I just bought the Sub compact 9 MM and after 500 rounds I absolutley love this gun. I like how you have warmed to the XD compared to the first video you posted, where your Glock love was showing through (not that theres anything wrong with that!).
@mexmiler - Yes, you do. I own this gun. After you lift the slide release lever, and release the slide back to the forward position, it locks. Pull the trigger to release it to slide it all the way forward and off.
The XD receives high accolades for it's simplicity and genius in design as well as ruggedness. It's been said that it was designed by a shooter and not by some college green horn engineer. It has 4 stops as apposed to 2 in many other mfr's models to stop the slide on it's rearward motion which never contacts the slide rails on the lower recvr and the polymer is top notch and very tough. It is also easy to take down farther than what is shown here. I am proud to say I own such a quality pistol
I wanted to let you know that I have featured several of your videos on my website, ccwbystate (dot) com. You have some great videos, and I really appreciate everything you do. Be Safe.
@hickok45 ill be purchase'n a xd 40 subcompact pretty soon,i jus submitted my license to carry firearms and im desperate to know whats the best ammunition for the xd 40 sub,i watch a LOT of ur vids and they are GREATLY well done so i figg you would be the best person to ask! pease help me out! thanks
keep up the great reviews. I have a G19 and I was looking to go to a sub compact. Looking at the G26, this XD, and S & W M & P. I might try one of these Springfields. However, I always lean towards the Glock Reliability. Thanks again, TC
too small 4 me...not enough handle, i know HK can hit a bee's arse at 250 yards with it...but my lesser skills suffer greatly when i'm not able to hold the weapon in my hand. also seems to shoot a little high. if i have to fumble with something in a draw...because the handle is so small...its not going to be ideal for me.
@hickok45 Cool, Your not too far from me then. I live in Georgia. I've been up to Tennessee a few times, it's really nice up there, especially in the fall and/or spring time.
@SuperHardyfan4life Hey, sorry it took me so long to reply, i havent been checking my e-mail very much recently.. But I live in the southern part of Georgia, about 60-70 miles North of Florida. I live in a really small town called Alma, which is right next to Waycross, Ga.
I know it's a completely different caliber, but man I want to get a Ruger LCP. Only thing is it's pointless because they don't give ccw in my county and it would only be used/carried to the range.
Say, didn't the extended mag on that gun come with a grip extension as well? Do you just not use it based on the philosophy you stated before about leaving your small finger free? How do the grip extensions feel?
@AluminumStud m, Yeah, it's not a small gun anymore if I put that mag in that you mention. I'm weird, I know, but I like to keep my small guns small and my big guns big. :-)
i'm looking for the smallest gun that would still drop a full size adult, and i have been interested in the Glock 27 or the XD Subcompact. What would be your recommendation?
@comaman12345 The size of the gun doesn't matter as to the power of the bullet,... the amount of powder behind the bullet and the size of the bullet is what really determines whether o rnot it could take someone down. .40 is a fairly high velocity round for its caliber,... will definately drop a full sized adult no problem.
@Tardisius , Thanks. That's important not to mess up on. It would ruin the entire video if I were to do anything unsafe. Doesn't matter that much whether I shoot well, but any serious safety violation would kill the video,of course. Hasn't happened yet, but I could do something without thinking, mainly because the camera is running and I'm thinking about ten things at once. :-)
@hickok45 Hickok you seem like you have a good bond with Christ. That's the kind of vibe Im picking up i think i mite be right am I? cause im a follower myself =]
I think this is the gun i'd keep with me when i'm just out walking. If i'm wearing a suit, i'd always have a .44 revolver instead. don't know why, but it just seems more fitting to me.
@jsh1284 Of course it is... any of these rounds would do the job. Just remember though, shot placement is tough under extreme pressure. But really, I just threw that hypothesis out there to see what people thought. And you see my last sentence about glock 19 being the absolute best CCW gun. ...although, I do like a good .357 wheel gun too. As for 10mm, I actually like my Glock 20 the best. But that is my mountain gun, very versatile. Thanks.
@jsh1284 Ha Ha... Yea your right: 40mm... what was I thinking. As for the hypothesis, I just threw that out there to see what people thought about it. Of course, any of the weapons that we are talking about can do the job with placement and hot expanding rounds. But, one cannot argue with the fact that 15 rounds of 10mm in a glock 20 is versatile (through barriers, stop 4 legged predators, etc.) As for CCW, I like .357 wheel guns, glock 19, and soon I'll have a glock 27 too. Agreed.
I don't think that dropping your slide is bad far an automatic pistol. This is something that happens all the time when you fire it, it is natural for an automatic pistol. If dropping your slide when emty damages pistol, than shooting with live ammo, where a lot more power produced by live round moves the slide, would destroy it just after sveral rounds.
I don't think that dropping your slide is bad far an automatic pistol. This is something that happens all the time when you fire it, it is natural for an automatic pistol. Seems like you like the xd40 sub alot hickok, I'm guessing you won't be giving it up anytime soon. I don't blame you I only had my xd40 for 4 months and I just fell in love with it. It's safe to say i'll keep for as long as it works.
alright, maybe i'm mistaken. but when the mag has been emptied and the slide is locked back, pulling the slide back and letting it go (to release the slide) isn't that dropping the slide on an empty chamber? I must admit that i'm kinda new to guns and am just curious. i've heard i alot, i don't know what to believe. just a question, not saying that you do it or anything.
@rmordica , I tend to have fast hands and manipulate things rather quickly, especially if it's something that is second nature, such as a handgun. I probably SEEM to let the slide fall, but I'm actually letting it down, just maybe fairly quickly. The reason I'm pretty sure is that I kind of "cringe" when I see somebody totally drop a slide on an empty chamber, and I get the same feeling if I ever do it accidentally.
Hypothesis: A weak round (40mm) + a really short barrel = a really underpowered defensive weapon. ...compared to my Glock 29 anyway. And that little chunk is about as big as my 29 as well. Stick with Glock, nothing beats it. And I'm sure you will. Hypothesis aside, at least the 27 is small enough to carry comfortably. Probably the absolute best carry for two legged culprets is a Glock 19 with a really hot expanding round. IMHO
I agree when you say the problem with guns they always run out of bullets. Until Springfield corrects this,I will just stick with my GLOCK. I honestly believe its the hammer of Thor.
@rmordica , Don't think you see me dropping the slide on empty chambers. It's not supposed to be good for an autopistol. I let them down easily generally if there's no ammo in the gun.
if i need something smaller than a glock 19 i would go with a kahr. XD is a nice weapon, the best weapon out of croatia that i am aware of, but still number 3 or 4 on my (personal) list of preferences.
XD's are great guns ... and so are Glocks, etc ... Lots of great guns out there that have been proven ... I love how some of these repliers pretend that every gun, other than there brand of choice, is just hideous ... HAHA ... It's ok to have likes and dislikes about certain gun types, brands, etc... It's just that your opinions don't necessarily make the brand any less or more than another ... All about personal choice ... Love your videos hickok' ... keep 'em coming ...
ive never hated another gun more in my entire life than the XD. Ill take a Glock,Sig, or M&P over this piece of crap. Good review though Hickok you are the best on youtube
looks like its starting to grow on you lol :) I fully understand your thoughts on keeping with one brand etc. I know a lot of shooters like that. Personally I love guns way to much lol and in semi autos I love the XD.
They have past all the tests glocks have with no issues and they feel so good lol. I do agree the trigger needs work and I still wonder why they haven't done it yet.
The XD .40 SC just wasn't the gun for me. Shot great, except for the muzzle flip. I owned and carried it for more than two years but I was offered a trade for a SIG P228 9mm.
I shot Glock 27 a lot. After watching this video I went to my range and rented XD Subcompact .40 S&W. Bought 100 rounds.
.
Results:
Grips, super comfortable. Recoil and muzzle flip, softer then G27. Accuracy, dead center. Sights, very good. Trigger break, crisp and predictable. Concealment, excellent. Reliability, it has 30K rounds through it and it shoots fine. Safety, with grip safety it exceeds Glock's.
.
It beats Glock 27 hands down, so, I decided to trade my G27 for XD Subcompact 40 S&W.
