I want to thank you for putting these up! They've really helped me improve coloring things in digital (mostly by showing me faster ways of doing things XD)
And of course, it's always lovely to see the masters at work. Would it be possible to see a clip of this in real time?
This is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! I love seeing how other artists work. Just out of curiosity, do you use a multiplied layer for the shading? Or do you just put the shadows onto the same layer as the colors?
I love the way you coloured Madam U ^^ In fact I quite love Madame U anyway. I have a soft spot for crotchety eccentric ladies.
Someone inthe last video said about it being too fast and you not being sure how to cut it down. Maybe next time focus it all on the drawing of one character (and I vote Madame U or Blanche ftw) and that might give you some more time :)
I was curious about how you pick your color pallet. Obviously you have some basic idea from the creatures the characters are based on, but do you mix up the colors in photoshop in a painterly style, or just pick them out from the color wheel, or do you take samples from reference pictures? I just love your color choices. It's always a very interesting look.
Actually, I do all three for picking colors! I kinda fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to coloring, so sometimes I just pick a color off the color wheel, sometimes I eyedrop photos (although not often because photos have very unsaturated palettes), and sometimes I mix them up like paint. :)
You seem to know a lot about photoshop that i'd like to know. Where did you learn how to use it?
These vids are really interesting, but most of it goes to fast to see how you actually do it. If you do another, maybe you can do just one panel, so you don't need to speed it up so much (or slow down some key things). Or maybe you can sell the original footage on DVD (just a thought).
I've been using Photoshop for years and years and years. You just have to be open to try new things and experiment and not get stubborn about changing the way you do things, hah. I know the videos move too fast, and perhaps if I do this in the future I will try to do just one panel or something, but even then it would be more than 10 minutes for each segment, so I'm not sure how to do that.
How do you create the colour swatch palette on the lower left? Being able to save that many colours would be amazing. I've been writing down the RGB numbers forever!
Creating color swatches is easy! Just select the color you want with the eyedropper, and then either click an empty space on the swatches pallet, or click "create new swatch" at the bottom of the pallet. The color you currently have selected will pop up, and you can name it, and it will stay in your pallet. Then you click on the little arrow button in the top right corner of the pallet, and click "save swatches" and then you'll always have your swatches!
Isn't that Animal Collective?

@Ravelification Unfortunately no. The real-time clip would be 4 1/2 hours long! :)
I'm glad you like it! Thanks for watching!

Wow! Thanks for posting!
I really enjoy Skin Deep, and have wondered how you color (I'm a PhotoShop newbie).
The attention to detail is great. Love the little bugbear, and the various medallions.

Hah, that's a lot like how I use photoshop!
