheers.

  • Great idea. Paint it camo!

  • Common Man Trapping Kit?????

Isn't that otherwise known as pussy?

  • can you catch rabbits or hairs with the rat trap?

  • @painta76 no they would just run away with it... i recommend using a snare for rabbits and hares

  • one trap is 1.59$ in Americe here in Europe,Macedonia three traps of diferent sizes all in one pack is only around 2$,again great vid Dave!

  • can anyone tell me are all European bird eaduble, please someone tell me!

  • Dave thanks to this video,I have caught 5 birds and a sqirrel with rat traps and Im not stoping now, love the vids!

  • I have the same pouch, but I get 4-5 Nickle Adds (newspapers) put them in a zip lock bag and then in the pouch..TP works too...

  • Who will walk around with a unsheathe knife hanging around his neck waiting fro an accident to happen?

  • @sok8888 its not unsheathed, either a dark leather sheath or Kydex sheath. Do you really think he doesn't have a sheath on it?

  • any possibility of welding a nail at the end there, drilling a hole for it to sit in when you have it packed, and when it shuts. it would increase your chances of killing and trapping bigger game correct?

  • Great tip! I have no idea why I complicated things when I read about snares. K.I.S.S.

  • I actually have a rat trap in my pack but was always worried about the animal not being killed instantly and running away with the trap. Drill a hole in the trap and tie it off is genius, never even thought of it (duh). Dave you are a wealth of info. Thanx!!!

  • @EMMONS100 I also came up with the idea to in addition to setting this as a trap is to tie a string to the trapping end, and that string to a stick. then using that one stick, setup a secondary trap with a rock setup like a deadfall. Trap is set, it pulls the stick, and then drops on the animal. Set the stick on a smooth rock to make it even smoother of a pull down.

  • love the intro song!

  • If you're looking to add a top notch survival expert from the Canadian area to you're site, i highly recommend you look into Allan Bow beauchamp.

  • Well he's not young enough for service, so maybe jail?

  • i screw mine head high on the tree. be sure to drill smaller pilot hole first. small dot of pnut butter w/ a single pnut a few inches above the trap and just the scent of pbutter on the spring.

  • hes right those big rat traps work because i caught a 2 pound grey squirrel in one today and be sure to tie somesort of line to it

  • A perfect trap for tree squirrels.

  • @MrSouthernRacist im gonna guess itll be before the fireants get to it,about 10 minutes

  • my luck i would catch a skunk

  • he ate codi lane

  • DUAL SURVIVAL!!!!!!!!!1111111!!!!!

  • Right on! I love using rat traps for small game. Squirrels, Mink, Weasel. I have also found that if you buy the "JAWS" mouse/rat traps they work for small game birds like dove and I got alot where I live.

  • When I was in the Army, I use to set rat traps in front of my fox hole site. Let then low craw up to my position!

  • work on rabbit too. we have small rabbits around here and they are pretty tasty.

  • Really ? everyone watching this is surprised you can use rat traps for trapping small animals ? REALLY ? Then they gonna talk about surviving, you got no chance peoples lol

  • @pac6010 i was thinkn the same man,,every comment they act lik its a new invention lol

  • @pac6010 srsly, if people don't already know then they should never learn anything new. my motto is: never do anything you've never done before.

  • @leloodallasmultipass Just pointing out peoples delusions when they start talking about "surviving" I got another tip for them too, water bottles can be used to carry liquids, like oil or tuna juice or even grape soda.

  • @pac6010 srsly, I mean, only survivalists who have already been out in the field are commenting on these videos... no random people who might find this info refreshing.

  • @leloodallasmultipass haha , you really don't see the stupidity of people having to be surprised that rat traps can be used to trap small animals do you ?

  • @pac6010 oh, i'm totally with you. because a city based accountant who happens upon this video should be considered stupid for commenting on his first survivalist video. Especially if he's never even held a rat trap. I am impressed with how well you know everyone who has watched this video.

  • @leloodallasmultipass No, no, no that's what you said. I never assumed anything except the lack of common sense that some of my fellow primates have. That is all.

  • i like that i never thought of that im going to try that this summer

  • Now if I could only TRAP A SMALL COMMON MAN!!! LOL...jk...great video!

  • no shit... i thought i was the only one to do this with the rat traps...

  • OMG ITS THE DUDE FROM TV!!!!!1!!!111

  • u sexy ass bitch =]

  • @glutaminepowder HAHAHA!!

  • Dual survival! was wondering why he looked familiar

  • thank you sir

  • right on dave.

  • LOL! Rat traps for survival, never crossed my mind. xD

  • Wow. I never would have thought of Rat Traps... But now that I see them, I think there will be some in my survival pack.

  • @Mozartghost1791 oh for sure!

  • What brand alice pack do you carry or what allice pack do you recomend?

  • attach treble hooks to trap frame and use in water to catch crab, lobster or octopus

  • @mrhulot101 octopus maybe.. crabbing is far more efficient with an exit denial trap. Not poo pooing your idea; if it comes down to it its a good suggestion. Im Just being a you tuber.

  • Always a good idea to drill a hole in your traps, or add an eyescrew so it can e anchored with a cord to a fixed point or a drag. Oftentimes animals will get caught in these by a limb or tail and escape with your trap

  • Is there a website for those kinds of rat traps?

  • @NTtheLion wal-mart bro. lol

  • Is that bag on your site? I couldn't find it.

  • I'm surprised you didn't boil your snare wire to take the finish off. Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • Just an added note about the Rat Traps, they would be good for fire starting as well. Plus you could use the beeswax to coat the traps for easy reuse cleaning, and also protecting the wood from moisture for firefighting :)

    I'm so glad I found Dave's Channel. I'm jones'en for more Dual Survival :)

    :P

  • finnaly someone who understands the true usefullness of rat traps

  • "20 rats" dislike this video... Rat trap is one of the best survival ideas!

  • Great idea... Im going to add it to my kit right now....

  • How would one go about preparing a squirrel for breakfast? Hmmm, that's a ponderment? Very carefully, I would wager. Given their propensity to carry the plague. Normally, I prefer my meat medium rare, but in this case, make mine very well done. Crispy and charred.

  • iv started watching your videos and i have to say..... I LIKE YOUR STYLE BROTHER. i plan to watch more of your videos so keep them coming.

  • I think your videos are great. There is a lot of crap on you tube but I like your approach. AND the fact that you carry a simple scandi on your neck and not a huge tactical prybar!

  • @pnfcrac You should have seen the ridiculous Tom Brown Tracker knife he had for a while.

  • I've been pondering this idea for months, i'm sold now.

  • Nice post, will add this to my kit.

  • Genius !!!!

  • I caught a dove, sparrow, and a rabbit with rat traps

  • GREAT TACTICS MAN, YOU RULE!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE TIPS!!

  • i wish i had a friend like him :(

  • I clicked on this video because I mistook the word common for condom

  • @TheYTChronicles I clicked on this video because I thought it was about the book mantrapping by Ragnar Benson, and if you think the book is a howto guide on how to kidnap, trap, and in otherwords red neck texas chainsaw massacre people, you'd be correct.

  • DAVE!

  • Is that a blade around your neck? Seem's a little unsafe, what if you tripped and shanked yourself? No bueno.

  • @SheepDog707 It's in a sheath.

  • @SheepDog707 its in a hardened sheath made just so that does not happen.

  • @0RebelRider0 Thanks, someone answered me a week ago. Surely you seen his response before my question.

  • these are good to catch birds as well

  • could you stick em in a tree to get grey squirel ?

  • Somabeech!!! I've hunted, hiked, and lived in rural areas (use rat & mice traps) all my life- and never considered using one as a "survival" trap!! Great site, great ideas! 5-star!

  • Have you noticed a decrease in the wildlife or trees turning yellow. They look good behind you? I'm just wondering about the weather modifications and the Congress voting to allow engineering to dump over 80 million metric tons of aluminum barium and other harmful chemicals in our atmosphere? Do you know about these 700 experiments and if so what do you think about them? Thanks again sir.

  • i have rat and mouse traps in my ruck. there cheap, light weight and a 100% life saver. great work dave once again your biggest fan.

  • Great video indeed..

  • Black Walnut dye would help camo and desent the traps

  • DUAL SURVIVAL YOUR ASOME!!!

  • if you need a mojave desert tester I volunteer

  • COOL GHOST!

  • you could use the rat as bait for your snars

  • Very nice ending. I know EXACTLY to an extent of what you are talking about. and yes Time IS running out. I want to keep in contact with you sir. Survival IS a MUST!

  • Ever since I saw this vid Dave over added two big rat traps to my pack. Thanks man. I learn something new from every vid you post

  • Survival training for murderers. A rat trap?? why not get a cat?? The kitty is more efficient than your 1 buck traps and you don't need to carry em around either. wtf. you see how you make no sense in the efficiency department.

  • @whereismywater wutlol.

  • “And The Rat Trap” Simple Great Idea Thanks for the Info!

    (︶_︶)

  • I have always wondered if a big rat trap would work for small game like that in a survival situation . defiantly going to give this a try !

  • im on a search and rescue team in the civil air patrol air force auxilary, any tips for searching.

  • I wonder at the very end, if he was talking about that T.V. show with Cody???

  • Wow! That's so simple and brilliant!

  • Thanks for the great video Dave! A common man's rat trap is so simple that many of us would never consider it. Cheap, light, effective, and doesn't waste calories. I think many people over-complicate survival with flashy techniques that in the end just waste time, calories, and money. Thanks again!

  • Great video Dave! Thanks!

  • Dave you rule,i wish you were my dad

  • where do you get that backpack

  • @MiniHoopChallenge alice pack frame (with just some pouches on it)

  • i also use the rat traps. they are strong. it can catch rabbits also. i use the rat trap to trigger a larger trap or snare.

  • this guys on tv on dual survival why in the hell is he on youtube????

  • @COMPUT3RGAM3R

Perhaps he started on youtube before he got dual survival????

  • @COMPUT3RGAM3R why not have a Youtube? He covers so much extra on this channel and with more detail. Plus no show last forever.

  • hey dave i really like your bag. what kind of bag is it?

  • I love this guy. I've been viewing alot of video on snares and this, by far, is the most straight forward one. Why set up snares when you can get mouse/rat traps?

  • Great point.

  • where did u get your backpac

  • Hey Dave, you should check out my videos on the use of rat traps here in the pacific northwest. Got me a nice breakfast! Love your videos bro! Jim

  • Rats. They're not just for breakfast anymore.

But seriously folks, you could put two cans of spam and 3 cans

of potted meat product in that same pouch and it still wouldn't be as nasty as eating a rodent. I've eaten lots of squirrels and my fair share of other exotic small game. It's why I never hit the wilderness without a lot of lightweight munchies. Chocolate. Tobacco. Maybe even a flask of brandy - for medicinal purposes. And oh yeah - a GUN. At least one.

  • @smuckwap The problem with carrying potted meat instead of the traps is that eventually (and quite soon) you will have consumed those and have nothing left but a couple empty cans, where-as the traps allow you to repeatedly catch game over a time frame much longer than those canned food stuffs would ever last. The traps are a much better long-term survival solution.

  • where can i get a backpack like that???

  • you should have seen the LARGE rat my step dad got in one of those !

Scared him ! and he was airborne ARMY . LOL

  • Thanks for sharing, really like

  • Theres nothin, and I mean NOTHING like put a backpack on and go to the wood for 3 days.Nothing come near to that. Not even a night with 3 hookers and 100g of purest bolivian coke.

  • thanks ,good tips..

  • oh! no ! don't keel the litl chip-e-monks

  • very good idea.... what about painting them cammo or olive drab... wonder if the paint chemicals would hinder the trap?.... excellent vid.... AIRBORNE!

  • how to survive in forest:

    1 dvd player

    2 pathfinder dvd

  • so crazy that you use actual rat traps. Me and my dad work in pest control. Just one thing i would suggest. Trade those cheaply made super market traps for some pro grade Victor traps, preferably with the yellow plastic trigger. not only does it has 2 sensitivity settings but its less likely to get stuck do to cold or rust.

  • @hardhatg69 also, best bait that i know of is peanut butter. Mice/rats love it and squirrels and chipmunks will eat it too. Mixing a little chocolate in it usually helps too<<<then again you could probably use a reeses, lol

  • i carry guitar strings as snares.

  • Great Video Dave, and to improve the killing power of these traps you can lever up the end of the spring (the end by the picture of the rat) and glue in place a small block. This hugely increases the traps power. Another tip is to glue in a 'chin bar' just inside of where the arm slams down, so when the arm slams down, the animals chin is forced up when the bar hits it, helping to snap the neck. Cant takethe credit for this, search online for modified pro victor rat trap for better description.

  • dude, you need to sell that backpack with all of the stuff. I can assure you I'd buy one because YOU made it. Great idea with that backpack.

  • Great videos!

  • man, seriously ive doubled my survival knowledge since ive been watching your vids. thanks dave keep it up!

  • I feel stupid now.... never thought of it... lol

  • I'm not Lying. As Soon As I seen this vid. I went Across the Street to the Dollar Store and bought 2 rat Trap's. Genius Idea. This Common Man thanks you Dave

  • well this video was misleading.

  • learn to make a modern day box trap. it is more efficient and can catch a multiplicity of different sized animals per size of box. this includes bear.

  • these are great traps i use them all the time and they almost always work. just please remember where you put them because I set 3 of them up before nightfall and in the morning i found 2 of them. One of the traps had a squirrel in it. The third one found me because in the night leaves covered it and I stepped on it barefoot. I just glad it got my toe nail and didnt break my toe lol. USE THESE TRAPS for food, pests control and survival. great video dave keep posting

  • Hey Brother Dave,A squeeze pack of peanut butter in the pack with the rat traps is great bait to catch food game and is easy to use.

  • this guy looks like the guy from dual survival. im gonna feel dumb if it is haha

  • @kave213vids it is

  • @kave213vids it is dude

  • Do you have something incomon with Bear Gryls?

  • In all seriousness the rat traps are a great idea

  • I came here looking to learn how to trap "small common man" ;P

  • does earwax work .
