Talk about timing! Just this week, Alan Chambers held an emergency meeting at Exodus HQ trying to save the "ex-gay" ministry from financial ruin.
Megachurches have pulled out left and right, their most recent Love Won Out conference in Houston attracted a pitiful 450 people. It's obvious that this ex-gay thing just isn't working anymore.
Now Alan's admitting that there aren't "hundreds of thousands" of "ex-gays"; not than anyone really believed in the first place.
Sounds like Allen chambers is being deceptive being divided against himself. He does not know how to let go, and judge himself. He still thinks like a human seeing a sexuality, and not like God who does not see us as male or female bond or free Jew or Greek. When Allen thinks more like a humble dog he will not care one way or the other what sexuality whoever is.
@shittyfagg I'm sure Dave, in using the word "patients," didn't mean gay people were mentally ill. Put your antenna down; people don't speak with the precision of a legal document.
Also, you made it sound as though Christians are the only ones fixated on gays. That isn't true, gay people are killed all the time in fundamentalist Islamic countries. Sad, but true.
It sounded to me that Chambers' point is just the simple and straightforward one that one can control behavior but not various feelings, just as straight guys can't control lusts after women but can keep themselves from f*cking them. There's nothing deep or perplexing about that position, David. In fact, that seems obviously true. I'm not agreeing with other things the guy has said, just that part.
The Muslim response to gay men is public hangings. Fairly typical of their solution for many things including conversion to another religion or denunciation of Islam. Kill, Kill, Kill - it's the way of Islam.
Chambers said that "99.9% don't change their sexual orientation". He still believes you can (and should) "quit" the "behavior" or "lifestyle". Still, it's a step closer to telling the truth.
The "ex-gay" movement is more prominent in Christianity only because that is the extent that our legal system will permit. If we didn't have our current legal system, Christians would deal with homosexuals as prescribed by their interpretation of Leviticus. Don't kid yourself.
@ChrisOrDavid That's why I think fighting for gay marriage is smart from a tactical standpoint even if one has no interest in getting married. Conservatives always say they have nothing against gays they just don't want the definition of marriage changed. But if gays dropped the marriage equality fight the conservatives would start working backwards from re-instituting DADT, "sodomy laws," all the way back to raiding gay bars. Keep 'em busy on the marriage front.
Of COURSE you can control your behavior. DUH. But Chambers never stopped to consider that expecting gays to "behave" like straights would be no different than expecting straights to behave like gays. Its called "living a lie"
It is 2012--- why are we still even having this conversation?!

David, anti-gay therapies don't do harm to 'patients' as gay people do not suffer from any illness.

I think muslims believe that people cannot help being gay, but the actual sin is acting on it.

The ex-gay muslim movement involves a lot of stones and rope. Unlike the other groups they unfortunately have a pretty good success rate.
