  • Hi! I totally subbed! I am a super newbie with editing and have a t2i and I just don't understand all the Video lingo; yet. OK, I didn't find the answer in your vids. What format do u export the video in in order to keep the HD video quality when exporting?

  • Neumann I have problem with vegas, it's not that big problem but I feel that I changes my video look, after I shoot a video on my 550d I throw it to AE to color grade it and after that I render it in AVI and it comes in a large file size, after that I put my video in vegas to edit the whole video I want after rendering I notice color changing from the result I did in AE why is that ?

  • Y would u use 23.976 when u could have clicked 24 (film) for the frame rate?

  • @M4GICSL3IGHTZ

23.976 fps is the actual framerate at which the T2i records when placed in its 1080p 24p recording configuration. Most cameras that record in 24p are actually recording in 23.976 fps; it's just easier and more succinct to write it as 24. Occasionally, you'll actually find footage shot at exactly 24 fps, but it's rare.

The same actually tends to be true for professional "30fps" video; most is shot at 29.97 fps instead of the full 30.

  • one question, say if I editing my footage in aae for like vfx etc then I did cc and all that in vegas would the quality get worse?

  • Urgggh, still lagging in Sony Vegas 11 after following instructions.... Although it's perfect when I open it up under Windows media player so that's very promising... What am I doing wrong?! Just want to be able to edit without video constantly lagging! TY

  • These tutorials are incredibly helpful on so many aspects of filmaking! Thank you!

  • If i export file in mpeg2 i wont' hear any audio. Could you help me?

  • @imjustthesexmacine Make sure you export the audio clip, it's in the custom render settings.

  • @Neumannfilms Now it's ok! An other thing: What version of mojo are you using? i know that red giant doesn't make software for sony anymore

  • do u up the render bit rate...if ure using Q scale -16. originally i was around 45, do i go up to like 68, 70?

  • @SevinTV Yeah, for QScale, if you want to maintain that higher bit rate, up the export bit rate.

  • Try to compare raw image in preview mode of the program (in 32 bit videolevels) and raw image ufter export in mpeg2. Exported image looks like more contrasted, you should remember that when you CC videos. Maby it better to work in 32 full range- you will have the same preview and exported looks. Thanks

  • @tihon84 Ou. If you work in 8 bit or 32 (video levels), and want to see in the preview mode the same contrast as an exported file, you have to add brightness and contrast (0,8\0,15\1.00) as last filter to each clip. I use this methode and it works. But dont forget to turn off Brigt..and contr, when you start rendering video.

Finally we have fast render and picture that we expected. Thanks.

  • So I should make this before I import the clip to say for example After Effects?

  • My gosh! dude thank you so much! This was so interesting and helpful.

  • AVCHD FTW!

  • Hm. Usually, if I want a letterbox, I change the project resolution according to the aspect ratio. For example, if I want to edit a video to be in 2.35:1, I make the project resolution 1920x820.

  • @Ilikelimpbizkit Yeah, you can do either. Good luck burning 1920x820 footage to Blu Ray though. I only do the way you mentioned if I'm going to Vimeo.

  • @Neumannfilms Also, do you color grade outside of Sony Vegas Pro 10 since Red Giant stopped support for Sony Vegas (I have 64bit version)? Maybe you color grade now in After Effects CS5? I am just wondering because I am forced to color grade in After Effect lossless render then import into Sony Vegas Pro 10 for editing and using the vectorscope and waveform to keep the colors in range.

  • Hey Luke, Thank you for the video, i just got Sony Vegas Pro 10, is running on Windows 7, 6gb ram, 3.00ghz, dual core proc...Should i also covert my files to mpeg-2 as you showed in the video...thanx in advance i'm a beginner.

  • Luke, when I drag all my footage into the timeline and render them all as .avi, what template should I choose?

And when my rendering is done, it saves as one movie so I can't edit them. (this is before I edit my footage though)

I don't know what to do.

  • I had a question, so basically you said you have to render the raw footage so you then can edit them in the final project, correct? I was just a bit confused, that means you basically have to render everything twice right? How long does it usually take you to edit a short film with around 50 shots? Thanks for everything!

  • My version of vegas crashes every time I try to do this. Is it due to the bit rate?

  • plz from where i can get ( misfire ) i use sony vegas pro 10 - 32 bit

  • Hi. ive been watching your videos and im a big fan. I just got one question, i hope you can help me. What would be the minimum requirements for a pc to do a render with this quality ?

Imma rookie and i would love to make videos like yours.

  • can u tell me how u have mojo for vegas..do u have a 32 bit cpu?

  • how did you upload the video to youtube, did it take a long time, cause mine is, i have the canon t3i and i was trying to uplaod the video to youtube but it's been uploading from yesterday and still nothing, please help.........

  • more tutorials here

  • Can you tell us how to export 1080p in Premiere CS3? Thanks a lot!

  • Can you get the same film look with sony vegas?

  • @nelsono415 He is using sony vegas in this tutorial :)

  • @heinygore2 Oh wow how stupid of me lol. Thank you! appreciate it!

  • You the man Luke. What's up with sharpening in post? Just wondering what you do to tighten up your videos so they look like you're using a RED. lol.

PS - What are the basic specs on your computer?

  • Thank you sir, i almost love you, amazing tutorial, amazing, i have the t3i, and this helped me allot, plus i know how to work a little bit with sony vegas XD thanks! and please you should upload more tutorials in the future, there really helpfull!

  • what codec should i encode the 550d files to?

  • SO, I figured out not to use frame blending but i have a new question.. Im using Adobe Premiere Pro and when Im rendering it, It saved audio and video seperate (MPEG 2 BLURAY). I went into my settings and found Multiplexer, It has TS or None. I selected TS and It now render's all together but saves as an AVC HD file and not a Mpeg2. what am I doing wrong..?

  • This helped so much. I use adobe premiere pro. Should I use frame bending?

  • 01:45 Just press the "folder" icon to select your footage and make Sony Vegas match the media settings automatically

  • You make me feel gay

  • Hi I am recording in 720 60fps.. I did exactly what the video says but when I import the video I cannot see it but I can hear it, I just want to keep it in 60fps but when I convert it into AVI or MPEG and import it into Vegas it lowers it to 30fps?? can you help me??

  • i did this exact thing but my video chokes a little and when i try to put it in after effects it crashes. i wanna find out the best settings to render t2i footage in. I have sony vegas 10 and i run on windows 7

  • I'm using Premiere Pro CS5 and have always just edited the native files fine. Am I losing quality by doing this? I've never had a need to re-encode..Always just dragged and dropped?

  • With Sony Vegas Pro 10, you don't have to re-encode the T2i files. Did you stop doing that?

  • @KnivesMonroe No, I don't. Color Correction in After Effects takes over so it's not like I'm saving any more time though. Vegas 10 is great with native .mov files though!

  • Really nice rendering settings. These settings allow my pc (which is not the slowest one but however) to render the T2i footage using 32bit floating point as while I was trying to render in mp4 at about 20 mbps bitrate and 32bit I got the low memory warning at about 20%. Thank you and I think you can make a tutorial just focusing on rendering in very high quality combining it with the qscale filming, you know what I mean. Props!

  • Really glad I found this tutorial and your videos are amazing. Thanks a lot.

  • I've always used VBR thinking it would give me better results. Is there any specific reason you go with CBR?

  • @Knoptop I have honestly just liked the results of a CBR better.

  • @Neumannfilms Hey Luke, please respond to my question if you can.

The big question: Are these render settings for Sony Vegas proper to render T2i footage shot at qscale -16? May I have to increase the bitrate?

    Thank you.

  • @whoisrikk1 I was meaning if I have to increase from 35,000,000 bps to 45, 50 mbps.. in the render settings options or 35 mbps for qscale -16 with ML is enough? The T2i shots itself at around 45 mbps without any hack, thus, shooting at qscale -16 which lets say its 60 mpbs (I don't know for sure) and then render with these settings at 35 mbps in vegas, is there any improvement in quality as rendering at 35 mbps you get 35 mpbs and you lost the extra bitrate from ML? Theoretical this is correct..

  • @Neumannfilms when you are converting the clips to a different codec do you do each clip individually or do them all together and space them out in the timeline but save as one big clip?

  • @Neumannfilms Does Sony Vegas edit these files natively without encoding these days? Thus there is no need for encoding correct?

  • @YababaVideo Totally. Even the latest Vegas Platinum at $99 or whatever works great with native files.

  • what does the 32-bit floating point (video levels) part do?
