  • I haven't owned a tv since the 90s. But Youtube is almost as bad as far as wasting your life goes. Obviously a ton of useful stuff here but a ton of garbage as well.I find myself watching things that do not serve me in any way. Just a distraction, a vacation from my own consciousness, just as he states.

  • I totally don't watch tv. I find it insanely boring, really.

  • Have been wanting to cut out TV for years. Gave up about six months ago. (not through choice it just blew up! lol) Since then I have been able to stop smoking, I have learnt my first song on my guitar (re-education through labour) and have read 3 books on meditation, investing in shares and boxer Jack Johnson. Aint gonna lie. First 2 months were a bitch. It was like I had an arm missing. Do miss it a little but refuse to go back. Too much living to do! I would recomend it.

  • Funny... I didn't see him ragging on TV when Oprah was helping him sell books by putting him on her show.

  • @lekoman it was like a conversation and we were present and they did an online conversation FREE so that's a pretty lame argument. He is talking about watching movies and series and when you get into a different world and forget reality. There are people who watch TV all day. They have no lives and are miserable. And it's peoples choice if they buy the book.I know I never will because there are so many videos of his teaching.I don't think he is doing any harm.

  • @lekoman if you look at so much of the other stuff he's said about culture and put what he's saying here in its true context - he's not ragging on tv per se, just what it's like at worst. just like 'thinking' tv is a valuable tool for education and communication, but sometimes it can take over our consciousness in an unhealthy way or adjust individual values to the detriment of all society.

  • we watch life on tv instead of living it ourself.

  • I LOVE T.V. I have learned so much from it, and have entertained myself with tears, laughter and thought!

  • I despise TV most days. I don't even watch it and when I do, most of the time it's muted and I'm using it for information that doesn't require voices. I used to be just the opposite, but it robs you of your own intellect. The commercials drive me right up a wall. I do occasionally enjoy History or the Science Channel, or sometimes the financial channels. That's about it.

  • never believe anything until it's officially denied. you r watcing the build up 2 world war 3, now being created as a distaction from the corruption that has ruined everything. they have always done this."the bad guy" routine.do what the master says, no fear.the media is owned by the saame scum that are doing this.

  • Indians called it `the evil eye`.

  • basically hypnotizing..

  • A couple of days ago my father went psychotic because there was something wrong with the cabel-Tv. It was quite disturbing seeing him act like that. I haven't watched tv in 8 years or something now :)

  • @tiatdivad good one :)

  • Anyone familiar with Frank Zappa's song " I Am The Slime Oozing Out Of Your TV Set "..If not give it a listen. It was done a long time ago

  • Well, no one's forcing you to own/watch one. I don't. I saw one a couple of times and was amazed at all the shit on it. You want to be educated/interested, everything worth watching is on/can be downloaded from the web. Sheeple.

this kind of live is... so, so endless... ich dont like living so..

when i nothing do, nothing change i see. but i want a CHANGE in my live! but i've got no more Power...

  • Not for me. When I watch T.V. I make the problem I'm watching, my problem, and I actively try to solve it for the people involved. I get WAY too invested emotionally! Ha! It's why I don't watch TV anymore!

  • Thank you for opening my eyes now shafts of light are starting to appear god bless you mr tolle

  • FUUUUCK !

  • I enjoy having my television on in the background while I am enjoying typing this on my computer right now.

  • @hanjess1

i did the same thing......about 6 years ago......it totally free's you up doesn't it???people dont get me for doing it because its like "are you not bored, you need to know what's going on in the world".....and i say "if i want to know whats REALLY going on in the world, ill get it on the net"......they look at me like im from another planet...iv begun to think i actually am from somewhere else because i dont relate to anything material!!!

  • The news hahaha

  • tv eckhart tolle is just another television for you

  • the centers for spiritual living have been teaching this stuff for ages.

  • mr. horrorflesh has had an education i suppose...

  • @mansiepansie hahaha your so right, what a retard

  • What the world not need, is yet another religious leader. Fuck You Mr. Tolle. Your knowledge is kindergarten psychology. Ever considered taken an education?

  • @horrorflesh wake up :)

  • Comment removed

  • thats my problem i think i watched too much tv.. : ) I warn people against letting their kids watch copious amounts of tv but ofcourse no one likes to be told aye... never try to wake a sleeping man.

  • looks like yoda

  • you know what Eckhart? I totally agree with muting commercials as you stated in A New Earth, and it has been very beneficial. But I won't stop watching though goddamnit! There are some programs that required a lot of creative effort on many people's part in order to present a collection of artistic media packaged into entertainment. TV is only bad for you if you're not selective over what you watch. Let educational value be primary and entertainment secondary.

  • @ShadowCrowX i allways turn off commercials and have stoped listining to the radio as it is a constant stream of 1 thing to the next. I often think what life would be like before tv... i am sure better..but i would miss movies

  • @fogoderek i just wish the DFS sale would end eckharts so right i turn them off now

  • @ronatholl Haven't you just heard on the TV??? DFS Sale ends this weekend, QUICK get down their fast!!!! Or wait tioll Monday when it's back on!!!! :) I love Mr Tolle, what a guy.

  • wow i m not watching tv no more

  • amazing

  • Tolle - The new Osho - The sea ist salty everywhere, isn't ?

    Always NOW ... yeah ...

  • @TV108

    Wonderful acknowledgement !!!!!!

  • It's called "vedging-out".That's what we call it in Australia. It's really going into a vegetative state.A mezmerised, vegetative state of conscience, barely mindful of the surroundings of your reality (if at all mindful/aware of the surrounds) & becoming open, even focussed on the message or "propaganda" coming out of that telescreen.Next it's become your reality!

Are we beginning to understand the evils of TV? I hope so, moderation or none at all.

"...We've got to kill the baby-sitter!"

  • Thank you Eckhart for providing these pointers to becoming more present.

  • this only happens if you are unaware of the mind control of tv..

. if u watch in conscious awareness u know the techniques they use to program and can protect yrself against it .. plus u can actually use the problems of others that u witness as a challenge to solving and understanding the issues of others.

  • This guy is a joke right?

  • @antoniosss100 - no, hes a highly commended spiritual teacher..

  • @antoniosss100 haha ur an idiot

  • This man did not invent the idea of escapism!

Why is he acting like it is one of his discoveries?

Most of what he says is meaningless junk.

  • @Jorbz150 The truth that he points out are things that he discovered for himself.

  • television...face book...isn't that interesting...

  • Overanalyzation of the subject of tv viewing ? Possibly .

  • @slLLyhumans Hey, Eckhart says every thought is only one small perspective. So you can say many things about television. What Eckhart talks about here is how we are addicted to television in order to relax. LIke someone can be addicted to beer. It does not mean television is bad. He watches it him self :)

  • yom!!

  • I find it funny that everyone who doesn’t believe that there is a conspiracy, hasn’t done the research, because they are too lazy etc. And everyone who has is screaming Bloody Mary after doing intense ACTUAL research (government documents like civilian inmate labor camps, the national security act, the patriot act, project mockingbird, the belligerence act, operation garden plot, REX84, UN Documents, etc etc etc trust me there are way way way more.) The people deny because the TV tells them too.

  • @SunnyLovetts I don't believe gossip, even if it's written down, broadcast on TV, and sold at an enormous profit. But I do believe this:

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." ~ Buddha

"The Kingdom of God is within." ~ Jesus Christ

I think we're born with truth meters, but sometimes it's hard to face the problems in the world. It's much more fun to face the solutions.

  • @SunnyLovetts

its because they are under the global elitists control.Iv given up talking to people.no one listens ,they just dismiss.

  • @SunnyLovetts Please consider the long view. Perhaps there is not "a" conspiracy, but countless conspiracies, all jockeying for position. Sometimes one group gets the upper hand, sometimes another. Some groups might wield significant power for a few centuries.

I propose there's no single age-old conspiracy, but a single ancient problem: the way human minds are used — by selfish memes. I do not mean memes for selfishness; I mean the memes evolved to endure. And we are their reproductive system.

  • @NeosimianSapiens Bingo. Except lets not leave out the fact that humans aren't the only species in which this happens. Many if not all species have some sort of social ladder used to determine status. Those at the top are in charge, those at the bottom do all the work.

  • @v1k1n95 You speak of dominance based primarily on physical (that is, genetic) attributes. I am speaking of memes, not genes. In any case, neither genes nor memes "care" who gets on top. The beings serve only to propagate the replicating information. (A celibate priest is well suited to spread religious memes, but typically can't spread gene-based replicators.)

So the ancient "conspiracy" isn't a human thing. We're merely substrates of natural (information) selection. Hard on the ego, eh?

  • Natives called a television an `evil eye`. Soon people can only laugh in front of this mad thing. It rippes family's to pieces who can no longer connect directly, only true identifying with the thing that is on the screen. Its a tool for the goverment to make us numb and passive. Its poison when the ego still got a hold on us.

Because of the distance between seeing world problems on a screen and the `real` problem makes people irrisponsible and lose the ability to really chance anything..

  • 1:06 to 1:18 is hilarious!!!

  • @ruaryschool, that is a good point, It is possible to not be present, I see it all the time, People walking around but not actually connected with the energy of the body, they are lost in there mind thinking about the next moment of past or future or whatever else that takes there attention! People who ARE present seem to enjoy life much more because they don't look to the next moment for happiness, they are as they are! But, what tolle is talking about is going more deeply into the present mom

  • 0:00 to 0:10 LMAO!!! we're still staring at the screen for hours on end...its called YouTube!!!

  • Back to the game analogy...Aren't YOU trying to defeat something within a game of tetris or solitaire? Your EGO is still heavily involved with winning or completing the game to show off how awesome it still is. Being present with nature is different because you aren't in competition with it. Just experiencing it.

  • @thebrotemarkles Excellent understanding!

  • @thebrotemarkles....like a tsunamie right? you are not in a competition with it,you're just experiencing it.. :D

  • @thebrotemarkles wow x

  • @thebrotemarkles - Watching TV and playing a game are not the same. Watching TV is passive. You give up your mind to the entertainment. Gaming is wholly active. You are competing.

  • @thebrotemarkles I disagree. There is no inherent inner objective that applies to everyone who plays a simple game such as those you mentioned. "To show off how awesome it still is", what about for pure enjoyment without consideration of external attention? What exactly is being defeated in tetris or solitaire? These games could simply utilize our natural faculties and exercise the brain. Ego is the intention to use the game to express dominance over others, which is NOT inherent.

  • @thebrotemarkles

You can play cause of the fun of the game .. no matter losing or winning

its always you , who makes the different

  • @thebrotemarkles I think as long as you enjoy the whole process step by step with the game then its just as good.

  • I have been wondering why Eckhart hasn't acknowledged that it is pretty much impossible for you to NOT be present, if you went to someone I'll give you a thousand pounds to not be present, well you can't do it can you? That's why I don't understand practising presence, practise means past and future (I am doing this so I can get there, in the future) so it can't be presence. Isn't it best realise that you cannot not be present? Thank god there's is no effort in that. Any input appreciated

  • Beyond Karma. com

This guys knows it. its impossible to be now becuase you are now. So just be aware for the thoughts in the future even if they tell you to be present. Those are the things you away of the now. So just invite your feelings and then release on them.

  • Thanks for that... looks really good.. have a real good peak at it tomorow... cheers, peace

  • Thanks for that, much apreciated

  • @ruaryscool the word practice actually comes from the greek word praxis, which means "the activity of free men." It meant action...and that is the sense in which Eckhart talks about practicing the power of now...not meaning "working on it," but enacting it, and embodying it...Even though, physically, I may be present at this type writer, my mind is engaged in something that is unrelated to the moment, so it is not present in the now...it is relating to the past and looking toward the future..

  • Well said. I'll consider that well. I am more now concerned with surrendering 'my story' and ending the search, allowing my self to enter the present moment more fully. See how it goes? :)

  • @ruaryscool: as I understand it, Eckhart sees the practice of presence as a portal out of a "reality" created by the mind, and into the reality of being. Being is always present, but that does not prevent the mind from persuading us otherwise. So the trick is to escape the clutches of the mind, and Eckhart uses practising presence as a means of critically weakening the mind's grip.

  • You're making it more complicated than it really is.

  • presence means to transcend the form creating mind. To not be present is to be trapped in forms created by the mind, and by trapped I mean you are attached to them, along for the ride, unable to be the observing silence. To be present is to be the silence.

  • I wonder what Eckhart thinks about simple, addictive computer games such as tetris or freecell. These can take you into "the Now"--conscious, aware, yet mindless--for quite a while.

It seems to me striving for "in the now" per se is of little value because ultimately you're just mesmerizing yourself by the current activity whatever it may be, so your mind-free consciousness isn't available to you. You've just replaced being "lost in thought" with being "lost in the present". Is that any better?

  • Games Can You Make You Present But after that stay present

  • are u telling me the legions of retarded pricks on xbox live are enlightened? i think not.

  • tyvm Eckhart. You are wonderful!

  • Why is it when someone puts a comment about what they think and feel many fans or viewers feel offended. Watch my video and see whats on the walls and the back ground.Thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • Why do you think he's strange? Also, why do you have a problem with guidance and learning?

  • you miss the whole point #1 and #2 this teaching has been around long before Tolle...sounds to me what you need is a belief system, you should go become a mormon or something. thats what i get from your question, you dont know what to make of it because your not ready to hear it, so go feed the homeless or something do a good deed that you can tell us all about....geeeeez what a moron

  • hear hear !

  • That was awesome! Smart ass. This guy is great.

  • Nah, thats ok, its the only thing it can do after all ;-)

  • Do you have the talk about collective insanity? If you could upload it would be great.
