Sorry? Bmx is not more versatile, you have tiny wheels and one gear, the only things you can ride it on are man made.

Mtb's are a preference for jumping, bmx's cain my back and i always feel like i am going to flip over the front end as they are so tiny, mtb's feel so much more stable. Mtb doesnt make you any less smooth as such, just some trails are for bmx as they are so tight, so are tough work on mtbs.
