  • my only problem is the center bolts around the center of the carb.

    They're are a bitch.

  • @3rdgenjunkie Yeah, sometimes you gotta either get an angle attachment for your torque wrench, or use a box wrench

  • I love Alice in Chains' Dirt album. it might be my alltime favorite.

  • @SexyBaconTV Hellyeah!

  • what is the manual you were using called?

  • @kizzle1234656 It's the Haynes engine overhaul manual.

  • will that proses work with a 4.3l ?

  • @clowns76 It should, If it's around the same time oeriod.

  • @clowns76 Yup. It should. There might be a couple differences like hose and bolt hole locations, but it's all the same concept.

  • is that a 5.3l or 5.7l v8 ?

  • @clowns76 It's a 5.7 V8 (350ci)

  • Hey, what brand of gaskets did you use for that? and would they work with a Edelbrock high rise intake? That's what I have, and great video btw.

  • @DingDangg Thanks, Man. I used Fel-Pro. They will work. The mating surfaces need to be the same so that all the ports line up, therefore the gaskets will be the same size.

  • @DingDangg I've read that original cast iron SBC intake gaskets are pretty much use what you got, or can find, but for ALUMINUM intake manifolds they may require a different gasket brand, as some brands do not compress well with aluminum manifolds. So I've read. Good luck......

  • Will permatex "Ultra grey" work.?

  • @Kingsevends Never tried it, but it should.

  • @MowinManic Yo! I used that stuff cause I was havin problems with the flex and the rubber pieces that came with the gasket. The stuff I used was so that I could toss the rubber things and just use gasket maker instead.

It could be the rubber mounts if you had em, or the matin surfaces had oil on em, or it got too hot. Try the gasket maker and let it cure overnight. Worked for me.

  • those rubber intake seals cannot affect the idle whatsoever. they seal oil in and that's it. if they're bad, they allow oil to leak out, nothing more.

  • @schrankm Nice. Yeah, didn't make sense to me, but I heard it from a guy who should've known what he was talkin about.

  • Is that red stuff eat-a-bul I hungry.... Nice headers, tho if youd have pipes ud at least have a better intake then factory. But these machines are your own dreams so who am I to judge.

  • @blindasbat509 Yeah, not really worth doin without a cam. Had a 2bbl setup on this one, not lookin to spend a bunch.

  • nice 73' el camino, i have a 74 myself

  • @TWBouska Awesome.

  • fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got Layne Staley blasting in the back round ... Layne forever

  • sometimes i watch this vid again just to jam to AIC!!!

  • @IntimidatorZC AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! WWOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Hey man just wanted to say thanks for the video it was helpful when I changed my intake manifold out.....keep em coming man

  • @boxboy50 Awesome! Glad to help!

  • dimebag darrel in the back for the fucking win

  • @sanitarium691 Getcha Pull!

  • Made the mistake of using the black rubber pieces the first time:,(yup, just trash them!

  • @dangerdean28 Fuckin A, I done it on a targetmaster 350 before. They machines holes in the block for the keepers on the rubber gaskets. Not, so on this block.

  • Hey, I got a 4.3 in my 81 Monte and I got he sane problem, gotta remove the intake and replace the gasket. The problem I'm having is I'm not sure what removing the distributor will do, will it fuck anything up? Do I have to do it a certain way?

    Thanks!

  • @snowmangaggift Yeah, you gotta have it at tdc. This is the compression stroke for cylinder #1. (Driver side/front) Then the rotor under your dist. cap should be pointin at the terminal for spark plug wire one. You just gotta remember where your rotor is pointing. Mine pointed at the mount that you lift the engine from. That way I knew where to have it pointing when I re installed it.

  • @snowmangaggift (Was signed into other channel, but it's me)

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy oh ok, so basicly just return the rotor to the same position it was in b4 i touched it and ill be good to go?

  • @snowmangaggift Yup. Hahha Guess it's simpler than I said it hahhahaha It helps to number your wires with tape too.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy haha good to know, thanks for the help brother!

    take er easy

  • @snowmangaggift Fuckin A. No worries.

  • alice in chains hell yeah

  • @IntimidatorZC Fuckin A.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy Alice in chains and Soundgarden are two fuckin great bands to listen to while workin on the trucks! My gasket came in with a cork gasket for both the front and rear of the lifter valley. Do ya think its a bad idea to use that and some permatex?

  • @gmcbigrig79 Totally! Yeah, they'll be good in there. There's not too much pressure on that seal. It's mainly the ports between the heads and intake that are Really important. The If you can get em to stay in place then sure, use em, if not, fuck em.

  • how do u have a v8 at tdc like dos the #1 have to be at tdc or what

  • @iamwolfie1 Yup you gotta get cyl 1 at tdc. That's the one on the drivers side close to the front bumper. I got a whistle and stuck it in the spark plug hole. Then turn your crank til it stops whistling. It's a 5/8ths socket.

  • just finished up a 454 and nice music, dont see alot of grunge music about now a days

  • @12345zxcvbnmasdfghjk Yayah! What was it in?

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy i couldnt tell you, my friend got it awhile back and it was just sitting in his garage up until recently but its planned for it to be going into either a 70 chevy truck or 67 chevelle

  • @12345zxcvbnmasdfghjk Nice. Throw that bad boy in the Chevelle. You'll beat everyone to the gas station! haha

  • good video man. nice to see someone with common sense and a great car on here.

  • @YorkCityRacing Thanks Yo!

  • the little gasket are all shit..the factory service books tell you to discard them and use the rtv in there place

  • @heavy71chevy Fuckin A

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy i was told to use 2 different types of gasket sealer (since rtv cant be used around the intake) and cover the intake side of the gaskets. but ive seen a lot of videos like yours where people just put sealer around water ports and put it on. did this work fine for you?

  • @RicerEater1978 Yup, All good.

  • nice choice of music bro. i fuckin love Alice.

  • @mjf6866 Fuck Yeah.

  • Mine is a '66 Chev 283 or like they say now 4.6L. (yuck!) Anyways I got inspired by your video so I took the manifold in to get it glass beaded.

  • @gwyllem Fuck that shit. You're runnin a 283! Yayah! clean that shit up.

  • I like your green table.

  • @gwyllem Little table rules!

  • thanks for the video man.

i got a rochester quadra-jet and i heard it can be tuned to were it can get a gas mileage boost. r u aware of this?

  • @Dunies I'd imagine that tuning it properly and "tunin it for a mpg boost" would be the same. Everyone is after that these days. As long as you get the a/F mix close enough you'll be alright. Wicked.

  • Thanks for the vid man. I have a '72 Cutlass Supreme, and I'm getting ready to change out all the gaskets in my Rocket 350 pretty soon.

By the way, is your 2-bbl carb a Rochester?

  • @hardtackjack Awesome! Yeah, that's the crab.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy I got a new 4 barrel the other day. An Edelbrock performer 600. My 2 barrel barb is toast...even after being rebuilt twice.

  • @hardtackjack Nice. It's worth it on your ride. The Edelbrocks are nice and easy. They look good too!

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy Yeah! I can't wait to have more power (and reliability.) Right now my carb randomly takes a crap on me cause the fuel will drain out of the bowl, and it's got a vacuum leak somewhere inside. (I picked up a cast iron 4-barrel intake the other day out of a '69 Cutlass for like $80.)

  • @hardtackjack Fuckin A. Findin info about the 2bbls is a bitch anyways.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy No kidding. I paid 30 bucks for a rebuild kit that didn't work for crap.

  • Hey man i love watching your vids! There helpful since i gotta do some similar engine work on my El Camino

  • @xSiCkSxNinEx Awesome! Good luck man. Lemme know it you have any questions.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy Yea man for sure! Love El Caminos. Ill post a vid of it after i get all the engine work done! Good fun project cars!

  • @xSiCkSxNinEx Fuckin A.

  • you should hav upgraded to a barrel while you were at it haha but nice ride none the less

  • @420GETURDONE420 A 4:20 bbl? MPG yo. not racin in this thing.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy meant to say 4 barrel sry keys are sticky haha.. and its just nice to hav the lil extra power when you boot it

  • @420GETURDONE420 Totally is. I had an Edelbrock 600cfm on my 74 Nova 350.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy those are pretty good carbs.. perfect to havin a lil fun on the streets haha

  • @420GETURDONE420 Yeah, nothin major. There's no point in throwin a dominator on it without doin the rest.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy ya you wouldnt get much power out of that without doing the rest.. youd just end up flooding yer engine

  • @420GETURDONE420 Fuckin A. 1050 is it? Just drenched. Hahahaa

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy ya im pretty sure haha

  • How do know if your at top dead center?

  • @Imguystevens I got a whistle and put it in the sparkplug hole for cylinder one. I turned the crank by hand and when the whistle blew, it was on the compression stroke. When the whistle stops sounding, you're pretty much at TDC.

  • Thank you for the information on how to change intake gasket on Chevy 350.

  • @Gotchasecurity No Worries man

  • use gasket sealer on the ends ,fuck off the end gaskets...

  • @vhcommy Fuckin A ends is bitch

  • Good info, And really good music too,, Rock ON!!!

  • @Duddie82 Thanks Bro. Rock'n'Roll!!!!

  • Man, I've got to say that this video rocks! I'm prepping to do an intake/carb swap on my 1971 Nova, and being a greenhorn this'll be the first time I've done anything remotely like this, so you're videos are exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for doing this!

  • @dstrains Hellyeah man. Glad to hear it. Yeah, a video explains so much more than the shitty black and white photos in a Chiltons huh. haha If you got any questions or want a video of somethin else shoot me a comment somewhere.

  • thanks man helped me out

done it before but cool to have more info

  • @winner502 Most triumphant! Always glad to help out Duder.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy hey dude, good vid. However, I'm looking for a video showing how to change the intake manifold gasket on a 2001 nissan altima. I'm a visual learner and my nissan looks largely different than this under the hood...which is understandable. maybe you can help me find a video or a step by step process for this procedure on a nissan. and sorry if my asking offends anyone who likes pure american muscle....i've nothing against it, i just got the nissan on the low in hopes of saving onGas

  • @FromFreed0mLanD I get the gas thing man. That's what the bike's for. Kinda evens me out. Here's a thread I found for reference. Not the same year, but should be in the ballpark. The process should be almost the same with minor adjustments for placement of bolts/hoses etc. Sign up (free) and pm the admins about your question and say you don't wanna repost a question that's already been answered. Good luck mang.

  • @FromFreed0mLanD Wouldn't let me post tihe link. Messaged it to ya.

  • im changing my entire manifold from a high performance 2 barrel to a stock 4 barrel should i replace the gasket too? reason i'm chaning is my dad wants the high performance for his truck, my distributer is not fitting correctly and i can't get my hood on without taking the air filter off. so been running without hood.

  • @ccubsfan94 Yes, you need a new set of Intake gaskets. I'm assuming what's happening to your distrubutor is the oil pump slot isn't lining up. If you check the bottom of your distrib. you'll see the slot I'm talkin about. Here's what you do. Put your distrib. in. then lift it up enough to clear the teeth, and rotate it one tooth and put it in. Every six times I think it is...it'll drop in flush with the manifold. Keep turning it until it drops all the way and is facing the right way.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy thanks for the info. ill try that as soon as i can get my car in the garage

  • @ccubsfan94 Wicked dude. No worries

  • @ccubsfan94 (Part 2) Don't skip teeth. It just doesn't work that way. Takes a while and it's a pain, but that's how it's done. As for no hood. Rock it til you get a lower profile air cleaner. Unless it's raining it's fine, and actually might have some of the gains of a cold air intake.

  • hey man a fucking ass put so1mething in my ford ranger gaz tank and it mess up the fuel pump and the intake manifold gasket.ny idea yan it can be

  • @Jr72 Fuckin Weak! What a pussy, too scared to go face to face.

I would check the fuel filter. That way you can see what it is(solid) or if the fuel is discolored (liquid).

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy the fuel turne orange in my girlfriend car(metal tank) and red in mine(plastic tank) and the fucking junky is kinda scared indeed because i offer him to beat the crap out of him but after a puched him twice the baby started to cry.juste a tough guy who thing he can pissed off the reste of the world without consequences

  • @Jr72 Well fuck I've only ever heard of red off road fuel. I guess it doesn't matter what it was, the process of cleaning is the same. Gotta flush out all the gas lines, tank and oil just to be sure. Fuel filter shoulda stopped any solids from gettin through, but get some injector cleaner for your lady's car. and/or yours if it's EFI. (I'm assuming it's not if you searched this vid) Then find a way to make him pay you for parts and labor. Or just do the same amount of damage to his face.

  • @ELCHEAPOdiy HELL YEAH MAN AND BY THE WAY THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICES

  • @Jr72 No worries Bro. Don't forget to add two locking gas caps to the Total

  • the car's at a buddy place being he has better tools than i do, right now were just parting it out, good tip for labeling everything though. i'm thinking at the rate we go in between beers probably before friday it i'll get done, and hopfuly it i'll run like a bat out of hell.

  • @vega660 Wicked Sweet. Yeah, basically if you can put it back together ezactly as it was ie. hoses, bolts, carb settings, etc. you can avoid any other hangups. I usually just go around with tape and number both sides so I don't have to think too much.

  • so how long did it take you to do a head gasket job? im in the process of doing that to my motor right now, lord knows it needs it.

  • @vega660 Take em out, get em faced, magnafluxed, and get a valve job. Have your intake hot tanked. You should get your stuff back the next day and be able to have it on the next night. Assuming you label everything carefully for reassembly! Mine took a little longer cause I decided to go with new heads and higher compression.

  • does your 350 have points? being 1973

  • @vega660 Nah. It's HEI
