hey dreman maybe you're right. where did u get that, i couldn't find anything relating on wikipedia. certainly it would apply. in fact i remember one show i think it was after playing me262, the singer shouting "is that heavy enough for ya?!" great moment in rock n roll right there. i think my explanation applies too, btw. when they first came on the scene they were unique and blew a lot of people away...do they still begin every concert with stairway to the stars?
When one plays a Blue Oyster Cult's track on RealPlayer , a review pops up saying the following and I'm quoting :
"Intellectual , smart-ass Metal made by critics . For proof that Blue Oyster Cult rules , listen to "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll" . "Godzilla" , the Kronos logo , "Secret Treaties" , laser lights - what more does a wizard want from a band ? "
Their lyrics indicate that they are serious about what they're saying, not just promoting a gimmick. So what is their underlying philosophy? Dharma's riffs were always demonically addictive.
Bridging the gap between their psychedelic roots and future embodiment of heavy, I still have a hard time choosing this or Secret Treaties to play while traversing the universe. It's a testament to their pure originality that they came after Sabbath, yet managed to trump even them at their own smoke-drenched game.
Off their Columbia debut in 72, this direct, hypnotic & veering classic [That opened the pre "Spectres" Live Shows],revealed along with the rest of this stellar LP,that BOC artisticly,were swimming in their own Cosmic Whirlpool,while most of the rest of the pack were treading water in the Community Swimming Pool. Collaborations with non BOC members like R.Meltzer on this trk. were a practice that would continue; providing a continual octane boost injection to the Collective Creative Maelstrom.
that 1 note over and over is so addictive

anyone else think the ending of this song sounds eerily similar to the ending of "Can't You Hear Me Knockin?" by the Stones?

@thefoppa1000
The opening riff is very much like Sugar The Road by Ten Years After.

These guys were FAR FAR ahead of the pack....they really created their own mythology, not many bands can say that.

some similarities to Deep Purple Highway Star also. God I loved this album in college.

Actually I think the opening riff is a cop from Ten Years After's Sugar The Road

The intro to this song reminds me of the riff to La Grange by ZZ Top.
