When I saw this in the theater when it first came out, I almost walked out in disgust at this segment. The rest of the movie was good, but this 'social comentary' against racism and stereotypes is one big stereotype, itself. "White anglo saxon protestant white guy against the world" ... he hates jews, blacks, asians, Japanese, you name it, but racists come in all flavors, not just vanilla. If the segment had shown that, it would have been good. Instead, it came off as "scolding" towards whites.
If there's any doubt about that, take a virtual stroll around the Internet and watch videos of New Black Panther members screaming "Kill cracker babies!" to a receptive black crowd,or the same black assclown blaming jews for everything. People are people, no matter the color, religion, race, etc.. Some are good, some are bad, but this Twilight Zone segment just plain sucked.
@mastercervin “this is a cautionary tale speaking out against all bigotry and hatred. They just happen to use a white guy.”
I beg to differ. The director decided to use a white male character. He didn’t “just happen” to do so. If seen this cliché’ before in TV, movies, etc. All white men are closet klansmen, while all black men are pimps, or street thugs. I say: enough with all the stupid stereotypes, even if they are stereotypes about stereotypes.
@mastercervin " If they chosen a non-white actor who was racist, does it change the message?"
That will NEVER happen in Hollywood and I think that fact speaks volumes. Frankly; most everyone knows racism is bad, so why not use a different story segment to for the movie? It's all about Hollywood's preachy agenda.
@MobHeataEnt "Maybe today, but this was during the 80s, back than a racist was widely seen to be a person who's white based on passed history."
I was 21 years old, when this movie was released. I have a loooooong memory. Back then, there wasn't the seething resentment against whites that there is today. Unlike these days, there weren't many openly racist non-white comedians spewing hatred against whites. Hollywood has made its negative impact upon society. Hollywood sucks.
@RockyBalboa211 Is it a coincidence that John Landis happened to be a Jew, wth am I talking about the Jews run Hollywood, Brando said this 20 years ago.
@DarknightVader The director who forced a scene that took Vic's life along with 2 children when a helicopter fell and chopped them up. look up the footage on youtube, Twilight zone faces of death.
Okay, in the Vietnam War scene, if they american forces are trying not to alert the enemy of their presence, then why is someone blasting Jimmy Hendix Purple Haze on his radio??
vic morrow and the 2 childrens death changed Hollywood productions forever. If anything, you have to look at it as, their deaths made it better for other future actors and crew. Its a god damned shame that it had to happen like that though.
@KingCharltonHeston I feel bad for what happened to vic morrow and those 2 children killed by spielburg the way they wrote this they were running the antisemitism thing into the ground ironicly vic morrow was jewish killed by a movie industry controled by jews
@spacepatrolman Well it was actually John Landis who got them killed, not Spielberg. It was Landis's gross negligence and poor judgment in trying to shoot that scene the way he did that resulted in those deaths. And he got off scott free, the bastard.
@KingCharltonHeston Gross negligence is something in a law suit you have to do at least three things wrong like a guy got drunk stole a car crashed into somebody and killed 2 people manslaughter is in a crimminal case thats what they couldnt convict landis of vic morrow said he was crazy shooting tracers at actors instead of into the ground spielburg should have been charged with something he was the executive producer he had those children working off the books [ because they were orientals ]
@spacepatrolman Spielberg didn't hire those kids, Landis hired them behind his back. Landis showed incredibly poor judgment trying to shoot the scene the way he did with all 3 of them out in the water as a helicopter hovered above & giant explosions went off around them. A stuntman with light weight dummy models of the children should have been out in the water instead of Morrow & the kids. John Landis is a murderer, plain and simple.
@KingCharltonHeston the books written about the case implicate spielburg the parents testified that speilburg never told them that they would be working late like that
Ah well. At least the executive producer Steven Spielberg got over the bit about anti-semitism at the cost of 3 lives. At least Steven got a nice big cheque out of it, and, oh, yes, his point across. So that makes it ok. Hollywood, who can beat it. Fucking Hypocrites.
At 3:06, Vic arrives at the very place he was to die. These scenes were filmed on the evenings of the 20th and 21st of July, 1982. Vic was killed at this very location on the night of 23rd of July. This was in the Santa Clarita river, in Indian Dunes Motorcycle Park, near Saugus, California. Killed with him was 6 year old Renee Chen and 7 year old Myca Le.
This movie was a Brilliant piece of insight and work! Hats off to who ever put it together. Vic Morrow was a great actor to pull off the role as well, too bad he had to die during this movie and those lil children as well ! I strongly believe this is Natures style of teaching compassion. If we get cruel and ugly towards any fellow living souls, then eventually we get to be on the recieving end, and there is no higher teaching! Learn the easy way or take the hard road!
@71crm Bill Conner lost out on a promotion, so he rants in a bar about "hebes", "niggers" , and "gooks". So he finds himself viewed by others like him. There is no person who deserves a humbling more than my boss.
@Letterman0412 The Nazis developed Velcro 20 years before that damned Swiss impostor, didn't you know? It was while they were raising their zombie SS army.
I love this video.
It only shows how the
world really is.
Intolerance vs. tolerance.
Which side are you on.

Vic's character was supposed to see the error of his ways and redeem himself. Yet, due to John Landis.. this is what we got.

早く、人類全体のレベルが高くなり
戦争がなく、平和で
