I cannot believe that i have been lucky enough to find this here. i have been searching for years as i never knew the guys name. I only knew that Janie Frickie was the background singer. Thanks so much. What a great channel you have and i have subbed you.
I am looking for a song by Johnny Duncan called charley is my name if anybody knows where i can find it please let knowe my e mail is eyefly02@gmail.com
i would really love to listent o it again thanks and god bless
Would Janie be classified as a soprano singer? Somebody schooled in voices, please let me know. God bless! Hit #4 in Billboard, 7-17-76. God bless! RIP, Johnny.
I ove this song. When I was working in London I used to go to a pub where they had aweekly C&w night and as soon as the Dj spotted me he put on this number. What great memories.
I haven't heard this song in years. The brass section is beautiful backing up two great vocalists. A classy song. Why don't people make this knid of musc any more?
Great song...and well done by Johnny Duncun..and Janie Fricke. I love it!! It was written by the GREAT Kris Kristofferson in 1974. Just one of his many great hits. Love Kriss...and love his songs.
This song was/is part of what I consider "The Golden Era of Country Music." I was in Nashville during the late 70's and early 80's and those years are among my favorite memories. The great ones were still around in coffee shops and clubs and Music Row was alive and well. Thanks for bringing us country music from this golden era.
I'm glad you have an appreciation for the oldies, horseygirl. Thank you for your message. You're young, and you'll have the opportunity to see and hear some of the new artists who carry on the old traditional songs. You'll have good memories like I do. Here's one you might like: My 15 year old niece, Maggie Thorn, won the Midsouth Fair Talent Competition in Memphis last night, Oct 4. They tell us her winning performance will be posted on youtube very soon. Watch for MAGGIE THORN.
The youtube video from The Dixie Theater, which mentions Maggie Thorn is not Maggie's winning performance. It should state that the video is from the Midsouth Fair in Memphis. I think they'll post Maggie's "I Wanna Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart." I apologize for posting this on Johnny Duncan page. This note is in response to a message I received from horseygirl.
These two where one of the greatest duets of all country music. All the songs they sing together are great but I still think their best was "Thinkin' of a Rendezvous".
I miss the embrace of a woman, looking back, only the drunk ones wanted me. Now I have to wash my own socks and nobody to talk to,---why did women have to change?
Probably (some may say it's debatable, but...) the definitive reading of this Kristofferson classic. Note how Kris always managed to include the word "stoned" in the lyrics to his songwriting output from this period. Where did you dredge up the photo of young Johnny Duncan at :29? Looks like an aspiring rockabilly...RIP Johnny.
Wow! This sounds nuts...but my dad loves this song and it brings tears to my eyes as everytime we have a few and this comes on ...the memories always come back of him...he's still around but he does not live where i am now. Wish he was here and could here this!!! Thanks...
his best records were '77 and '78. "Johnny Duncan" and "the Best is Yet to Come" if anyone has some of the lesser knowns songs off these like Damn it All, Candy, I Watched An Angel (Going through hell), A Lifetime to Learn, etc please put em up
